Market Manager

Location: Vancouver, BC

Position Type: Full-time, permanent (in-person)

Salary: $60,000-70,000 per annum

Who We Are

Be Fresh Market is a small café and grocery market stocked with fresh, high quality, local grocery and produce items. Whether it’s a local vendor that we sell, a speciality drink that we make, or a pop-up event, we are passionate about providing nourishing shopping experiences for our customers, while creating community within our neighbourhoods.

About the Role

We’re looking for two Market Managers to help launch and lead our new Be Fresh Market locations in Vancouver. The roles will oversee all aspects of opening the assigned new store, from hiring and training a new team to setting up merchandising, operations, and workflows that create an exceptional customer experience from day one.

The ideal candidates have experience leading a café, grocery market, or similar retail environment and bring a positive, energetic approach to team leadership. We’re looking for candidates who are excited to build a welcoming neighbourhood hub centered around great coffee, local groceries, and thoughtfully curated products.

What You’ll Do

· Lead the successful opening and day-to-day operations of a Be Fresh Market location, ensuring a welcoming, well-run, and community-focused customer experience.

· Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and develop a high-performing team while fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.

· Oversee all pre-opening activities, in collaboration with leadership, including store setup, merchandising, inventory, workflow development, systems implementation, and launch planning.

· Drive store performance by monitoring sales, labour, inventory, margins, and operating costs while contributing to budget planning and achieving financial goals.

· Ensure high standards of customer service by maintaining a visible presence on the sales floor and leading by example in customer interactions.

· Support the development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, and best practices to create efficient and scalable store operations.

· Partner with Company leadership and shared service teams including Marketing, Procurement and Merchandise Management, Finance, HR, and IT to align store operations with company standards and strategic priorities.

· Maintain compliance with company policies, employment standards, health and safety regulations, and other legal requirements.

· Manage employee performance, engagement, coaching, and disciplinary processes in collaboration with Company leadership and Human Resources.

· Continuously seek opportunities to improve operations, strengthen team performance, and contribute to the growth and success of the business.

What You Bring

· Minimum of three years of lead or management experience.

· Minimum of five years of experience working in retail, grocery, and/or a café.

· Experience working organic, clean food and the natural foods industry is an asset.

· High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in business, hospitality or a related field considered an asset.

· Strong leadership, team development and people management skills.

· Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of customers and team members.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Comfortable using Microsoft Office and point-of-sale (POS) systems.

· Ability to work some evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

· Positive, energetic, and community-minded approach to leadership.

· Passion for local, organic, and sustainable food, beverages, and artisanal products.
