Full job description

Prism Eye Institute (PEI) has been serving the communities of North York, Brampton, Oakville/Mississauga and surrounding areas for over 50 years.

In 2020 North Toronto Eye Care (NTEC) merged with Prism Eye Institute, to form Prism Group Holdings (Prism), the largest Ophthalmology practice in Canada.

In 2022, PEI further strengthened a partnership with Vision Group Canada (VGC) and is working to expand its footprint nationally. VGC operates over 50 clinics and 70 surgical facilities performing over 100,000 procedures annually.

PEI is an internationally renowned institute with 5 facilities and 2 surgical centres, serving over 200,000 patients and perform 10,000 surgeries each year. Prism is a centre of excellence providing a full spectrum of eye care and recognized for handling some of the most complex eye diseases in the world.

Tasks:

Greet patients upon arrival, direct them to the appropriate contact or service, and provide general information in person, by phone or by email while maintaining information security. 
Check in/check out patients efficiently and provide information regarding wait times to contribute to the overall patient experience. 
Register patients in our EMR (Oscar) and care programs, including document uploads. 
Log all patient interactions and call details in the EMR per standard operating procedures, including preparing medical records. 
Verify OHIP eligibility to ensure adequate coverage or inform patients of fees, receive payments, and issue receipts as required. 
Schedule and reschedule appointments and referrals accurately, following booking protocols as required, using our EMR system and other applicable computerized systems. 
Provide clear information on the rationale, function, and cost of insured and non-insured tests to patients as needed. 
Obtain and process information from patients required for medical services. 
Ensure that all appointments, and patient interactions are documented correctly and communicated effectively. 
Operate a telephone system or switchboard to answer, screen, and forward calls, take messages, and provide information as required. 
Respond promptly to patient and departmental inquiries via phone, email, and Oscar messages. 
Audit schedules for accuracy and track weekly metrics as required. 
Handle and receive payments, issue receipts, and manage the receipt and faxing of reports to referring offices. 
Perform other related duties and ad hoc tasks as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.
