Security & Life Safety Services
With a tenant population of 7,000, plus over 30,0000 people a day passing through our office towers and retail concourse, Security & Life Safety services is a vital component of QuadReal Properties management team. The safety and security of our tenants, visitors and guests along with the protection of our complex are the top priorities of this dedicated group. They are the first response to all emergency and criminal events which may occur at the complex. Services are provided on a 24/7/365 basis. Security & Life Safety Services work closely with city emergency services such as Toronto Police Services, Toronto Fire Services, and Toronto EMS.
Security Operations Group
Our uniformed, plain clothes patrol, and enforcement teams work out of this group.
Career opportunities exist in the following areas;
- Platoons – Comprised of four platoons working 12-hour shifts, this group responds to all calls for service and emergencies in addition to performing general patrol and enforcement duties
- Special Operations – These officers work outside of the platoon structure and are responsible for targeted enforcement and specialized emergency response
- Shipping and Receiving Officers – These officers’ control vehicular entry into the complex, are responsible for parking control, and ensure that contraband and non-authorized persons are not allowed into the complex
Position Overview
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Security & Life Safety Services, the Senior Supervisor is responsible for the day to day delivery of security services. This position also includes the responsibility and accountability for some contract staff supervision as well as quality control, professional standards, and training.
Major Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day to day tactical operations of the Security Operations Group, to include the Security Operations Centre and Shipping & Receiving.
- Make recommendations aimed at process and service delivery improvements.
- Complete semi-annual comprehensive building and process audits/inspections as well as routine follow-ups are conducted and documented, to ensure all identified items are addressed in a timely manner. Ensuring professional standards and quality control is maintained.
- Review of Incident Reports to ensure they are accurate and complete. This includes directing security personnel as to required follow-ups.
- Assist with the maintenance and/or updating of Standing Orders.
- Assist with administrative procedures, including departmental accounting and submitting reports through our insurance reporting portal.
- Implement, review, and oversee training program standards, ensuring all staff is properly trained, aligned with departmental policy and Standing Orders. Ensure all training programs, course curriculum, lesson plans, materials, testing, and evaluation forms are maintained as well as updated when necessary.
- Conduct after-action reviews after emergency situations and major incidents, and as required, to ensure responses occur consistent with our Standing Orders and Response Plans. Identify opportunities for improvement taking advantage of lessons learned and where necessary, implement training to take correct action.
- Conduct table top and simulation training exercises with all contracted security staff as frequently as possible, but at a minimum once per week.
- Conduct penetration and integrity testing, visiting the property after-hours to observe and evaluate security operations and responses, implementing corrective action where necessary.
- Working with Paragon Security Management to maintain training records of all training activity.
- Provide monthly reports to the Senior Manager and Paragon Director of Client Service on monthly training activities.
- To ensure continuous growth and improvement, provide feedback and recommendations on programs, initiatives and strategic goals related to training.
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager and Paragon to design and implement new training initiatives and programs.
- Perform administrator and/or custodian duties as required for the various systems used by the Security Operations Group to include but not limited to radio communications, incident management, patrol reporting, inspection and check reporting, dispatching, key management, and emergency notification. This will include scheduling and/or facilitating system preventative maintenance and upgrades for the radio system and key management system.
- Responsible for the direct supervision, development, evaluation, and performance management of the Security Supervisors. Responsible for assisting with the supervision, development, evaluation and performance management of the Senior Dispatcher and Security Administrator.
- Responsible for the tactical deployment of security personnel and oversight of major incidents that occur. Perform the duties of the Incident Commander in the absence of the Senior Manager.
- Ensure effective communications from the Security Operators Group to tenants, building personnel, and property management to include security leadership.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of operating and capital budgets.
- Establish and maintain excellent working relations with staff, tenants, and the property management team.
- Provide sick relief for the Security Supervisor if needed. When providing said coverage, responsible for the duties as detailed in the Security Supervisor Job Description.
- Completion of other projects and tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- If transferring from an internal position within Commerce Court Security & Life Safety Services, should be at the S4 rank or higher with Security Supervisor experience at Commerce Court an asset.
- A Certificate in Law & Security Administration, Police Foundations or the completion of other post-secondary education is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a security supervision / management capacity is an asset.
- A proven record of experience supervising security teams and/or functions.
- Previous law enforcement or high-profile security experience within a corporate organization, property management or public agency is preferred.
- Must have valid Ontario Security License
- Must be able to successfully pass criminal background check
Skills & Knowledge
- A fundamental knowledge of state of the art security technology such as alarm and access control systems, CCTV systems, communications technologies, and general MS software programs.
- Excellent personal computing skills to include all office related products and familiarity with specialized security applications.
- Working knowledge of property management operations.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with an emphasis on multi-tasking and shifting priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professional demeanor under very stressful situations.
- Ability to develop and implement training program and be an effective trainer.
- Must be self motivated and consistently show initiative.
Working Conditions
- Required to work if necessary, various rotating shifts and be available for work in a 24x7x365 environment.
- Could be exposed to hazardous situations and conditions when responding to or managing emergencies or incidents.
