Youth Trades Employment Program Manager
Location: West End Community Centre (1300 Bath Road) - STEM & Robotics Centre
Position Timeline: August 2026 - June 2027, with the possibility of extension
Hours: 30 hours/week
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, typically 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM, with occasional different and additional hours based on participant and program needs.
Rate: $28.00/hour

BGC South East has over 30 years of experience delivering programs that help children, youth, and young adults build skills, confidence, and connections within their community. Through our STEM & Robotics Centre, participants gain hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment while exploring pathways to education and careers in the trades.
Overview
The Trades Employment Youth Program Manager will play a key role in the delivery of the Trades Readiness Academy Kingston (TRAK), a paid employment and training program designed to prepare young adults for careers in the trades.TRAK is a 24-week paid employment program consisting of 12 weeks of technical and professional training at the BGC STEM & Robotics Centre, followed by 12 weeks of paid industry placements for 20 youth job seekers.
Working alongside the technical trades instructors, employer partners, and guest facilitators, the Manager will support participants through both technical and professional skills training while fostering a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment. This role combines workshop facilitation, participant mentorship, technical program support, and day-to-day program delivery.
The successful candidate will be a positive role model who demonstrates professionalism, leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to helping young adults build the skills, confidence, and workplace habits needed for long-term success in the trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, organization, and day-to-day delivery of the TRAK program.
- Lead and facilitate professional development workshops focused on topics such as workplace readiness, communication, teamwork, financial literacy, resume and interview skills, health and safety, and career planning.
- Support the delivery of hands-on technical workshops alongside trades instructors using industry-standard equipment and tools.
- Mentor participants throughout the program, encouraging engagement, accountability, attendance, and personal growth.
- Supervise participants during classroom, shop, and community-based learning activities while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.
- Assist with employer visits, guest speakers, workplace tours, and industry engagement activities.
- Monitor participant progress and provide ongoing support during employer placements.
- Ensure participant records, attendance, incident reports, and program documentation are completed accurately.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe learning spaces in accordance with BGC policies and health and safety standards.
- Implement behaviour management and conflict resolution strategies that promote respect and positive participation.
- Support communication with supervisors and other staff regarding participant progress, program delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and program evaluation activities.
- Act as a positive ambassador for BGC South East when interacting with participants, employers, partners, and the community.
Job Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in areas like Education, STEM, Employment Services, Youth Work, or a related field.
- Experience supporting youth or young adults through education, employment, training, recreation, coaching, mentoring, community programs, or workforce development.
- Experience facilitating workshops, mentoring participants, or delivering training programs.
- Experience coordinating programs, events, or community initiatives is considered an asset.
- Technical knowledge or hands-on experience is considered a strong asset.
- Standard First Aid/C.P.R. LEVEL C - certification.
- TDP (10-year booster) and MMR immunizations must be up to date.
- Criminal Reference Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check).
- Valid driver's license / reliable transportation.
