About the Engagement
Spartan is seeking experienced Build Crew Contractors to support the construction, installation, and removal of race-course obstacles and festival structures at events across Canada.
This is a project-based independent contractor opportunity, offered on an event-by-event basis. Engagements typically involve multi-day on-site assignments, often requiring extended travel periods depending on event production schedules.
Contractors collaborate with event construction teams to ensure obstacles and infrastructure are installed safely, efficiently, and according to required specifications.
Compensation & Covered Expenses
- $250 CAD per event day (flat daily contractor rate)
- Project-based compensation; no overtime premiums apply
- Paid rest breaks incorporated into the daily rate
- Travel and accommodations booked and paid for by the company, when required
- Per diem provided for meals on designated travel days
- Meals, snacks, and beverages provided on-site during event days
- Certain work-related expenses may be eligible for reimbursement in accordance with company policy
Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, remittances, and insurance, as required by law.
Scope of Services
Contractors engaged in this role may provide services including:
- Constructing and assembling race obstacles according to event specifications
- Supporting load-in and load-out phases of event production
- Loading and unloading trailers and assisting with obstacle transport
- Working around or operating heavy equipment when qualified
- Addressing construction or installation issues as they arise to maintain timelines
- Supporting the setup and dismantling of race-course and festival infrastructure
- Coordinating volunteers assigned to obstacle zones and aid stations
- Communicating updated operational or safety directives as required
- Following all applicable safety regulations and event production standards
- Performing other construction-related services associated with event operations

Contractor Qualifications
- Experience in construction, carpentry, staging, or similar hands-on production environments
- Ability to work safely in fast-paced outdoor construction settings
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities
- Basic computer literacy (email, spreadsheets, shared documents)
- Ability to read and interpret safety instructions and operational procedures
- Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record
- Experience operating heavy equipment is an asset
Project & Physical Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel for extended event assignments
- Comfortable working outdoors in varied and sometimes adverse weather conditions
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, and moving equipment and materials (up to approximately 100 lbs)
- Comfortable working at heights and using construction tools and equipment
- Ability to work long event days typical of live event production

Engagement Classification
This role is engaged as an independent contractor for short-term, event-based assignments and is compensated by a flat daily rate. There is no guarantee of ongoing work beyond scheduled event projects.
Engagements are offered on a non-exclusive, project-by-project basis. Contractors may accept or decline individual event opportunities and are free to provide services to other clients.
