Compensation: $22.00 to $29.00 per hour

Summary:
We are seeking a safety-conscious and reliable individual to join our Ottawa West team as a Special Collections Driver/Picker. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering new waste, recycle, and organic bins, as well as collecting various waste streams from residential and commercial properties, in addition to completing various other service request related items. The role involves driving a company pickup truck, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring safe and proper disposal of waste. The special collect driver/loader must have a clean driver’s abstract, follow safety policies, and adhere to municipal and environmental regulations. The position also requires lifting garbage bags or cans up to 50 lbs. and ensuring waste containers are returned correctly to the resident’s property.
Responsibilities:
In the position of Special Collections Driver/Picker, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Must adhere to Miller Waste Systems safety protocols and must be familiar with occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Responsible for the delivery of new recycle, organic and waste bins along with various waste stream commercial garbage collections.
- Responsible for the completion of assigned service requests throughout the designated region, as assigned by Miller Waste Systems Supervisors.
- Driving a company pickup truck. Applicants must have a clean driver abstract.
- Deliver reliable, high-quality customer service by ensuring the proper disposal of waste streams. This is essential for maintaining the health and well-being of the community residents you are servicing.
- Collect various waste streams to be delivered to local Transfer stations, Compost Facilities or landfill sites in an efficient and appropriate manner.
- Adhering to the collection and delivery schedule while following all relevant policies and procedures of the Company, the MTO, Ministry of Environment as well as the by-laws of the Municipality in which you are working. Failure to adhere to safety policies and procedures may lead to property damage, injury, or loss of life.
- You will be expected to engage with coworkers, management, residents, and the public courteously and respectfully always.
- Lifting garbage bags or cans that can weigh up to 50 lbs. from the ground up approximately 2 feet into a pickup truck and returning emptied waste receptacles to the resident’s property, placed upside down at the curb and positioned where they were originally located.
- Completion of other job duties and functions as assigned.
Competencies & Qualifications:
- Must have a valid G Class Driver’s Licence.
- Required to have a clean driver’s abstract, as you will be driving a company vehicle.
- Flexibility with scheduling as, some Saturday work or extended hours may be required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral, auditory and written).
- Previous industry experience is a plus.
