ACCES EMPLOYMENT

I worked at ACCES Employment for nearly a year and a half. While my experience started positively, my time at the Newmarket location was increasingly disappointing due to significant organizational issues such as no proper training for new employee., The lack of effective leadership was apparent, and, beginning in January 2025, the work environment became noticeably toxic.

Employee well-being was not a priority for leadership, who seemed focused solely on their own bonuses and benefits. This resulted in excessive pressure on staff, and over the past year, approximately 10 team members left the organization. There was a clear lack of respect for employees, and HR appeared disengaged and unaware of the challenges at the Newmarket location while everyone on the team was suffering from burn out and immense pressure!

Many promotions were given to less qualified employees, while deserving staff were overlooked, leading to feelings of discrimination and they left the organization, so you'd see so much of favoritism and unfair treatment.
The IES program, in particular, set unrealistic targets that negatively impacted mental health and morale. Overall, my experience at ACCES Employment, especially at the Newmarket site, was discouraging and ultimately unsustainable.
If you care about your mental health, stay away from this site, you'll regret it !




ACCES Employment provides a supportive environment for individuals looking to break into the Canadian workforce, particularly newcomers. However, there are significant challenges when it comes to managerial experience and growth opportunities within the organization.

The managerial structure at ACCES seems to lack depth in mentorship and strategic leadership, which can make it difficult for employees to gain valuable experience in higher-level roles. This limits the potential for career advancement, as there are few opportunities for growth or development within the company.

Additionally, while the organization provides a solid foundation for entry-level positions, the absence of clear pathways to leadership roles or skill-building programs for advancing employees' careers is a key drawback.

Overall, ACCES Employment is a great place to gain initial experience in the field, but those looking to grow and take on more significant responsibilities may find themselves at a standstill.

The problem with working at ACCES can be summed up as follows; There are lots of leaders but a lack of leadership. The leadership team squabbles with each other, is territorial and gossipy. 

This leads to nepotism, with only the most gossipy people getting promoted. Meanwhile engaged and motivated people are overlooked and become demotivated over time. 

There is also an obsession with 'time theft'. People are measured not based on their results but on the hours they spend sitting at their computers. Needless to say this also leads to turnover.

Avoid the Toronto office if you can. It is toxic.

My time at ACCES has been quite challenging. The work-life balance here is virtually non-existent, with no consideration for employees' personal lives. Micro-management is rampant, making it difficult to breathe without someone scrutinizing your every move. Upper management seems more interested in chasing funding numbers than in genuinely serving our clients' needs. The constant pressure to meet unrealistic targets has left employees drained and on the verge of burning out. It's been a tough journey, to say the least.

Create programs that drive the business. We are a not for profit and have many budget constraints to work around.  No day is really typical, I have direct reports that I provide direction to, I oversee 5 different sites.  We are constantly developing something new in terms of policy review, I work ith a board of directoras as well I am the Hr representative to our union.  My job is uniquely challenging, I really enjoy the work.

Handle busy reception desk by responding to clients inquiries and directing calls and clients to the appropriate personnel.  Assisted in drafting various legal documents.  Research documents and previous cases to create legal argument.

Working independently as well as in a team environment.

The manager I reported to gave me zero support and had very high expectations of the goals I needed to achieve. I was provided next-to-know guidance from my manager and was required to accomplish a few majour year end objectives with no support.

I was blown away by the level of poor management. I felt set up to fail.  I would highly recommend not working at this nonprofit.

This company will hire you and crush your soul ... can’t trust anyone there. Toronto SVPs walk around with fake smile and treat staff very badly... high turnaround of staff... no support for growth. For a non profit this company has the most poorest diverse staff. Highly fake in nature... management is very hypocritical and gossip and will belittle you.

I loved working there, as they all were very nice, friendly and helpful all the time. The consultants were very helpful to their clients and they were always available for new clients as well as old clients. They worked really hard to train any new employee or volunteer.

I personally had a blast working here. It was hard work but you always felt supported and like everyone was working to ensure clients and the program remained premiere while keeping a fun and supportive culture. In is evident in the retention of staff as well. Some folx have been there for years!
