I regret why I applied for this company.  I was called for an interview couple of weeks ago and I was hired instantly but never I was asked about my extensive experience and my background. I was given job offer for $13.75 with no medical or dental benefits, No vacation, no sick days, No WSIB or CPP or EI

I suggest that applicants just go try applying other companies like St. Elizabeth or PT Health or Hospitals as they offer sick days, vacation, medical & dental after few months. Going for an interview was surely waste of time.  I just thought that things change after so many years that they will pay competitively, Unfortunately they are still out there to abuse people looking for job. They are abusive and do not care. they even ask you to pay a $1,000 as a bond for 1 year that if you leave before 1 year, you have to pay this back to the PT. Who would even come up with this? People who will apply for this job are people from foreign country who just came to Canada who doesn't have an idea what is employment all about and the proper way to get paid. The bad part is, they don't file taxes from you. You have to file your own taxes are they will not take you as their 'employee" for them to get away from giving you benefits, you have to be considered as SELF EMPLOYED or CONTRACTOR. then this way they do not have responsibility to you and you will not have any benefits and file your own taxes with CRA.

My biggest problem with Achieva Health was the absolutely insulting and disgraceful salary! Employees are trapped working exhausting hours, carrying crushing workloads, scrambling to meet impossible deadlines, and dealing with ridiculous demands every single day, yet the pay is nowhere close to what any of that deserves. The benefits were also completely awful and practically worthless. Besides the miserable pay, employees never received real opportunities to advance or any chance to grow. It did not matter how long you stayed with the company or how hard you worked from the moment you started; your effort was always ignored and completely unrewarded by management, because all management cares about is itself!

HIGH TURNOVER RATE! Company has zero knowledge about the role of an OTA and/or PTA. Owner and management do not respect the assistants, they only care about the therapists. Assistants are being paid minimum wage, workers at Macdonalds make more. Management have no idea how overworked the assistants are, because they just dont care and they are never there.
If you are an immigrant that is DESPERATE for a "job", they will hire you. Companies need to stop doing business with Achieva. It is actually DISGUSTING that companies like this exist.
Assistants make no more than $14/hr (thats ONLY because the minimum wage increased). Thinking about a raise after working with them for a year or more? Thats never going to happen. They would fire you before they give you a raise.
They expect you to act as if you are working with a reputable company with that HORRIBLE pay and they expect you to work hard for minimum.The assistants actually work way harder than the therapists, the therapists rely so much on the assistants. Cheap labour.

I was hired via skype 2 months ago as a physiotherapist assistant and that was the only contact i had with anyone from the company up until 2 weeks ago after 20+ emails to them from superiors in the homes i worked in and myself. I was told by the training  lady that i was to not be friends with the homes staff and that the treatment i was receiving from home staff was "nothing" and i was to just "ignore being bullied" I found out that they are replacing me by posting my job vacancy via the internet, when i confronted them with the proof of the posted ad for my position i was then ignored. The pay for the work is horrible, they do not provide pay stubs and they fail to tell you that you have to pay your own taxes as they do not take any off, so  you are self employed.....if you lack morals and ethics then this company is for you, if you have a back bone and stand up for yourself and those around you then RUN

The work pace is usually high. After a few weeks of adjustment period, you get used to it. Things became ridiculous when the work expectations kept on rising, and our staffing numbers didn't increase. 

The leadership was well aware of the challenges we faced due to short staffing, but avoided taking any substantial steps. Their poor attitude meant we were all stressed and exhausted most of the time, and we looked forward to quitting the company and getting out of this awful chaos. 

Another thing I disliked was the terrible documentation requirements. Employees had to work brutal hours and then take care of paperwork afterwards. It was ridiculous. It led to the worst work-life balance, too much pressure, and zero mental peace. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very flexible if scheduling absences etc with notice

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
DIY time sheets. Little hands-on supervision. Large caseloads with tight windows to meet all clients in each floor/wing/department.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Many foreign trained professionals supporting each other. Much collaboration and teamwork.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Regular rounds of residents to see and check-up/exercise/walk. Requires a little planning for cases needing 2:1 but soon after it becomes a regular routine. End of day devotes around one hour for paperwork/reports back to supervising therapist re: changes or reassessments.

I started this position thinking I could separate my work from my personal life, but that became clear very quickly. The expectation was always there to respond to messages at night, on days off, whenever something came up, and there was always something coming up. I spent my evenings checking my phone constantly, my weekends disrupted, and honestly it became hard to remember when I was actually off the clock anymore. Nobody said directly that you had to be available 24/7 but the culture made it obvious if you were not responding fast enough then you were  committed. and I got tired of that message. After months of this constant pressure I realized I was  never actually resting, never actually disconnecting, and that just was not sustainable. I had to leave.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working since 2012. Almost 12 years . Management treats with respect and respond immediately whenever we need help or directions 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Never feel stress at work . Have to work what we committed. Often they give flexibility in case of taking leave . 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Best company . I moved one time out of province and get back to Ontario and joined the same company. Very supportive team. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
8am to 6pm . Most of the day Monday to Friday . Day starts with morning rounds with work site management team, followed by conducting gym with residents and walking, take care of referrals and talking to residents family for any concerns .

I would not recommend working for this company. They do not offer any type of sick pay- even though you’re in an environment that has constant Illness. If you get COVID, they Make you return your paycheck. They tell you, hours are very flexible as long as you work 35 hrs, then months later say no no we want you working 9-5 every day, no more no less and there is NO opportunity for a raise in the future. They do not respect their employees what so ever. They do not tell you, nor is it stated in their contract that you have to be an employee for 1 year before you are entitled to vacation pay. 
Promise you room to grow in the company and then take it back. 

Achieva does not support their employees and they abandon you when you need their support. 
Do not ever work for this company. I promise you’ll regret it.

I was hired fairly quickly with not much information about the job, was kind of thrown into the position which is fine if you're a quick learner. Typical days are long and boring, definitely not a job that needs to be full time, or if they would like more residents on program they should be willing to hire another PTA for more assist x2 walks with maybe even cutting down to two part-time. Physiotherapist isn't around many days and also there is no management. The home doesn't see you as one of their employees so you are basically ignored because you don't work for them. The pay is almost offensive for someone who has had 2 years of schooling to be a PTA. Great job if you like to keep to yourself and make minimum wage.
