AGA KHAN MUSEUM

Upper management was incredibly toxic and played favourites amongst staff. Some would get promotions or invites to apply to openings and others would be kept in the dark. You would be assigned tasks and then the manager would come and yell at you for not doing something else, even though they personally asked you to do said task. HR would hire and fire on will. People with expired contracts would not know whether to show up to work or not because HR didn't contact them to renew or end the employment agreement. There is an incredibly high turnover rate for employees because management treats people like they are expendable despite the hard work and effort they have put in. Staff have no value to the AKM.

Colleagues are wonderful and helpful while the museum is a beautiful and creative space to work in. The hours are flexible so it's convenient when you're in school or work multiple jobs. It's really a shame, as many of the reviews indicate there is a high turnover rate while upper management and HR are very secretive, disorganized and seldom communicate. Frontline staff are treated like they're disposable and employee feedback is oftentimes dismissed and not taken into consideration in decision making. While the job pays a little more than the average box office, they add and change the role on a whim with no pay compensation, job security and proper training.

Its a beautiful museum and many of the staff are amazing to work with. However I cannot give them more praise then that because management and HR are incredibly secretive and never communicate anything. They would change vital things about your role and you might never find out until you show up the day of and have to deal with it. The don't include employee feedback in their decisions. Many positions remain unfilled and turn over is pretty high. Most people are on contracts which probably means no benefits and low pay. There is no job security for the vast majority of people and sadly the people who seem secure in their jobs are incompetent managers.

The museum is just a few years old and could use a regime change in management and human resources for things to improve. They are secretive and don't communicate well. Colleagues work hard and are great and supportive and happy to share their knowledge across departments. It is a stressful environment and many people leave and positions are never filled. Lots of people are on contract and not treated well. It's too bad because the building is beautiful and has a lot of potential. And the mandate to educate is good too.

Aga Khan Museum is one of the finest museums in Toronto. Every single day is amazing for me, as I can interact with new tourist. It's been a pleasure to help/guide tourist. The management in the museum is one of the best I ever found. Sometimes it becomes hard to control the large amount to tourist, but with the patience and friendly with them helps a lot to maintain/ organize the rush of tourist.

the working environment had great teams with amazing talents. Sometimes the lack of communication between client expectations to management to the skilled labour was broken during the chain of dissemination but overall the experience left me with a great oppertunity to use my skill sets in a cultural environment outside of standard north american practises.

There were long days but you got a lunch break, Learning to prepare middle eastern marinades was my favourite part of the job. Working with world renowned Chefs as they prepared for functions, and alongside priceless works of art in the dining room. It was stunning. Being able to peruse the gallery before work.

Volunteered at this museum for several years with the hope to eventually get a job offered to me. However, after years of work put into volunteering I wasn't offered even the opportunity to apply nor got any support internally. However, it is a great place to volunteer at and I did love every bit of it until I really needed a job. So don't waste your time volunteering there for a job there in the future

The adjoining Aga Khan Park is very peaceful and beautiful

The Aga Khan Museum offers visitors a window into the artistic, intellectual, and scientific heritage of Muslim civilizations across the centuries. It is a wonderful place to work. But right now, I am volunteering there.It is not a paid job but I enjoy this collaboration as a volunteer as well.
