Shifts would be 12 hour shifts, 4 days on and 4 days off and 2 of those shifts would be days and the other 2 would be nights. This type of scheduled was tough on you but it was always nice to have 4 days off. 

Shifts would always be different, one shift you might be driving around in the patrol car and be doing parking enforcement and handing out parking tickets, then the next shift you will be responding to a call of someone over dosing and you have to provide first aid. The main major issues that you will be dealing with has to do with intoxicated students. My co-workers on my platoon were amazing and I would trust my life with them, working along side local police, fire, and EMS was great as well. The main issue I had with the job was the pay was fairly low for what we were expect to deal with.

I worked with two professors for two years while attending Acadia University. I did not have set work hours, so I was able to work when I wanted. This flexibility allowed me to balance my school work and other commitments very easily. When I was working, I was doing such tasks as research, organization, communication with other institutions, marking tests, publicity for the Acadia Theatre Company, and show research for upcoming productions.

Both of these professors were easy to work with and cared about furthering my education rather than just have me sort through large amounts of tedious paperwork.

I worked alone most of the time but often had other people come in to help, especially with publicity for shows.

This job easily fit into my university life. I was able to come and go as I pleased as long as I finished the work. The workload was not tremendous but was often challenging.

Since it was a part time job that I did while I was in school, one could chose the shifts, according to their studying schedule. The shifts lasted from 2 to 7 hours.
Employees were required to patrol the premises as a team, and constantly communicate with one another. My team members were easy to work with, even if we did not agree on issues, we were extremely amicable with one another.
The hardest part of the job, was standing for long hours, or being presented with an incident, where the police had to be contacted.
The most enjoyable part of the job, was feeling fulfilled, knowing that you are working hard to keep the school safe.

You were a regular student who also had the responsibility of  taking care of other students. Your door was open so residents could come and talk to you about anything and you had a team to back you up if you had to write people up or create a punishment. You were never alone and anything could happen. Covered my room and half of the food costs so it was a great way to make going to school away from home great and doable.

Course load is unmanageable for faculty members also tasked with research - the vision is very college like with those who want to also do research set up for failure. Leadership at the department level is very inconsistent and reflects the  insularity and lack of outward or creative thinking University's are in need of at the moment.

A typical day at work: 
● teach local residents, small children, and who will be interested to learn Mandarin in small classes
●  usually 2 hours before dinner

● how to teach different people at different ages

Hardest part of the job:
● how to make people be easy to understand Mandarin and pronounce it correctly
Most enjoyable part of the job:
● Sometimes teaching and learning by games

Management is stunned and focused on their own entitlement.  Workers keep doing same old, discouraged from finding solutions.  Things that should be automated are done manually. 
 Compensation is bottom of the barrel.  Benefits are okay and pension plan with employee contribution is included.

Acadia university is a wonderful place to work with excellent colleagues and leadership. If you have the opportunity to apply for work there and to be offered employment - take it. Wolfville is beautiful and the life-style of Nova Scotia is fabulous.

Volunteering for House Council has been very good. I help create and make events/fundraisers happen. The president of House council is excellent at communicating and being a well-rounded person. I really enjoy being creative when it comes to planning. I also like being involved in making a community for my residence building.

working with the greeness of students and watching them sprout into full-blown blossoms, after gaining work experience in the 'real' world while completing a degree, was a most fulfilling, worthwhile experience.......i had free-reign and appreciated the confidence my superiors had in me to 'run' my own show.......
