While I am freshly employed at Aird & Berlis, I have had nothing but an incredibly positive experience thus far. The interview process was very straightforward and felt like a very welcoming environment. The HR representative that I communicated most with was friendly, knowledgeable, and truly had my best interests in mind (it felt like he really was on my "team"). The training and on-boarding processes were also great! Extremely organized and comprehensive; led by two IT staff with awesome personalities who were excited to have me on the A&B team and offered their unconditional help. The department I currently work in consists of a relatively 'small' but very close-knit team: characteristics I greatly appreciate. Both of my supervisors are exceptionally knowledgeable (not only as it relates to the company and its work, but also general trivia!), approachable, and have great personalities! Communication is big at A&B and I am encouraged to ask questions and constantly interact with and learn from others. While A&B is a relatively large law firm with hundreds of employees--qualities that might seem intimidating to a new hire like myself--I have felt very comfortable and have been welcomed with open arms. I am very fortunate to be a part of the A&B team and I highly encourage applicants to consider A&B as their next work 'home!'

My experience at Aird & Berlis has been wonderful. I had one of the best interview experiences I’ve ever had with both HR and the managers of my department. They not only went in depth about the company, culture and the work I would be doing, but also made sure to accommodate all of my needs. I’ve never felt so comfortable sitting an interview! 

As for the team I work on, everyone is extremely supportive and communicative. My onboarding was thorough, but relaxed. Although my team is hybrid-remote, it still feels as connected and collaborative as it would on-site. My managers and colleagues are always keeping me in the loop on their projects so that I have a well-rounded view of our team’s work, and they always provide in-depth feedback on my own work so that I can continue to grow. 

My experience with HR has been excellent and they have been keeping in touch throughout my short time here to make sure I’m settling in well. I am so thankful to have so much support!

Overall, though I’m quite junior in my role, my experience has been incredibly positive and I’m so thankful to have been able to join such a fantastic team! 

I very much enjoyed the quick walks to Union Station.  Unfortunately, management if not too accommodating or compassionate to new mothers/mothers with young children.  A lot of the lawyers feel that they are above you. Out of the three firms I worked at, this one by far had the most arrogant lawyers.  Salary was not great considering they are a Bay Street law firm.  I enjoyed the wonderful and friendly kitchen staff, mailroom/copy staff and IT department.  The learning curve is very restricted unless you work for an amazing boss.  There are 20+ job posting presently which truly is scary when most of them are replacements.  Worth the interview, but keep these things in mind.  Good luck! :o)

If you're looking for a human resources support in a time of need this is not a good firm for you. Any type of advancement involves mainly salary the lower of the salary get the position. Salary is low compared to other downtown firms .  They do not give out bonuses throughout the year like others  just a minimum raise in January. Staff is friendly and what keeps you going. My suggestion is to shop around other firms and compare  mainly  the money factor  as that's what families in this generation  need to look for in employment  along with fair HR Department and fair management. Good luck with what you choose.

I really enjoyed my time working at Aird. The assistants and staff are very supportive and friendly, making it easy to get settled and figure things out. Although the starting salary was low, they raised this by a large amount after just a few years. The even added family benefits into their plan. Despite some of the other reviews, I never had an issue with management, the HR team and managing partner are very involved and visible in the firm and planning events/initiatives. Lots of events throughout the year for staff (and not just lawyers).

I started working at Aird in Jan 2019. The hiring process did take some time but there has been an overall growth in my department since coming here.  Since I have been here Aird has expanded and bought space on the 28th floor for the growing IP team. I'm enjoying being here, and the people are amazing. Its nice to be in a firm of 450+ people within the same, one location. We have onsite yoga and pilates, full coverage, $1000 a year to spend on things like massage therapy etc. IMO It is a downtown firm with a family like feel.

I worked for a very busy corporate/securities lawyer. My typical day would start with a daily meeting with the lawyer compiling in priority all the work that I would need to do for the day. There was a lot of pressure in this position as time was always of he essence and deadlines needed to be met. If a deal was closing and it required staying late to get the job done, I did so. It was a very fast paced environment and exciting. I really enjoyed working with the entire team.

Excellent place to work. People are very supportive and set you up for success. Salary and Benefits are competitive. Good opportunities for growth and development.
Many firm wide events to support diversity and inclusion.
Work and projects done by the firm provides a challenge which makes it very interesting and exciting every day.
I am glad to be part of this reputable firm.

HR is not there for you no matter what they say. Lots of control about hours and lunch breaks.  I was forced to take a vacation day for the death of my husband's (of 20 years) uncle funeral after being with the company for 20 years. Most lawyers were arrogant towards staff and fought with their own collegues over files. Staff was great. Union station being close is great. The building is beautiful. Raises and salaries are low.  Keep shopping.

HR department is not loyal.  Low salary.  Advancement internally based on how much money they can save. All other excuses they give are to make you happy.  Seniority means nothing to them. Mental health is high and turnover in the last three years is high.  Suggestion...keep looking.  Staff will be the only reason you end up staying.  Good luck. Hope Ove helped.
