A typical day at Artistic Stairs was quite busy. There was always something needing to be done or corrected in one way or another, my department specifically appeared to be hectic most times. When I was first hired on; the management warned me that it would be hectic as they were in the process of changing things around, therefore I was expecting it to be this way and was not bothered by it. Even though it was always busy, everyone always seemed to have a smile on their face and were always willing to help out. Even on the worst days, everyone seemed to be able to stick to working together and handled situations well. I found the management to be helpful and friendly. (Almost) Monthly safety lunches were provided as well as lunches and coffee for inventory days. The company provided some decent opportunities such as schooling through SAIT for Carpentry and paying for courses such as first aid. Unfortunately in the year I worked there, even though I asked often about these courses and opportunities and was promised them, it never happened. So the opportunities are great- if you can actually get them.

TL;DR: Friendly management, friendly workers, free safety & inventory lunches, positive environment.

Speaking only as a railing installer: Artistic is a generous company who treats you like a person, not a number. They care about quality and when the economy is good you cant work fast enough. Last recession they kept me busy enough not to notice a recession at all. Alas this last one was a kick in the pants and I had to get laid off. The product ordering and stocking and stocking is a bit to be desired, a better system could be designed and better managed. The pay structure is competitive. Don't let people tell you they're cheap. they're not, they're on par with a good wage and if you bust your butt you get more to boot. You get what you put into it.

Typical day: Pick up paperwork, Load material for Job in Company van, drive out to jobsite, unload material and tools. Build the railing system, sand it well and have everything paint and stain ready. Hand paperwork in. Do it again. Same pattern everyday for very small jobs, every week or two for big ones.

I worked for Artistic for over two years. Started off great but after a year and a half things started going down hill and fast. Lay offs for almost all the office staff except for managers, no chance of a raise because the ‘company wasn’t making enough money’ and pray you didn’t have your own opinion or else you were laid off. Managers are paid way too much to bully staff and be-little them, don’t be fooled by their ‘come to me anytime if you need’ because when you try you’re made to feel like you’re bothering them. You will be over worked without compensation and expected to get a unreasonable amount of work done and even if you tell them you need help, you will just be laid off instead. Artistic stairs tells you how much of a Team they are when in reality they are a group of bullies who get paid to stomp all over all the employees.

Do yourself a favour and just don’t.

This place has been great for me. There are many opportunities to grow and branch out if you seek them. Since I've been here I've achieved my NCSO in the safety field, became a forklift/equipment trainer and accumulated almost every safety ticket you can acquire. I've also hugely improved on my carpentry and on-site skills. Management has always been there to offer guidance and their years of experience. The projects can get quite intricate, but are satisfying at the same time to complete and every day is different. It can be physically demanding at times but that comes with any job in the wood/metal industry. Great work culture/management too - I've made lots of friends and always felt supported working here. Highly recommended.

The workday is intense, large volume of work for almost all positions within the company.
You will be pushed to grow in all the right ways. Not afraid to challenge yourself to be a better you? The management and staff are there to support your career growth and professional growth.
My skills and experience were definitely used and expanded on.
The team was amazing to work with. Each one of my colleagues worked hard and never compromised quality.

Artistic Stairs is one of the best workplaces for individuals of any experience level.  There are positions for people with little to no experience, people with vast experience, and everyone in between.  Support and encouragement for apprentices in Carpentry was a big plus.  Motivated workers can expect to be recognized and have opportunities presented to them for additional training, especially in the carpentry and safety aspects of the job.  I began as a general laborer, and left as a red seal journeyman carpenter with NCSO certification.

Learned a lot as a railing installer. Trained for two months, before being moved on to simple work. Management was garbage and no one knows what is going on. Never know what time you get home at night. Not at all recommended for people that are just starting out in construction. Was not willing to work with or provide a chance to fix or explain mistakes. Will dump you before your benefits kick in if you aren't learning fast enough or your work is not very good quality.  Quasi-decent salary if you could keep up with the piece work and do a decent job.  Great comradery between installers and shop workers.

All team players were able to effectively communicate with one another by having a daily morning staff meeting.  There was a strong emphasis on cross training, so if someone was absent there would always be another that could step in and do their job, meaning work never "piled up" for any individual.  Company met or exceeded expected timelines for the most part.  Staff was always friendly and helpful.  Duties never became boring as no matter what your position, there was continues learning with many tasks that presented great challenges.  It was a real pleasure to work there.

I was responsible for overseeing all of the orders that went out and ordering anything we didn't have in stock for the job. I also was backup reception in the morning before the receptionist showed up and during her breaks. The receptionist wasn't reliable and was always late, calling sick or took longer breaks that allowed. I loved the responsibility and challenge of my job and knowing that without me our installers could potentially get to a site without all the product they needed to complete the job.

Artistic Stairs was a very interesting company to work for. They believe in cross training their employees. Working hard and having fun are usually put in the same sentence.
Artistic Stairs believes that if a client is not 100% satisfied they are not either and will make sure the make it so.
I made sure that inventory coming in and going out was monitored correctly. Service techs were paid correctly, and making sure new and returning clients were directed to the correct departments.
I really enjoyed learning about what goes into building a safe staircase.
