I have been with the company since 2004 and while I have always enjoyed working here there are recent changes that have led to a much improved workplace culture.  Management engages with staff at all levels.  My work involves being in the office for writing reports and meetings but the most enjoyable part is connecting with families and community partners which we do at the Centre, in families' homes and in other community settings.  There is a lot of satisfaction in the connections that we make with the families we serve.

The hardest part of the job is the waitlists.  Unfortunately, due to lack of government funding to keep up with an increase in the number of families that need to be served, families are having to wait longer for the services we can offer.  This, combined with staffing shortages puts pressure on everyone.  Supervisors are understanding and realistic in what staff can reasonably carry for a workload, but as a caring profession it is still hard when we aren't able to see everyone as quickly as we would like.  We constantly are trying to find ways to help more families sooner.

Overall I am happy with where I work and I would recommend it to a friend.

I've worked at BCCFA for 5 years and have witnessed some incredibly positive changes in the workplace culture with a recent changeover in leadership at multiple levels. I can now say that I absolutely love my job and working for this organization. There has been increasing flexibility around how, when, and where work gets done, which supports my work-life balance and quality of life. The work is meaningful, impactful, and challenging. And having wonderful supportive, passionate, and collaborative colleagues makes it do-able. And of course, the best part of the job is getting to work alongside and learn from incredible families who are learning what it means to care for a child/youth with a disability. 
There are increasingly more and more opportunities being offered for staff to be involved on committees and projects based on their own passions.
I would say the biggest challenge is common to most social service/healthcare sites - caseload management, lengthy waitlists, not enough staff to provide the level of service we'd like.

Admin staff are leaving due to poor management and continued changes to work flexibility with no reasoning or explanations. Communication with leadership is poor. This is a very corporate environment without the perks of working in the corporate world. Autonomy is low. This place has the potential to be great but there is a serious lack of consistency and policies are unclear across the board. Leaders lack basic communication skills and overload staff members with unreasonable workloads and unreasonable expectations. Team members are caring and welcoming but with the recent changes it is very concerning on where things are headed. It takes months to find new hires and they typically end up moving to other departments pretty quickly.

I have been working at the BC CFA for over four years now as a speech language pathologist. In that time I have seen so many positive changes and a true desire by our executive director and leadership team to evoke a climate where staff feel valued and supported. There is a strong focus on improving our mental health, our cultural awareness, and our engagement with the company over the last few years. The salary is on par with what is offered in healthcare for SLPs but could use a boost :) There are lots of opportunities for professional development and leadership encourage staff to take the time to be informed on evidence based practices. The only thing I would change about the organization is the need for more part-time positions to encourage an excellent work-life balance.

Flexible, collaborative workplace with excellent benefits. Opportunities to learn, grow and engage across departments through training and internal committees. Organization honour's and celebrates inclusion, diversity and embraces collaboration internally amongst staff as well as externally with partners such as child care programs, Indigenous leaders, CanChild and many others.  Strong focus on community inclusion, family centered practice and being innovative and technology forward which is rare in non profit. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to work with a great staff team and the clients in the community child care programs, support their inclusion and community engagement. 
Challenges - reliant on government funding and a large community need

Not the best
	Conduct intake and psycho-social assessments in order to determine employment needs
	Provide community support through referrals to agencies in order to assist with improving standard of life for these clients
	Conduct continued and referral to resources within the community as the needs arise 
	Support clients with application for funding for sponsored training based on clients’ eligibility and needs
	Coach clients to enable positive movement along the employment continuum 
	Recruiting outside agencies to provide supplementary training for clients
	Liaise with provincial and federal funders in order to acquire information

This was the worst place I have ever worked in my career.  There was a the most bizarre culture of bullying and blame for the most minor misteps and I'm not talking about accounting mistakes, but just little things like being honest in an email or using two different fonts in a report (The report was made from a template, so the template actually contained two different fonts).  People were blamed a lot for things that were not really their fault and rudely reprimanded and made to feel stupid. The financial director had the most volatile temper and atrocious people skills.  I would not recommend working here.

A great company to work for with good benefits and pension plan.  The pay could be higher based on the degree levels of the therapists, but is standardized with the HSA union across the province. The atmosphere is improving to have more open and honest communication with a new and amazing Executive Director.  

Work load is stressful but manageable.  New directors are also working to improve this overall.

The most enjoyable part of the job is making a difference in children's lives every day and being a part of a great team!

Have been here just over a year, workplace culture is amazingly supportive. I am very happy with the leadership and feel comfortable talking to them. The team is so great and there is a really nice vibe to the work environment. The work-life balance is incomparable, with a great hybrid WFH model and a flexible schedule that works for personal needs are so great. Union is excellent and the benefits package is amazing. The only downside is the Salesforce patient info and charting system which is difficult to use, poorly designed, and is incredibly inefficient.

I have never been in a job where I feel so supported and encouraged to grow and learn more, both professionally and personally. The leadership team is so understanding and determined to sustain a positive work culture where everyone feels included and important. Having the flexibility to work from home as part of a hybrid work model allows for a great work-life balance that is hugely appreciated. A great workplace!
