My experience as a bus driver at Bouchier presented a mixed bag of pros and cons. While the provided benefits, such as free flights, food, and accommodation, are definite advantages, there are significant areas of concern that potential applicants should be aware of.

One notable issue is the perceived lack of diversity in hiring practices. It appeared that individuals of African descent were given preferential treatment, which may create an uneven playing field for other applicants. Additionally, I witnessed instances of unprofessional conduct, including harassment of female staff, that were not adequately addressed.

Career advancement opportunities within the company seem limited. Obtaining pay raises, promotions, or transfers proved to be exceptionally difficult. While the initial pay is acceptable, it has fallen behind the competitive rates offered by similar positions in urban areas.

The work schedule follows a 14/7 rotation, which can be demanding and require significant time away from home.

Overall, while the logistical benefits are attractive, the company culture and career progression opportunities left much to be desired.

Management is there to help teach and train whoever needs it but they do not hire very many green hands. Management also has its favorites that get better jobs, easier work each shift and you will find yourself doing the exact same job day in and day out because of the favoritism. They will also over look experienced hands that have 5-20 yrs experience and give a leadership role to someone with very minimal experience in this field of work all because of favoritism. The culture is not the problem here it's the management letting supervisors do as they feel. Pay is also very low compared to all other companies for the same work. Benefits are very expensive and not very good but RSP is great. Like every where other workers talk behind other people's back and everyone there is for themselves, there is not a very good atmosphere which again falls back on the management not doing their part. 

HVAC department at CNRL site Horizon: This company seems to have a target to turn around staff, unqualified individuals runs the shifts, unqualified junior staff gets tasked to do work which by occupation standards they shouldn't be allowed to do at all. Management actively searching ways to trap staff in wrong doing, they search for the smallest of opportunities to pounce and fire staff, the mid management structure micro manage everything. They make no secret about the joy found when firing someone, often loudly proclaiming that they will personally drive you to the gate. Everyday you work in constant fear, wondering if today is your turn. If you happen to make a mistake, they have you take a drug and alcohol test, then there's the humiliation afterwards, they have you read a piece on misconduct in front of the rest of the Department,  stating that if you do this voluntarily, they will put your case to rest. Luckily I managed to get away from them.

The health benefits are inexpensive but in comparison you get very little coverage. If you have a large family like myself or are looking to expand your family you’ll find that your paying large sums out of pocket for a lot of basic things like teeth cleaning. 

The long term disability deduction is over $200 a month! It feels like we’re all paying into a forced grift! 

It’s the Bouchier way or the highway, never have I personally felt so undervalued in an organization and I’m not alone.

The office staff they shuffle from other departments are all kind but inexperienced in anything HVAC related. 

They will expect a tremendous amount of flexibility from the technicians but will offer not an ounce in return. 

A sentence you will never hear here is “what could we do to make your job, and in turn our client satisfaction better?” 

If your good at your job keep looking.. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Free food, camp! A Few people. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management if you read this. You got a bad apple of a “leader” in the group get rid of that one and things could be better.  One person gets away with anything for the fact no one will say or do anything. It’s been proven multiple times at K site. Stressful beyond belief.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, you have to watch who you talk to about frustrations within the group. No one in an office labeled as a “leader” will do anything to make you comfortable when you think your talking to one in confidence word of what was talked about gets out. It’s bad and getting worse at K site.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressing, your watched constantly when your doing your job and it’s looking good your ridiculed for stopping for 5 mins after going steady for 2-3 hours. You may have a “ working leader” sitting in a company vehicle on the phone all day making calls.

When I started in January, I was greeted with enthusiasm and the family feel I had heard about. 

My first positive impression was the on-boarding package I received a month prior to starting. I have never received a package so thorough when starting with a new company. I definitely felt prepared for my start date and had a good understanding of the company before walking in the door. 

The next positive experience was the on-boarding plan that outlined what was expected of me and the company for the next 15, 30, 60 and 90 days to ensure my transition into the roll was positive/successful. The plan has been my road-map and helped me get comfortable with the roll and my colleagues faster than I expected. 

On top of the professional side of things, the company focuses on making work safe but definitely enjoyable through professional development, social activities and inclusion within events, fundraising and volunteer opportunities. 90 days in and I am extremely happy to join the Bouchier team.

The workers at Bouchier (CNRL) are great.  Supervision plays favorites but they do seem to try to keep everyone working.  Until the time to choose comes, then its friends first.
RIDICULOUS management structure.  Supervision and lead hands seem to be the ones out running around trying to find work.  Makes you wonder what the people making the big bucks actually do.   
Im yet to see any benifitial contributions made by the site operations manager.  Should he not be the one doing bids, quotes and securing work?  From what I hear he does ZERO.  Except collect a big pay check.
Overall Bouchier is good to work for, when they actually have work for us.  But we get sent to camp quite a bit due to lack of work.
I have worked all over the oilsands and in my experience site/operations managers have a constant presence and are involved in all aspects of the site.  That doesn't happen at CNRL with Bouchier.
We need an operations manager that can keep Major Projects working.  Or at least tries.

typical day on the job was first we had a tool box meeting and waiting until the row call was done when got assigned place to work that night when we were done that job. the supervisors gave us more jobs we can do around site. what I have learned on that job was how to be more of a harder of worker then I am now and do the job correctly without getting hurt. the management wasn't to bad I didn't mind it. the hardest part of the job was working on the coldest night of winter sometimes, but I didn't mind that's why you always come prepared for that job. my co workers were great to work with. I was with a crew of people that got along well with one another. the most enjoyable part of my job was meeting new people from different provinces and hearing their stories about their work experience in the oil sands since it was my first job working in the oil sands or working out of my province Saskatchewan. if I enjoy doing I'm glad I got to experience that.

Workers rewarded when fully engaged, some discontent among people who simply show up expecting automatic raises and promotions. Good morale generally, but highly dependent on direct supervision, as management rarely engages in day to day activities. Good client relations seems to be best path toward advancement. Typical shifts are 12 hrs long, with an unpaid break. little to no OT available, very little monetary incentives, mediocre benefits, RRSP matching. Work can be enjoyable if you are competent/versatile enough to be trusted with various tasks, though many labourers and operators get stuck in a position without any additional training offered. Strong safety culture, though many workers fear that incident reporting will result in punishment, and some are hesitant to report any sort of near miss or minor property damage, due to company paranoia about having a spotless safety record.

I've been in my trade a long time now and worked for multiple different contractors in Canada, and I have to say that this is the worst benefits package I have ever received in my life as a worker. I talk to other employees and they say it just keeps getting worse as the years go by, the employer keeps taking away more and more benefits. Dont these people realize majority of the people that work for them have family's to support and they need better coverage instead of giving out a lousy $500 max health spending account for your household per year which doesn't rollover. This is garbage...
Theres no overtime ever just compressed work week that's all  rare to get OT. 
This company only cares about Management not the guys in the field where it all counts.
So much negativity because of all this lack of everything.
