Branksome Hall

I worked in the school shop for 16 months and was subjected to a very toxic environment. The shop itself, students and parents were all amazing to work with. Staff and faculty all very welcoming and kind but the shop manager is negative and extremely passive aggressive. I learned that upper management and HR would rather choose to ignore the hostile environment than address the issues. Its really too bad as I thrived in the shop and increased sales significantly. Im far too experienced, seasoned and educated to have to put up with a bully manager. 

The pace is hectic and demand is high due to the echelon of clientele. Pay is sub-standard considering the demanding portfolio of responsibilities when compared to similar institutions. Poor support for work-life balance. Poorly planned strategic re: employees, roles, divisions of labour.

I really enjoyed working with the students and doing extracurricular activities (lots of opportunity to volunteer and help out in all departments) with them.  Dealing with HR can sometimes be frustrating as there are a lot of unanswered questions.  Really read over contracts, ask questions and push for things that you want before accepting one.  If you work here really branch out and try to meet people from other departments (very helpful assets).

It is an organization which overworks people and promotes less qualified men over women. 

The hours are too long and the administration are not always supportive. There is a culture of fear operating that is regrettable. It prevents people from doing their best work.

The faculty and students, however, are top notch. This is with the notable exception of The English Department, where they bully others.

I was lucky enough to work with people who were appreciative, collaborative, who possessed the "all hands on deck" attitude that is so helpful in these environments. I made lifelong friends there and miss them very much but needed to move on to bigger opportunities.

Working at Branksome Hall has been an amazing experience, meeting different students from around the world and calling one place home with them has been very special, it is an inspiring and wonderful place to work, meet people and grow both as an individual and as a professional.

Each day of work at Branksome Hall was challenging and exciting. No two days would ever be the same. My co-workers were supportive and helpful and the students were eager to learn and be a part of the community.

Branksome was a very fun environment to work at in the summer. There are multiple camps so you get lots of variety of which one you would like to work in week to week. Staff was very supportive and fun to work with.

I enjoyed working there however, balancing the schedules was quite challenging. I wish there was more organization but I hear every year gets better since they are new.

This workplace can be good short-term. But long-term prospects are limited unless you are part of the clique. 
Salaries at Independent schools are notoriously low, this one is no exception.
