The chair was extremely welcoming and supportive, and always took the time to talk when needed despite an obviously heavy workload. Colleagues I worked with were also highly collaborative. Happy to share material and simply requesting that you share your creations and ideas in kind to make the program overall better. I was made to feel very welcome, and I appreciated it. It made a world of difference. My work facilities also seemed well equipped for my needs. Overall very positive, but have 2 critiques.

1) As some have mentioned, being contract is brutal. Incredibly unstable, and an unknown schedule each term. You HAVE to be working another job. to make a living, and it can be tough. They want (as they should) industry bests to teach students - but how can you expect such people to work a 12 hour per week contract for an indefinite period of time to maybe become FT eventually, given they are probably doing very well in their respective field already? Really, I couldn't do this, and that's why I left.  The sheer number of contract workers that have been doing so for many years makes it obvious the college is gaming the system. They could likely hire dozens of people FT but refuse to create FT positions, and continue to force people on PT Contract

2) I was lucky to get a FT interview after a year (which I did not get FT, but that's ok) was a panel interview, plus a sample lesson which is fine. It uses a scoring system. I was given good feedback on it after, and told nobody ever scores high enough on their first attempt to be considered. I appreciated being explained to how it works. I fault it though, as a number of questions were based around internal policy dealing with student situations which a new applicant or contract employee is never trained or made aware of. You'd likely research these and know better prior to your second attempt if you stick around on contract.

Also there were a number of questions about dealing with "diversity issues" with students and in the class.   My students were extremely diverse with many countries, backgrounds and languages represented. Perhaps I was just fortunate, but I had zero student issues based around this in my time there. I felt I could relate well to all, and they interacted well together, and supported each other as well. Answering these questions was hard because it seemed like I had to "make an issue" where my experience was that the campus already had an excellent air of inclusiveness.

From financial assistance to tutoring, educational assistance and program advice, we support our students along their chosen career path while abiding by both college and ministry policy and initiatives.

Through my employment, I have had the opportunity to develop my customer service skills through working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I have learned to adjust to the traits of others to better understand their needs and develop a professional rapport, to be empathetic and courteous, to make suggestions that provide ease of access to the tools and resources available, to work with management to achieve the vision of our department, and to take initiative where needed.

The hardest part of my job is not being able to assist someone that needs my help. Not because I have not tried but because I have to abide by the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of my role and my job. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing a smile on the student's face, hear them calling you by name and telling you or someone else how you have helped them, watching them graduate. When they come back and ask if you remember them and tell you how your single decision has made a huge impact on their life and offer to give you a hug or a token of their appreciation. It makes you realize why you do what you do, why you get up every morning and go to work, why you push through those tough days, and most of all, why you never give up.

The job was in-person for the first two years, then remote during the second two.  The work culture was very positive, and the office would have potluck parties occasionally for holidays and birthdays. Teams were small (2-6 people) and supportive of each other, and the office environment was relaxed and stress. My managers were incredibly supportive, working with the team to resolve problems and offer advice. Work responsibilities were generally well communicated and given reasonable deadlines. The work schedule was very flexible and accommodating for student life. 
There were plenty of opportunities for personal advancement through certification courses in related skills and software. The work itself was also very educational, offering real-world experience with research, design, and manufacturing.
Work would get more stressful as certain project deadlines approached or important meeting presentations occurred, but this was not too frequent. There were few means of career advancement out of this position, unless you were able to get a co-op student position. The pay was also low (minimum wage). One issue for longer projects was that there was consistent researcher turnover (students who graduated could not continue working in a student researcher position), resulting in project delays and missed deadlines which added undue stress.

Often very fast paced based on the time of semester, you may often find yourself moving from task to task quickly due to the multitude of objectives that need to be completed in an educational environment. I've learned the office cycles from my experience here and how important it is to keep your client base happy and informed as well as many career tips and tricks for the future. Management could use some stabilization however due to the recent shifts and changes in the work structure and the technology this can be excused. Co-workers are very friendly and willing to work together to solve problems. they take their jobs very seriously when it comes to students but they do not let it get in the way of everyone's personal well being. They make friends easily and get along great. The hardest part of the job is trying to prevent yourself from becoming overwhelmed. When many tasks hit you at once you must learn to prioritize and break each task down one at a time otherwise you may miss your deadlines. The most enjoyable part of the job is the staff, they make the place cheerful and manageable all while adding their personal touch to every little conversation even when there is work to be done.

As a Campus Tour Ambassador at Centennial College, my experience has been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. It has given me the opportunity to share my love for the college with prospective students, parents, and visitors. Every tour feels like a unique journey, where I get to showcase the vibrant student life, state-of-the-art facilities, and diverse academic programs Centennial offers. One of the most satisfying aspects of this role is the ability to connect with people from various backgrounds, answer their questions, and ease any concerns they may have about starting college.

I enjoy tailoring each tour to the group’s interests, whether it's focusing on specific programs or highlighting student support services. The positive feedback I’ve received from guests has been a constant source of motivation. This role has also helped me grow professionally, improving my communication skills and boosting my confidence. Overall, being a Campus Tour Ambassador has been a truly enriching experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Centennial College.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Helping other students to perform labs and understanding theoretical knowledge. 
Active participation in the College´s events and building practical projects and equipment. 
Active involvement in the education process. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing relevant.  Everything was a valuable and satisfactory experience. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
One of the most important values is respect and teamwork. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Every day, I had to check and inspect the equipment and tools necessary to perform the labs, and previously review the lab sheet to ensure proper preparation and review safety protocols for the lab. 

Then, helping faculty when needed and assisting students with lab practices. Checking that everything goes well and safety and  fter that keep all matrials and tools and store them.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people I worked with daily were extremely knowledgeable and highly motivated to have a successful project. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Access to our third-party vendor was limited to Zoom meetings because it was during COVID. They were unable to be on-site, so this put more work on me and others at Centennial College.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I worked in the office for the first year (before COVID). The environment was well equipped, and everyone worked well together and were supportive of each other. The rest of the time I worked there was performed remotely from my home. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Daily meetings with stakeholders, either updating requirements and specification documents, or meetings with the third-party vendor designing screens and configuring the software. All very enjoyable.

In the School of Hospitality, the dean and chairs are horrendous to work for.  They hire their friends for key positions and ignore contributions by senior instructors- especially those there on contract.  A terrible culture, you never know from one day to the next if you have any hours. 
They use their senior teachers to develop programs, then give courses to recent graduates of the program to teach. These “teachers” have no teaching nor industry experience and expect other teachers to teach them how to conduct class. An absolute joke!  
Anyone with a breath and a check book is accepted into the School of Hospitality, no screening, no credentials needed.  Popular with those seeking to get into Canada.

I loved working here. The management team will absolutely help you succeed in attaining your professional goals. Throughout Centennial College you get access to printing, free counselling, a quiet area, free gym access, and a lot more. This is definitely a place where you will love the job because time flies when your are having fun. Also, your colleagues provide the best advice and are nice people to talk to. The best part about working at Centennial is you will never leave having a bad day, most of the days you will leave smiling and laughing. Throughout the days of doing my coop at Centennial I was provided with multiple opportunities to build on my current skill set.

My overall experience working at Centennial College is great. You have the opportunity of interacting with guest, getting more acquainted with the school's system, working in the call center and accomplishing given task with coworkers. During my experience I have a better knowledge of how to manage my time on busy days and strategies of dealing with customer and guest who had a frustrating day. The hardest part of my job while working at the college was getting graduates to return gowns while i was working in the gowning department in the previous graduation. However, the part i enjoyed the most was when all coworkers had to cooperate with each other during the rush hour session of the ceremony.
