If you looked up narcissism in the dictionary, there would be a picture of the City of Cold Lake's logo there. The level of disrespect, poor leadership, and lack of responsibility is disgraceful for any organization, let alone a municipality. There's a reason they hire multiple candidates for the same positions on an almost annual basis. It's mindblowing that they'd rather lose an entire team of people they view as incompetent, than reflect inwards on how their leadership contributed to poor morale, overwhelming workloads, and zero growth opportunities.

I had a great experience working for the City since I enjoyed my work and had a lot of fun with my department. Obviously there's a lot of bureaucracy in municipal government, and some of the upper management/city council have been there for too long and lack fresh and modern perspectives on things. Overall though I definitely recommend working for the City.

Management runs double standards and are hypocritical. It's unfair that they promote a healthy work environment in words but fail to support it in practice.  They preach to take your breaks, and to come forward if you need help or are overwhelmed, that they are a team and supportive. However don't be fooled, taking your breaks and coming forward for help will get you labeled as lazy, incompetent and unable to preform your job.

The City of Cold Lake was the perfect summer student job. Tasks included cutting grass, maintaining baseball diamonds, painting and working both individually and as a team. I enjoyed working outside and having individual responsibilities while still being able to ask questions. Overall the pay was great and the work was enjoyable.

Best placed I’ve worked to date! The staff , the environment, and the work place culture is amazing! I would recommend anyone interested to apply. I learned so much and felt very supported during my time there. If I was still in Alberta, I would go back in a heartbeat. 

I really enjoyed my time working for the city of cold lake. although sometimes it was difficult, it was always rewarding. my superintendent was really great and understanding with all issues we had. throughout our small team we created great bonds. i would recommend working for the city always.

High ego Management creates toxic workplace in most city buildings. Poor hiring practices and a lack of fleshed out policies have lead to widespread incompetence. Experienced employees leave fast leaving behind a cycle of half baked training and corruption.

Wouldn’t recommend a position with the City. 
Management is unprofessional, Nothing gets done about it. 
No work life balance unless you’re friends with management. 
No confidentiality. 



There's something to be said about high turn over... its scary to know these people are in power over the city of Cold Lake. They run on ego and power and will stomp over whoever is in the way or who don't agree. Benefits aren't worth your sanity. 

Management expects zero work life balance. Management will change their minds several times a day then gaslight you if you mention and inconsistencies. Management will do anything to avoid responsibility.
