-a typical day would be me coming in and catching up on emails (on average 20 a day) and responding to any that need attention; call winners from each radio station to let them know how,where and when to pick up their prize; do an inventory and vehicle maintenance check on all equipment; write proposals for contest ideas and prizes to give away on air; on site checks for promotions events; organize any sites that the station will be live from each week; communicate with clients and listeners to ensure they're happy with the station and be there for any communication that they may require.

- I've have learned many things from specialized promotion planning, customer service skills, video and audio editing abilities, organizational skills, and photography.

-The hardest part of my job is keeping up with the hours while trying to keep a sleep schedule. 

-The most enjoyable part of my job is the atmosphere and being a real part of the community. Getting to meet some of your favourite celebrities and experiencing things that the general public doesn't normally get to see is truly amazing as well

Originals or people with creativity shouldn't consider working here, they value people who won't question them. Big bosses only care about keeping the stations barley alive, long enough for them to retire. 

I was working 18 hour days, and sometimes only got 2 hours of sleep between shifts.

You're told if you work hard and cross train in different departments, eventually they'll promote you. This is a bald faced lie, they just need people to work long hard hours so they can spend the majority of the year on vacation. 

My limited  time off outside of work was filled with answering useless emails and phone calls from the people here that have nothing better to do all day. I got close to 20 emails before 10 am on a daily basis.

There are some fantastic people, especially in Engineering, but outside of that it's basically like being back in High School.   

I'm FINALLY free!

This is my own opinion and doesn't relate to Corus as a whole. I've often witnessed coworkers openly bad-mouthing people, especially in the marketing/design department. Managers and higher ups in multiple departments are included. Favoritism is a huge thing as well. If someone is liked more then you, expect them to get the perks first. I've also seen people putting someone down to raise their preferred person up. I've talked to people who have stayed super late, not because of them not getting work done but because they are purposely being overloaded so they would leave. I've worked here for many years now, but it hasn't been getting better. If strong politics is your thing then right now maybe this place is the place for you. I'm only placing this here because I really hope the work environment will change and I really want to help people who might be to nervous to reach out. To late for myself though, I'm planning on leaving very shortly.

Unfortunately, this organization does not value long-term employees.  Roles are frequently restructured or eliminated, often replacing experienced staff with newly hired individuals who have little to no practical background.  This constant turnover creates the appearance of a healthy workplace, but in reality it reflects deeper issues with employee morale and retention.

Training is minimal and often amounts to being told to “figure it out yourself.”  Support from management is limited, and many leaders lack formal managerial experience, which contributes to inconsistent expectations and poor communication.

Overall, it’s a difficult environment to thrive in.  I would strongly encourage job seekers to explore other options where their time, experience, and contributions will be genuinely appreciated. 

I start my day by checking office email- at times there is additional work to be done for older files, updates, fixes, new exports, editing of photoshop files etc otherwise I continue with working on my flash and photoshop files for the game I am assigned to.
I daily meeting with the team starts at 11 am. We sit around and discuss the progress on each assinged game. Any new additions, new requirements etc. After the daily meeting is back to working on animation, flash and photoshop files.
The work itself is the enjoyable part of my day. Second to the lunch hour by the lake.
Co-workers are very talented and great to be around.
Management is not very involved with the exception of the daily meeting or if there is addition work.
I've learn a great deal from my Art Director who has been in the interactive field for more than 20 years.

Like all broadcasting outlets this one continues the slave driven culture of worker bees were you can be replaced as fast as you can be fired. Management doesn't care about anything other than making money and doing whatever it takes to keep their high paying jobs and looking good to ownership and continually makes you feel like you are unimportant - except for the success of the company finances. Long hours, high demands, being called on at any time to show up at work with an inference that if you do not your job could be at stake, low pay, no job security, a constant flow of people being fired and new people showing up with high hopes that they will make a difference which they never do as they just become bitter and disinterested like everyone else.

I generally had positive feedback from managers, trained in many areas, and really tried to work my way up, but when positions with more responsibility became available it seemed my efforts and experience there weren’t enough. It was a good place to start out and learn, and I really did like a lot of the people I worked with, but I just couldn’t seem to get past a part time/entry role after three years. I eventually found the opportunity I was looking for somewhere else. 

Corus Entertainment was once a strong independent voice in Canadian media. Then it was merged with Shaw. They dropped the "Entertainment" from their name if that's any indication.

Now their prime product is ET Canada and Global News and any sense of creativity is gone.

Radio budgets are slashed, talent just shuffles off to different markets, rebranding over substance

they do not pay for independent contractors such as photographers who provide media on their sites.

middle management does what they can to hang on to Shaw's coattails, producing mediocre content, accepting service work (taking content from third parties) and simply editing it, instead of creating anything new, or that won't sell toys

Turnover seems high. I saw 2 high level managers quit while I was there 4 months as a contractor. My contract was supposed to be 6 months, but cut short due to budget issues. Don't they plan ahead? Didn't they save money from the managers who quit? I see line graphs every 2 weeks of how successful they are, how they're paying off debt, etc. so budget issues makes no sense. I got good reviews for my work, so that's not it. Another thing: my manager is too afraid to try anything new. "Because we've always done it that way" might keep your job if you're up high enough, but that won't get you ahead. Take a risk once in a while!  Geez...

This division is epic!
The best thing about this position is you can learn a lot from the managers and be able to exposed to various tasks and also be able to learn so many things, such as excel, access, micro, VBA, accounting, auditing, tax, management accounting, job costing, business combination, inter-company transactions and much more. You'll be communicating with various departments not just within the company but also international office, and be able to exposed to so many exciting things. Great working environment, great office, just can't tell enough about this division.
