Management are fragmented and don't communicate with each other or any other levels of management

There is little to no consideration for work/life balance, regardless of time or circumstance

The great colleagues and leaders are often the ones who struggle relentlessly against the overwhelming currents of ignorance and apathy.  Unfortunately, they are also the ones most likely to burn out and leave before anything significant is achieved

Creative or innovative thinking is absolutely not encouraged.  Not only will you will stick out like a sore thumb, but you will often get saddled as the owner of the phantom initiative then marked negatively in your reviews as someone who cannot complete your work

I have never encountered any organization that places so much emphasis and REQUIRED participation in things such as sharing your feelings about things and forced feedback to leadership about items that will seemingly never change

I have personally learnt a lot in my role, however that is simply because there was nobody present to guide or mentor me, rather I served as a dumping ground for undesirable work

The organization works on a scorecard system, which essentially pits each department against each other in order to pin liability on each other as opposed to working in unison to accomplish a task or resolve an issue

Never have I encountered so many "less qualified" hiding amidst the general population before.  People struggle to communicate in basic terms and hide ignorance behind the endless mountains of red tape and bureaucracy, otherwise known as processes.  There is an over abundant glut of meetings that are completely useless and occupy much of your day, however you are still responsible to deliver on your products, thus perpetuating the free overtime syndrome

The company is owned by a parent company in the US.  There is zero meaningful communication between the entities and the Canadian division is seen as nothing more than a very annoying but steady cash cow in an otherwise stagnant organization

Despite what is being promised, there are no opportunities for internal growth unless you enter the company at ground level (call centre) and there is absolutely no initiative for learning and development, despite what is promised.  Their idea of training and development is unpaid job shadowing and extra work outside of your normal hours, which goes completely unnoticed and unappreciated

The environment is quite toxic.  Bullying is quite rampant and the office politics rhetoric is extremely overwhelming yet management refuses to step in and weed out the repeat offenders

Management is very bias. I get mentally tortured all the time by my supervisor which has impacted my mental and physical health. This place will drive you crazy because of the kind of management they have. Do not bother going to HR as they will do nothing for you. This place has hired the most incompetent team leaders ,supervisors and the managers. You have no place to go and complain. If you go to your manager to complain about  your supervisor,  management would not listen to you and will make it more difficult for you. In a nutshell stay away from this place. Mangers,supervisors and the team leaders and unethical, rude, disrespectful and incompetent. Yearly evaluation is the biggest joke which is not based on our yearly performance at all. Micromanagement is rampant. Gets confusing when one manger overrides another - which leads to a miscommunication.There is no appreciation for a job well done- just the opposite actually. They will look for any reason to write you up or suspend you. The work culture is toxic and chaotic. Your concerns are never answered. You find that you are basically ignored.They do not seem to care about their employees. the supervisors could use more training on how to manage staff and behave ethically. Environment sucks. Manager/Management does not have COMPASSION for you, they just want to make your life miserable. This place has terrible management that will screw you over horribly no matter how long you've been with the company.

I left my job after a decade at ESC and haven't written, as I wanted to remove emotion from my posting.  I hope people can gain from this post.

My time started great, positive, excellent leadership (a decade ago). The wage was reasonable, the tasks were reasonable, and I was happy.  Then, one poor decision piled on top of another, and a horrifyingly toxic environment was born.

ESC is just the worst environment you could imagine.  I feel like I was screaming at the top of my lungs, yet was never heard.  The annual survey is a joke - nothing comes of it.  When management speaks to it in meetings, they absolutely ignore the issues at hand, and focus on the menial things.  

The middle-to-upper management is the true issue here.  The worker bees are great, and too loyal to have stayed for so long.  Management doesn't listen, and to put it simply: you ask for a spoon, they give you three forks.  A potluck doesn't ever make up for true nature of the organization.

I didn't realize how poor my emotional health was, until I was away and at another employer.  My life has improved significantly, both emotionally, physically and financially since leaving ESC.

Extremely negative attitude/work ethic from Management and coworkers who cut corners constantly. Managers don't care if you go above and beyond so it is not necessary to try hard. Don't over exert yourself for no reason because they will just make you work more. Poor management in leadership roles.  No working life balance, they don't care about your well being. Only care about numbers and is depressing to work for such people. Your boss doesn't care about you, your family, or your life. You may give them your all day and night for years, but that doesn't matter one bit to them. The organization can no longer sustain itself and is seeing a quick downhill spiral due to inexperienced individuals being placed in the wrong positions. Management and HR  are both incompetent. Yearly evaluation of the employees is stupid and it's never based on your performance. It's all based on who said what about you. Mangers are always working against you and constantly putting you down.

Express Scripts looks great on the inside but it's best described as chaotic. Management is only there to make themselves look good, take credit for other people's ideas and believe that it's best to micromanage everyone. One of the current Front-End Pharmacy managers has no pharmacy experience and believes that pharmacy issues are easy to resolve. The staff are treated like garbage, the REGISTERED TECHNICIANS are not allowed to use the full scope of their practice and if you try to find out why, you get told that "we'll talk about it later." This place used to be amazing to work at when SCI was handling the logistics. Now? Everything is terrible. Do not expect to be given the respect that you deserve, you won't get it.

If something goes wrong? Expect to be blamed fully for it even though it wasn't your fault.

I'll chime in. Can't speak for corporate side, but the pharmacy is a place to avoid. The people are awesome, management something else. Agree about the comments made about lack of competency, stealing ideas and taking credit for other peoples work, no respect, micromanagement beyond what is acceptable. Me, myself and I run the place. Don't bother complaining to HR because HR and the management are best friends. Mess up once and you get fired. Management messes up all the time and finds a scapegoat. Had one person who cared enough to help out and support but was squeezed out as a threat to management that has no pharmacy experience, no leadership skills, rules through fear, intimidation and bullying, and should have stayed selling houses. Has a circle of snitches so beware.

Bring an American company, I found many subtle differences in how the organization runs, with American values versus Canadian ones which we pride ourselves on . I have had more success working at a not-for-profit organization versus this company, which is one of the most wealthy companies in the United States. They never provided enough staff, salary, was absolutely dismal, management was under qualified, in the tasks assigned to one person were far too many for anyone to achieve success. I have gained so many lifelong friends from ESC, however I will never get back the thousands I spent on therapy trying to survive my day to day at ESC.  FYI I was an auditor, and MLK is by far the worst leader I've ever seen across my career. 

It doesnt take a genious to realize the sudden positive reviews with glowing responses from HR are either from HR or company shills. Bottom line is this place is toxic and everything negative is based on facts. One simply needs to look at the was this helpful votes and see how the fake positive gets downvotes while the real negative gets upvotes. I have seen employees cry. Too many managers sit in offices with door closed and dont interact. I keep hearing negative stories in quiet whispers from adjacent cubes. Upper management hires friends not qualified and dont know pc's. IT is a joke. Sorry HR but time to stop whitewashing. Why so hard to deal with bad management? Do you not see the real words here?

Managers are bias and disrespectful to the employees they dislike. I am working with a Manager whose door is always closed and if you go to her office to discuss something, she always makes excuses that she is busy and she has no time, excuses after excuses. There was  not a single time that I asked to see her and she had few minutes for me, But that is not a case with the people she likes the most in my department. My manager's favorite people gets her instant attention. Mangers and supervisors are always giving the hard time to the employees whom they do not like.

It seems as though the company does not want to improve, any automation or change is met with rejection from all management. I saw a lady get fired while all she wanted to do is make everyone's job easier. Some people work there for years on contracts so the company doesn't have to give them benefits. It is not a bad job is one doesn't care about having a career or the company. The directors have hard time understanding what is happening at lower levels and many times can't manage well because of that.
