The work is diverse and interesting, the staff is passionate and focused, and you often get a firm sense of accomplishment from project completion. 
The benefits package is pretty great, the pension is one of the best in Canada and the pay rate is above average. 
Management is eager to learn, open to ideas and friendly. Senior management are ego-free and approachable. The Director is driven, personable and accepting of fresh ideas.
This is not a place for people looking for a lazy, menial, nothing-job. With 72 schools and six education centres within Grand Erie’s umbrella large projects come thick and fast, so you’ll definitely need to be prepared to work hard, think on your feet and be challenged. But, for me, the work is almost always fun and rewarding. 
As horrifying as this sounds, sometimes I actually look forward to Monday morning after a long, boring weekend… 

I cleaned schools was given large areas to clean and am a perfectionist so...near the end of my time with the board...injured myself alot.
I went to school for two years full time while I worked. I learned that when I put my mind to something...I can achieve amazing success. My physical body and my mind are in total conflict.I believe I can do anything, my body insists otherwise.
I found management to be almost non existent when things were going well, otherwise...well lets just say there was much room for improvement in that department. I never felt like I was supported. I worked hard and never got any praise. Management always expected more, even though the staff and teachers were pleased with me, they were never happy, it seemed. Injuries were a common occurance for me the last few years
I truly enjoyed the teachers and students...I forged unforgettable friendships.

If you are looking for a job free from political drama, this is NOT the place for you.  However, if you don't mind all that and want a good wage and benefits then this is a great organization.
The teachers/EAs were never happy with their circumstances so they do a lot of complaining on the job. I always thought school were about the children but apparently I was wrong. ;) 
If you wanted to apply for a new position you were hired based on years worked, not your skill set. This can be very demoralizing. 
But if you work the hours, keep your mouth shut, work hard and make a good impression you will go far. It may take a few years but it will pay off in the end.

I have been fortunate to have worked with many visionary staff members who have initiated projects and ideas to promote enjoyment of education by students from varied backgrounds and diverse academic skills. The hardest part of the job is helping someone understand policies and procedures when they don't feel it is working in their favour. The most enjoyable part of the job is the sincere gratitude from parents and staff when I have been able to assist them or help solve a problem for them.

I would start at 6:45am and work till classes started and I learned how much janitors actually work to keep students in a clean environment. I would clean any garbage laying around on the ground, take recycling out and change the garbage cans to make sure there was a new bag in the garbage cans each day. I think waking up super early was really hard because I am someone who likes to sleep in but I appreciated it after a few weeks passed.

The occupation demands hard work but does not overwhelm the employee (especially if they are but a student entering the workplace). Upper management is a little unorganized but supervisors are more competent. Must work in various weather conditions and do various tasks with various equipment (both light and heavy).  I would recommend this to just about anyone looking for a student job or a full time occupation.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Easy communication.  Great work schedule for me. Great people to work with every day. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some days you get lots of difficult kids. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Mostly everyone is in their own space and job. Makes for a great environment.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I spend my day with kids during recess and lunch breaks. Kids like to play and eat.

Guaranteed paycheck every week, amazing benefits, management was always available to answer any questions or emergencies you had. When you do a good job you are noticed and appreciated. Hardly see the managers whatever shift you are on, unless you are not doing your job or you called them for something. Great people to work with. Will miss working here and will miss the relationships I built here. 

I am a school secretary. You start out as a casual secretary. 95% of training is on the job. A great group of secretaries that help each other out. I like that permanent jobs are decided based on seniority. Some senior management team members don't give secretaries the respect they deserve. As a school secretary you are usually the first person in and the last person gone at the end of the day. The job includes much more than taking attendance and answering phones. All in all it is a good experience.
