King Taps

King Taps is a great workplace in terms of team coherence, friendliness,  and networking. The company hires enthusiastic people with good communication skills and work experience in various fields. I learned a lot from working with chefs f various backgrounds. The workplace is very diverse and people are encouraged to make friends with their team and spend leisure time outside of work together. The company also paid for my food handler's certificate, as well as HepA and HepB shots. Management is very friendly and will take care of your needs as long as you let them know. 
However, it is very hard to get into a managing position, there is a constant reluctance on the part of management to raise salaries even when it is merited, and there is a pay discrepancy for different people  even if they are doing 100% the exact same work. Back of house positions are very physically demanding with long hours lasting sometimes over 10 hours. But overall, King Taps (back of house) is one of the best places I have ever worked at. We had staff parties like nowhere I have seen before. One time at a party the staff got to dunk a manager in a tub of cold water. So, if you are looking for awesome work culture, King Taps is your place and you will not want to leave.

The people I get to work with every night are the absolute best part of the job, from the upper managent to the dishwashers. Made many strong friendships here that I'm sure will be something I take with me if I leave. Work can be stressful and overwhelming at times in relation to the volume of orders that come in and if you're a closer you're expected to leave when the job is done. Which can make for lots of overtime esp in the summer which can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. The management is very understanding and sympathetic to whatever you may have going on in your personal life and are always there to lend a ear and give advice when needed. You get the feeling that they actually care about you as person and not just what you can do for them as an employee. Growth is possible but promotions are not delt out half Hazzardly, you really have to want it and exemplify company values in everything you do. Then you have to apply for it and be considered to be the best fit for the promotion. Overall I love working here, as much as somedays I think I wanna leave, I've never actually managed to finish writing a two week regeneration letter. I think I'd just miss everyone too much. 


The other staff were really fun to work along with. But management would ignore the availability I provided them with when getting hired on, weekly I found myself reminding management that multiple shifts they had given me were against my availability. To which they would then blame me for, how "I need t be more responsible with my availability". Management wouldn't answer messages or would brush off questions/concerns about requesting time off when it would be required to book flights/hotels. They also will mislead and tell males they do not hire any servers directly on, and one must work there way up to server. But they then hire countless females directly on as servers. I miss the co-workers! But not issues with management.

I'll keep it short and sweet.
If you're looking for hours and decent money, this is a great place to work. Also a great place to start with 0 experience and "work your way up". Reason I say that is because you can only get so far before you inevitable hit a wall and won't find a promotion to serve or bartend, mostly common with the men in busser/barback positions. If you're good at your job, and fulfill long hours in their schedule, consider yourself stuck in that position till you can at least find someone to replace you. And even then its a long shot.

Management is good, but its one of those places that uses the cliché phrase "If you have time to lean, you have time to clean". So like many have said, hit or miss. 

King Taps can be a fun place to work and you can make good money, but just like every serving job you can also leave after a long shift with no money. Adding to that, the amount you tip out on your sales is higher than any other restaurant I have worked at.
Management was hit or miss, depending on the Manager or shift leader on that day. And there can be visible favoritism when it comes to the younger shift leaders and the staff (who they are friends with).
They are passionate about having knowledgeable staff when it comes to the menu, which is fantastic, but means you better come to work ready for tests about all food and drink they offer.

I loved working here, the staff is so friendly and really do feel like a family. The food is great and we loved making friends with our regulars. Whether it's your first time visiting or you make regular visits, it always feels like home with good music.
The shifts are long and the money is decent, there are always shifts to pick up and days are the greatest. 
If you know your beer you'll do great here, if not it is difficult but imperative that you learn the beer closely to really inform your guests and serve them better based on likes they describe to you.

Working at king taps I absolutely adored all the servers, and managers, not really the sous chefs however. They where a pain to try and get a break from, also the food is severely overpriced for staff. I was paying anywhere from 10-12 dollars for a burger and fries. When you closed you only got a free staff meal, which consists of chicken, rice, and some veggie. The work environment was amazing but I was underpaid and significantly overworked and they didn't allow for growth in the company. 

This restaurant has one of the highest turnover rates in the city. I can genuinely say I do not know one other of my former coworkers who can speak on more pros than cons when it came to working here. 
Hostesses are in charge of taking resumes and interviews and they are trained to know who is a right "fit" or not. This goes along with priority seating too. If you're not the right 'fit', (meaning you're not a skinny instagram model), then you're not getting hired and you won't be seated at a table. Disgusting place to work

Had an excellent experience working at king taps as a server! It was my first job upon moving to Toronto and I would recommend it to most. The company is very organized and cares about their staff, but the management at king taps king west are particularly incredible. Shifts do get cut back in the winter but that is consistent amongst all restaurants.
