What I Believe I Learned: During my time at Meridian, I learned valuable skills such as effective communication, time management, and problem-solving. I also gained a deeper understanding of the industry and developed a strong sense of teamwork.

The Hardest Part of the Job: The hardest part of the job can be managing tight deadlines and balancing multiple priorities. However, the supportive team and effective management help me navigate these challenges successfully.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job: The most enjoyable part of the job is the sense of accomplishment I feel after completing a challenging project. Additionally, the camaraderie with colleagues and the opportunity to learn and grow make working at Meridian a rewarding experience.



Horrible place to work!

Once you get over the initial years of being fed complete lies about culture, employee appreciation and room for development, the company seems to be more concerned with their bottom line than helping the same Members that they boast are their "number 1 priority".  Management is inexperienced and generally hired from outside sources, who do not comply with Meridian's culture and overall values.  Degrading employees is a regular day occurrence and it is not uncommon to leave work feeling undeserved and worthless due to ridicule and reprimand for nothing more than doing your job and trying to help people.

They do not CARE about employees or Member's and they will only get worse the bigger they grow.  Glad I don't work for that horrible company any longer.

Thanks Meridian for the wasted years and negligent coaching from your highly stunted management team.  Especially the Manager at Pickering branch where I was from.

Working at a credit union is both rewarding and enjoyable because of the positive, team-oriented environment. Employees are genuinely supportive of each other, always willing to offer guidance or lend a hand when challenges arise. The workplace is engaging, with opportunities for learning and growth, and there is a healthy balance between professionalism and fun. Staff members celebrate each other’s successes and provide encouragement during busy periods, which fosters both motivation and trust. For anyone who enjoys a dynamic environment with supportive co-workers and a focus on helping members, a credit union provides the perfect balance of challenge, camaraderie, and workplace satisfaction.

I was a Licenced Financial Services Advisor and didn't find the job challenging.  It was all about taking care of customers immediate needs instead of helping them with long term goal planning. The focus is on mortgages and GICs, nothing else. They don't own their own securities so very little customers with mutual funds. Mutial funds are owned by Credential Asset Management so you'll have a different scorecard and manager.They also don't own their own credit cards so you have no access to view the accounts, you just do the application and then it's handed off to Calabria. They have Advisor call customers for service requests and sitting at the front desk because they barely have staff. Not a challenging place to work, no room to grow. The systems are horrible,  there is a different platform for every product.  The people are really nice to work with.

Not the same as it was here years ago when the culture was truly employee and member focused.  Too many gimmicky rate specials that can never lead to long term relationships with Members.  Management has been gradually replaced with former bank management (ie TD) and that "results are the only thing that matters" mentality has overtaken Meridian.  Unless you have been here for many many years, you don't really have much job security.  They are trying to reduce staff and focus on digital banking.
Really love dealing with most Members as they are true credit union clients but they too are seeing Meridian turning into a bank as well.
Too much animosity and competition within the company (retail, wealth, business banking) all fighting over the same $ to make their scorecard look better for bonuses.

Meridian is the result of two mergers while I worked there.  The first HEPCOE with AMCU in the mid 1990's and then HEPCOE with Niagara Credit Union in 2005.  The branch I worked at was the original head office of AMCU. This growth was aggressive in nature to try to capture the market share in the GTA branches.  My job was to provide administrative support to the manager and to greet Members as they came to the branch or called in.  My co-workers were fabulous and goal oriented.  The hardest part of the job was tracking sales as you went through the day as it was a manual process.  The best part of the job was the Members as they are the reason you come to work each day.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The benefits and allotted time off are great and the job load gives a decent work life balance.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Coworkers are manipulative and training is very very lackluster. A lot is expected of you to learn in only a two week window with constant berating. Your job security will always feel under threat. Micro managing is a huge issue at many branches.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The overall company missions is good and HR is easy to get along with. However work environment at the branch level is very petty and micromanaged.

What is the best part of working at the company?
A living wage employer. Very people centric. Inclusive culture. Encourages employees to put the member’s needs first. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes we have been short staffed and pulled in many directions. Technology is not the most advanced. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment and culture are great!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Reach out to members who are assigned to me regarding maturing investments. Help out at front counter during lunch breaks. Help to train new staff. Answer incoming calls from members who need help.

Working in Meridian was perfect for me as it allowed me to meet new people every day and build lasting relationships with our members. As Meridian Credit Union is not like a typical bank, it is more built toward wealth management and we usually deal more with members nearing retirement or looking to solidify their savings accounts rather than just have an outlet for daily transactions. This allowed me to create close connections with them, as they would come in regularly and would always remember my face.

I worked here for about a year and it was mostly great. The team I worked with were amazing, and Head Office really made everyone feel valued everyday. In the end, I left because it is a sales driven position where it's necessary to make monthly quotas and I didn't do well with the pressure. But I don't have a bad thing to say about the company. Very involved in employee's wellbeing and making customers happy in the process.
