BROKER / PROVINCIAL DIRECTOR

I was the broker of record for the province of Quebec and also a share holder of the managing company that owned Mortgage Intelligence Inc. The company was initially formed by several financial institutions including the TD bank, Manulife and several others. They purchased the best mortgage brokerage operations from across the country in order to build a new super-broker. This included the two firms I was with, Norlite Financial Services (Head office) and their Quebec division, le Centre Hypothécaire de l’Outaouais (a firm I owned). We took the company from coast to coast. I helped brand the new company in the province and worked towards bringing awareness to the mortgage brokerage industry. Today the company having been sold to GMAC is one of the largest super-broker’s in the business. We had close to 150 consultants in the province and over 1000 across the country at the time.

A typical work day is generating new business by communicating with existing sources of referral business. Assembling new applications and sending them off to appropriate lenders for approval.
I learned how to evaluate credit, find an appropriate match with lenders and dealing with innovative ways to assemble deals to meet client expectations.
The team at Head office is excellent and easy to deal with. Always accessible and able to provide help and solutions.
The difficulty with the job is keeping abreast of all of the lender policies and guidelines and understanding the difference between lenders.
The most enjoyable part of the job is providing consistent high level service which is appreciated by cliens.

Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Typical day consisted of the following items; executive support, check emails, check voicemails, setup meetings, event planning, travel arrangements, various preparation of documentation, correspondence, reporting, and contracts, expense reports, filing, minor HR responsibilities, review invoices to ensure accuracy and timely payment, held liaison role with executives handling highly confidential documents, ensured special announcements were error free and sent out in a timely fashion, various projects as assigned.
Management was great, co-workers were great.

My intense training is 1 hour a day.

My first client and mortgage, I was looking for guidance from my team lead broker to help me through it, he told me he wasn’t going to show me the underwriting or any of the ground work and that I would learn later.. took 18 days to respond to me when I asked for an update for my client.. and almost one month now just to process a deal.. overall gave me a brutal first experience with mortgage intelligence and I would not recommend anyone to work with their brokerage. 

For a company that prides itself on its ability to process payroll with a network of mortgage brokers, they do not have enough information at their fingertips to make informed decisions. Frequently, I find the information they give back to the agents is just some number they made up ... and then blame the agent for asking them to defend their number. 

Annual audits should not be necessary if you're doing the job right in the first place.

I have enjoyed my time at Mortgage Intelligence . It offered my the opportunity to open my own store front office and have a successful career in the mortgage financing industry. thoroughly enjoyed my time there!
