I use to work office jobs and have gained a lot of weight at my desk. After working for Nasco in the summer, I lost over 20lbs. This kind of work requires you to be very physical, it's not for everyone but if you don't mind labour work, it's the best!  

Hours are all over the place but flexible, which I like. Previous management was not the best, where I heard stories of management playing favorites due to how many shifts you accept, so I made sure to never decline a shift. However there is new management now and they seem much better.

The scheduling system is not the best, where they send last minute emails or text asking if you're available. And sometimes there isn't enough information for you to find the right location but if you give yourself enough time before a shift, then you should be fine. Punctuality is very important with this company, if you don't show up on time don't expect more work. Also compare to other contract companies, they pay you on time! I've never had an issue with their payment system.

I love this company because to me, it doesn't feel like work, compare to my previous office jobs. Working together, with a group of colourful characters, to build a concert stage from the ground up is surprisingly satisfying, especially stepping back to see the final creation at the end. Sometimes, you will see arguments break out but in the end of the day all of us are too exhausted to argue, and later become good buddies, and even gone out for beers at the end of a shift.

I have great bosses, great job and team but the job is really for big guys since its lifting and unloading equipment in 15 trucks everytime.

This is basically men's job but I just tried since this is in events. I wanted to learn and try if there will be some opportunities to be promoted. Only that, since we are carrying equipments which are bigger and heavier than 4 persons. Sometimes it is not safe and affecting health aspects.

I have learned that trying is not bad but you should also know your priorities in life. I love events and the company but in our team of 80 to 100 doing all the same job everytime there is an event would not be a healthy job for me. We are faced with live wires and electrical set up and sometimes not safe to be around. Yet, the company is so supportive and taking care of us everytime.

My co- workers are 99% men and they are all good and friendly.
The hardest part of the job is the unloading of the equipments in the trucks where sometimes you have to have a good break of yor own since you are protecting the things and avoiding accidents.

The enjoyable part of the job is everything. When you are being taken cared of by the company you feel great and enjoying everytime.

Meeting the overbook staff at a predesignated location with an on site promoter. Then from there on go from location to location greeting each promoter, making sure that each has my full attention. And if any concerns need to be address to address them to the best of my abilities. AS I would move from location to location I would also sign in/out the promoters. At times making special trips to address drop issues when informed by phone by the promoters as to rectify faulty drops. Periodically remind the promoters about procedures of the job as needed as well as emergency procedures for the safety of the promoters. But at all times making sure that a safe and comfortable work atmosphere exist for the promoters.

For those looking to make a little extra money at the entry level, you can consider working for this organization. While they still had a contract with the TTC to provide staff, they had a steady number of shifts they could provide to employees. I remember it being fast-paced and difficult if you didn't remember all the directions people asked you for. People could take out their frustrations on you if they were angry about having to take shuttle buses instead of their usual subway ride. 

However, since the TTC decided not to renew their contract with them, the shifts they offer have plummeted. I suppose they'll offer more work if you are part of their production team rather than their service team (which is the team they used to meet the TTC's staffing requests). These days it seems they only offer shifts related to production activities (such as stage set-up).

A typical day is unloading trucks of gear and setting up as required from the crew of that gig for that day. Work can be a little stressful if you are working with people that are not paying attention and just want to talk the whole time. being a stagehand you get to do alot of different areas of the show. Be it Audio/video setting up the speakers or the LED screens and working with the roadies. Or lighting can be fun two. The hardest part I would think is the long hrs it can be if you are there all day start to finish. Most enjoyable part is seeing the fruits of your labour. Workplace culture for the most part is good as long you know that you are there to work. Generally a good place to work.

Very early start of the day giving out 24 hours newspapers. I learned that not everyone is friendly in the morning. Management came everyday to check up on your 3 hours of work and how many papers were distributed to the pedestrians at the Skytrain station. I worked alone on this job. Hardest part of this job was pedestrians comments like I was not really doing a job just giving out papers. Most enjoyable was meeting some nice people during the 3 hours.

Also did hostess job for BC Lions Games & Monster Truck Event & the Rolling Stones.  Helped out for the Red Cross one year also packaging goodies for receipts of their Event.

Also worked in the VIP Tent for White Cap Soccer Games one summer serving Food & Beer.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The events are fun and building relationships with fellow colleagues is honestly the best part.

Sometimes the venues aren't transit friendly. Not often though

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is professional and fun. The culture supports diversity and those who are proactive. The supervisors are great humans.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depends on the assignment. Arrive a bit early, properly dressed for the role and work as a team with the others there. Sometimes the role requires a leader mentality as the team might be you and one other or alone.

Catered meals for each work shift, Weekly pay, Amazing co workers. Staffing agents always offering consistent work

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
go to the event location before trucks arrive.
  Organize set up, 
unload trucks 
set stages up.
 wait for the event to end. 
After patrons leave the event stage tear down happens, 
take lights staging speakers, and all equipment down, load trucks, Shift done

Nascos includes a variety of job opportunities, from serving at hotels to setting up for weddings, however; I usually prefer concerts and sports events. I am typically work as a cashier at those events. I love to work there since I get to work with different people every shift and it's quite flexible with my schedule. I also really like the fast pace because it makes me feel productive at what I am doing. Since concerts and sports events don't happen every week, I am not getting enough shifts to make ends meet, especially when the shifts are usually 4-5 hours each.

This is a temp staffing company which means they call you when they need you. This works for some people and covers a wide range of positions from sidewalk promotions to rock concerts. Some of the advantages of this type of work are that yo get to try out different types of work and they will help you find training for things that peak your intrest. I think it's a win/win for anyone career searching like myself.
