I feel very fortunate that being part of a team in both the Student Services Department in Pictou Campus and the Business Office in Truro Campus that my adaptablity to go from one project to another makes me a valuable person in this type of environment. My typical day goes from being able to enroll students, process different reports, help the registar in updating students grades, to covering front desk reception, being able to do process payroll, working on student accounts to covering bookstore reception. It is a very diverse type of job and gives me work experince in various areas of the college. I am very fortunate to have worked with great Managers in both campuses. They were very supportive of my ideas and the various ways I could contribute to the college. The hardest part of my job is that the positions I hold are/were only term positions; therefore, limiting the security of a full time position. My most enjoyable part of both positions are my team members who are/were very supportive, fun and accepting. Another enjoyable part is being able to deal with students on a daily basis. Being very friendly and outgoing person I am this is a great place to work.

I love working and doing what I do with the NSCC for the students and my boss she is amazing and great to work for. An outline in what I do in the learning center:

•Books the exam bookings over the phone or students come into the Learning Center using Enfosilem Software, Pearson Admissions Manager Software, and IVTVision software.
•Ensures the student taking the exam is identified by checking photo identification. 
•Maintains confidentiality and security of all testing materials, test logs, and other test documents.
•Prepares the examination room and test materials before examinees arrive.
•Vigilant – pays close attention to cheating and/or prevention of cheating on the video cameras in the testing room.
•Works with students who have needs of special accommodations, including but not limited to reading tests, scribing test, or providing a special testing climate.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The freedom to run my program as long asI covered the complete curriculum 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Before I was employed at NSCC I was an Operations Super at the largest Power Plant in the province. After that, stress levels at NSCC were almost non-existent

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Helpful and accommodating. The other Instructors were always ready to help out with Steam Lab repairs and sharing their expertise with my students

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Interaction with students in the classroom and the lab

My job was constantly changing which required adaptability.  The College offered courses and programs that enhanced my personal and professional growth and taught me how to better support adult learners. The management recognized my professional goals and supported my desire to go back to school and obtain my master degree. The workplace culture at my campus was wonderful and I loved going to work everyday. I enjoyed working with excellent staff and faculty and helping students achieve their educational goals.

Would love to work at an organization like NSCC .... great sense of community.  The only part I didn't think was fair was that I done the role of ES Advisor for four years (two different campuses)...and had gone through a formal competiton ...  but was unable to get a full time continuing ES Advisor on three different occasions.  I do not understand why the College would want to hire someone with no experience over someone who has the experience and knows the policies and procedures.

NSCC is a great employer who enabled me to meet my career and individual  development goals. There is a friendly work environment and the management are quite supportive to its staff. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to work in a workplace that gives one an opportunity to become their best, collaborates with staff for the best action plans and values the input of employees in decision-making. I am proud to be associated with NSCC. 

It’s a well paying and stable employer if you are in the right role for your qualifications. Staff are generally friendly and supportive. It’s a highly sought College so there’s always something new to learn to keep the students engaged and satisfied. They really care about students and have very dedicated faculty. The union is solid and respected. The benefits are good.

Every day offered new learning experiences.
I personally had a good relationship ship with the management and 
my co-worker teams in the various campuses.
Most difficult part of the jobs is/was not being able to engage students to ensure their success.
Most enjoyable part is to hear from those who have gone on and achieved their ultimate goals.

Over the past number of years working in education has been a wonderful experience. I have always enjoyed showing people have things work and go together. Safety has always been number one in my work career and I have been a active employee to promote a culture of safety in the work place. In my role as a manager for the past 19 years safety is a major part on my daily duties ensuring the safety of students and staff.

I found that we as teachers often had to concentrate on helping students improve their reading capacity, which had us be prepared to decrease the number of textbook chapters and help them be able to complete courses like chemistry, biology, and physics by completing more chapters during the terms after the first term.I enjoyed taking the courses on how to prepare and help students learn.
