Pethealth Inc.

I've worked here for over a year now and I love it.

Its fast paced, and if you're not good at multi-tadking and prioritizing then this wouldn't be a good fit for you. I often work extra hours without pay but I don't really mind as I like my job! 

The pay/benefits are good - raises are performance based so if you excel it is recognized, free or discounted pet insurance, three weeks vacation, most stat holidays off, weekends off.

There is free tea and coffee with milk/cream provided, free fruit delivered weekly (get there early, it goes fast), an air hockey and a foosball table upstairs, inter-department competitions (holiday desk decorating, ugly sweater, Halloween costume), travel competitions for most departments (previous years trips included a cruise and a beach vacation) a great Christmas party, and an active social committee that arranges events regularly. 

Most lower level management is good and knows what they're doing. Senior management (including our down to earth and hilarious CEO) are approachable and friendly, and if you have ideas they genuinely want to hear them.

Overall an excellent place to work for people with a strong work ethic looking for a fun and rewarding environment.

Unfortunately seniority means nothing at this company. You can work overtime & long hours as much as you like (and they'll ask you to do this a lot because every department is short staffed) but you will never get ahead unless management decides they like you ... and good luck with that. This company could do great things but management needs an overhaul. 

Despite talk of advancement in the company, you only get ahead if you suck up to Management. Membership/Customer Care agents are expected to take on Lost Pet calls even when swamped with their own work. Shift Bid is extremely stressful and does not reward senior agents. Once you are stuck with a late shift, you are most likely staying there.

Think long and hard before you apply. There is NO work life balance. Your schedule changes every 8 weeks and you only get to pick based on your call score for the month. So if you have a low call score you will most likely get a horrible shift. The pay is definitely not up to par with the type/amount of work you do. Management is horrible. They are not flexible or understanding. If you’re planning on booking a vacation or time off...good luck. Chances are it will get denied. This company is full of empty promises. They try to cover it up by providing a nice coffee maker in the kitchen and fresh fruit. If you want to advance anywhere in this company you will have to be willing to work insanely hard for it. If you have to make up any time missed on a shift you DO NOT get to choose when you make it up. They do. If you need accommodations (for medical reasons) it’ll take months to get the assessment done and even then they can deny you. Honestly I would highly recommend you not apply. You will be miserable, stressed, exhausted, and under valued.

I worked there for a little more than 4 years in the CCU.  Management was terrible. They would do a shift bid which was terrible and didn’t care if you were there 4 years or 4 days. Tenure means nothing to them.  Your “coaching” if you wanna call it that was “do better”. When you asked how you were hit with “I don’t know. Just do better”. Policies and procedures would change weekly. Your QA was 4 months behind and you were marked down if you didn’t follow last weeks new changes 4 months ago. You’ll never move anywhere despite them telling you otherwise.  Favourites are played and unless you brown nose the whole time you get the worst treatment. They Pay you “salary”. But put their own spin on it. If miss a day cause of illness you lose the hours, of you stay late or do overtime you don’t see another dime. They make you work every holiday despite their US employees get them off. They don’t pay 1.5 time on holidays cause they don’t feel like it. Pretty sure that violates labour laws. After 4 years they fired me and the excuse they gave was “you tried to save a customer by offer a 5% discount”. This is the worst place to work I’ve ever seen. Avoid at all costs

I was in the Vet Tech field for about 6 years and started to feel the burnout. It was a relief to come work for Pethealth and have a change of pace. 
I have set hours each day where I go in, process claims-and soon underwrite- and then I go home and enjoy my personal life without worry or stress. They are adamant from day 1 that when you leave work, they want you to focus on your life. They believe in fun and enjoying your job before anything else. I even work from home a few days a week now which is the biggest blessing. 
The team looks out for each other and are always there to answer questions should you have any. They're all amazing people and I count myself so lucky to be apart of this team. 
The hardest part of my job is we do process French claims which I do not speak. It is not a requirement to speak French to work in claims which is nice but handwritten French claims can be a bit of a challenge sometimes.
This job has so much to offer that the Vet Tech field couldn't and I am happy to say that I enjoy going to work again.

Started off this job excited for the work culture, however, it quickly became draining and difficult with work/life balance. From the start, favoritism between the supervisors and call centre agents was beyond prominent. The non-favourites would be on the phones their whole shift, while favourites always got time off to do other tasks. Your shift is picked through shift bid, so if your sales fall short or you call scores do (which are scored ridiculously), you will get an evening or weekend shift, or both. Senority means nothing there and it was disheartening to watch the company changes and layoffs throughout the years. The way things were managed made it incredibly difficult to fund motivation to login, knowing it would be chaotic the whole day.

They have a very high turnover rate. They fire staff before their annual reviews yo avoid paying raises. They have group layoffs quite often in all departments. They say they will pay for you to continue your education but will fire you the day after your exam to avoid paying for that too. No job security.  
Upon signing your new staff contract read the fine print, you're signing away your legal right to severance upon being let go or quitting. 
Atmosphere is hectic and stressful, more often the staff are under trained and misinformed making customers very frustrated. 
They are not flexible with hours and do not provide a decent work life balance. 
Management say they're people oriented but with such frequent mass layoffs you have to wonder how they can keep saying that.

As an animal lover I love that I get to work for a company with a vision of helping fur babies live longer healthier lives. My career at Pethealth marries my profession and what I am good at with my own personal values. The managers, coworkers and the team I work on have all been very welcoming and collaborative.  Management encourages and practices work/life balance. Good benefits and my fur baby is also included with them; getting FREE company paid pet insurance! 

Was orally hired over the phone, said I would get the written offer of employment in my email in a day or two - fast forward 2.5 weeks, never came in my email. During those weeks I had to call, and email, to be updated as to what was going on; constantly reassured that it would be in my inbox soon. I had to keep reaching out and just kept getting excuses as to why the written offer was not sent to me. Finally I emailed to reject any offer and was told they were very sorry to hear that and again was given a bunch of excuses as to why it had not come. No responsibility was taken on their part, I felt like I was doing the woman’s job in having to keep getting updates instead of her updating me on why it was taking so long. Also - only part time work, very little hours, not worth it.

My role at Pethealth has let me be creative and work outside of strict boundaries. As a growing company, things are constantly evolving - can be a good or bad thing depending on your style of work. Because the company is still relatively small, you can get involved in a lot of different things. It's busy - sometimes too much so - but with busy comes excitement and challenge.

This company has some amazing people. Even with the challenge and busy days, we still have a ton of fun! Most of us are huge animal lovers and of course it's great to be a part of a company that does such great things for the animal welfare sector.
