The River Cree Resort and Casino really is a unique and enriched working environment. 

Front line employees develop a strong sense of camaraderie and community very easily and across departments; this unity served to enhance the customer experience and made for a positive working atmosphere.

A Tuesday day and Friday night are as different as Jekyll and Hyde. Due to this dichotomous attribute of the Casino industry, there are seemingly double the opportunities and challenges to overcome during your journey of professional growth. 

Although the resort is one property there are 4 distinct working environments with their own, separate, demands. Casino, Hotel, Arena and Exterior. This can be a Mecca for anyone looking to enter the field of Security as a means of gaining valuable experience toward a career in Law enforcement. The Security team is well equipped and has the support of all other operating departments and managing entities. This makes for a fun, challenging and immersive work environment that will give you as much as you put into it. 

At the Management level, there are some growing pains that are to be expected due to the recent management switch-over, economic conditions and ongoing projects.

Customers were fun and interesting. 
Supervision under management tried their best but are very under appreciated. They tried to help the restaurant and employees.
Management is unqualified and dysfunctional. They say one thing on day and something totally different the next. 
They often let things slide on the cleanliness scale. Would never recommend any type of fruit from the bar. 
Very bad fruit flies, food safe handling should be taken by every employee in front of house (but isn’t)
The bar always stinks, lots of complaints. 
Management and HR are quick to get rid of people rather than face problems and get to a resolution. 
The casino is owned by Enoch, why aren’t they employing their own to take these management positions? 
Often times employees within the casino would get mad at long wait times of service but fail to see that guests are prioritized. (Back to management on that one, were told guests come first but get in trouble once employees make a fuss about service)

Been working here for many years, the work environment is incredibly toxic and that is  just in my department. Don't expect any commendation or rewards for your hard work, experience, and effort. Some of the patrons can be incredibly difficult to encounter such as members from Enoch. The turnover rate is extremely high where you see new faces in every department every single week. The people they end up hiring cannot last longer then a month either. The pay is not great either where you make around minimum wage and expected to stand on your feet for 7 plus hours every shift. Not only that but management at all levels  can be poor. No leadership, compassion, empathy, or morale is given to employees here.

My typical day at work would be, to get my float, get cashed into my till, make sure lottery sales are balanced, make sure food and beverages are fully stocked, clean up any mess or misplacement of merchandise, and wait patiently for customers to come in. I would greet them, and try to engage in a conversation with them and be a helpful as possible with whatever they needed. My co-workers where very nice and fun people, I enjoyed going to work because we always made it fun so the hours would go by fast, but also attending to our responsibilities. What I really loved about my job was meeting new people everyday and having the regulars come in for a visit and a conversation, I also love a challenge so having to memorize how to sell lottery tickets, and work the cash register was very fun for me, personally. I like being busy all the time and having my hands full, so I always found something to do when there was no customers in the store.

I have many years of Security experience in all types of settings.  River Cree has by far the best job culture that I have ever encountered.  I was greeted warmly on my first day and treated like a valued member of the team from my very first shift.  Very uncommon to see that in the industry.  Rules are strict but fair.  Expectations are given from the outset.  Promises that are given are lived up too.  Casino security is very structured in order to protect people and money so freedom during shift is minimal.  However, the management try to make the job as enjoyable as possible given the limitations.  You will make friends here because of the positive culture and the friendliness of the staff.  You will have opportunity for overtime and you will work hard and be tired at the end of the day.  Other security jobs pay better, but none have a positive culture as this one does.

It is very fast paced/ hectic on busy nights, if you can make it through a friday/saturday in the fall you can make it through any other night. Very good benefits but the pay is lacking for the work you are expected to do. For the most part you get to work with friendly staff if they speak the same language as you. You learn how to prioritize effectively and work fast. Everyday there is multiple duties to be done from prepping food for tomorrow's specials or working on line preparing food for guests in the restaurant. I enjoy cooking food and having confidence in what I do but everything you are exposed to is a little much for me (smoking allowed inside casino, smoke from deep friers, ovens, stoves, toasters) if they offered a better wage I think most people could deal with these issues but it is not enough for me.

Needing hours & or rotational schedules late night shifts 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is what it is… flip through a lot of staff - not place to presume moving up options and if not from Enoch.  Just how it goes… 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Jobs aren’t hard they are basic routine at entry levels - customers friendly as get to know regulars - moral isn’t at highest when staff changes - not managers fault its what comes with minimum wage positions & politics …

I don't recommend working here unless you're Enoch. Poor and unorganized management. They say they have numerous coaching steps but they only apply to the band members and if you're not, chances are you get fired in a snap, especially during probation. They don't seem to care about the employee's turnover rate, who they hire and who they let go.
Scheduling is a mess; there could be no notice on your next shift and sometimes you have to go through 3d parties to find out when your next shift is. 
A lot of micromanagement and policing of hearsay. Too much politics overall. Good for part-time, but too pressuring to be there full-time; no security/reliability.

I worked in the hotel portion as a manager.  No formal training, no mentorship or guidance, very catty, lots of gossip.  It was a toxic environment.  The old employees from Marriott were very rude, and very much to themselves.  

In regards to cultural training I found that I knew more than those that were speaking about the it. Felt there was a lot that left out on it that should have been spoken on but was not. 

When I gave my two weeks noticed, I was thanked for giving my noticed and that they appreciated me giving that much notice. Next day I was treated poorly all day and by end of day had them come into my office and told me I was dismissed.  I was watched while I cleaned out my desk and than walked out.

average work day, long and stressful but what kitchen isn't. 
I learned how to close and run the back of house line on my own and learned various techniques on how to cook, fast, efficient, and delicious food. The jr. sou chef was an amazing mentor, taught me quiet a few things of the kitchen lifestyle and life itself. management was all over the place for the year i have worked there probably seen at least 6 managers. hardest part of the job was the stress of producing the best quility of food in a short amount of time. most enjoyable part was knowing the line and teaching others, as well as working as a team.
