A typical day at work involves answering phone calls and assisting walk ins with there travel needs. They may not know what they want initially, but with the help of a travel agent, we do our best to create the experience they are looking for. 
The hardest part of the job is that you are dealing with the public, people want the best for the best for the cheapest and you really have to have a backbone. 
The salary is low and there is commission. However over a period of time with the company, unless you can reach your overall year goal, the commission is not there. 
If you a passionate employee and build your clientele over a period of time, you could be very successful.

I worked as a travel agent. The upper management was the worst I have ever experienced. They manage by fear and intimidation. They pay was extremely low but the stress was over the top high. During covid, the upper management all but hid from the chaos while the agents took all the frustration and abuse from the clients. They didn’t care about the clients or staff. They took all our benefits and commissions away even when other agencies were still paying out. They broke HR and provincial employment rules to try and save money. I got PTSD from working there and I was one of the top agents!

You are expected to hit sales targets but can never achieve them because you spend 90% of your day dealing with customer issues and problems. Management has their favorites. You have to work lots of weekends and evenings.  There is literally no work life balance here.  It's also very stressful dealing with irate customers and Management,  who only care about sales and Google Reviews 

Typical work day involved taking calls and dealing with clients face to face.
Management takes too long to address employee concerns and does not listen to suggestions to improve. 
Instead of doing proper marketing, they expect agents to marketing with sub-standard products.

Lots of travel perks, great management, clients are always happy booking trips, good comradarie between agents. Need a lot of attention to detail & a travel base of knowledge.  Changes are always happening but for the better.  Easy invoicing software. Salary plus commission. Achievable sales targets.

on a typical day, attending all clients travel needs required by phone or people who came to the office, I enjoyed talking with the clients of different places in the world to travel, I felt very well when I close sales or clients returned  to my desk or phone calls, that is my passion.

The hours were long and no extra time was paid.

Overall if you love travel, this is the job for you!

Working as a travel consultant in a front store is like working in a call centre. There is a lot of Micro Management . The salary and commission structure is not favorable.

I enjoy the freedom to sell any product available to Canadians.
I love to travel and the perks are great to have.
I work with a great team in my branch.
