St. Georges Golf and Country Club

I worked on St. Georges Greens Crew.

Be prepared to walk a LOT. Make sure your shoes are comfortable, and that you either can nap well, or go to bed early. Start time is 6:00am weekdays, 5:30am weekends. You don't work both days, however you have to work one, so that will effect your social life. 

The work itself isn't too hard, but it's not super easy. Line-trimming for hours will leave your arms wrecked. Also, you will have awful tan-lines from working outside in the uniform. 

Hours are pretty solid - I worked consistently 40 hour weeks. Going for OT though is almost impossible - management does not like you getting those bonus bucks. 

Other employees made it. The crew is about 40-50 people big. A quarter are older gentlemen, a quarter are supervisors, mangement, who work on the golf course full time all year. The latter half is younger college/high school aged people, which keeps it lively and fun.

If you want to work at St. George's prepare to work long and miserable hours, be talked down to by management, be treated like an animal and be paid a meagre salary. Pay is deducted for food and breaks for every shift when half of the time you don't get a break or food. Management promised tips this season to rope employees in and tips were not given so experienced servers worked extremely hard for basically nothing. The members are rude and the managers discipline staff like their children. The environment is toxic, the only reason the employees stay is because the other employees are amazing and all in the same boat. 

High stress serving position for no tips. You get higher than serving wage or minimum, but you can make so much more at other restaurants with tips. If you are looking to advance in your career in hospitality however, it would be a great place to work your way up, inside promotion is common. This job also looks amazing on a resume to any other restaurant so it would be beneficial in that regard. Overall, not the best place to work, but not the worst either, depends on what you are looking for. 

Forget about having a life. No communication between management and staff, staff meal is awful only fries everyday and they expect the minimum hours you should be there are 10-12hrs. You will have to be a server, banquet server, porter, bartender and housekeeping at the same time for only $15-$16 per hour. No ending time so you will never know at what time you are able to go home. I have to say I learned how to serve in here but it just became a toxic environment to work due to the extensive hours and horrible management.

In general, this was a good place to work. However, the pettiness and infighting by legacy employees desperately trying to hang on to a job because they are ill-suited to make it anywhere else is stifling! Management does nothing about their atrocious behaviour because “the members like him”. And so it goes: good people come and go, and these few bad apples continue to work there long term. 

Unorganized management makes work life so much harder and stressful for no reason. Lots of talk like they know what they’re doing but really they don’t. Work environment is too toxic, the moment you make one mistake, it spreads like wildfire. It feels more like I’m back in high school than an actual job.

Don’t waste your time, they’ll try to sell the job to you as best they can because they need you more than you need them!

It was the most perfect job before new management came in. New management pick and chose favourites and got rid of anyone she didn’t like. A lot of people also quit after new management came in, including the person who hired them. The supervisors, assistant manager, and the rest of the St. G’s staff are good to work with. One person just ruined it.

Pay is very low for the amount of work you’re doing, and considering how expensive the course is you would think they could afford to pay there staff better. The hours are pretty bad but only because you have to wake up very early. The job also separates men and women which seems quite unfair to me.

I worked here for the summer and it was great. It was tough to get used to the early mornings, but I am definitely a morning person now! It is great watching the sunrise every day.
The work environment is very easy going and easy to get along with.
Hopefully I will be back next season!
