A typical day at work involves helping my boss complete marketing tasks such as social media updates and clientele expectations (ie. research, sending out documents etc.) Also, I was involved in the event planning of the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival. Therefore, there were interviews with many bands as well as helping with the on-site execution at the Festival itself. I managed branding and advertising on-site. The co-workers were very friendly. However, the hardest part of the job were the long hours (9 AM - 5 PM non stop) with one hour lunch break as well as a lot of organizational tasks. The most enjoyable was being apart of the music industry here in Montreal, Quebec.

Typical day at work as the morning show host would have been 4am wake up and finish you day at about 3pm. 

I learned a lot of communication skills with an audience that isn't right in front of you. 

Management is really great and supportive. They are always a phone call away if you have any questions or concerns. 

Hardest part of the job would probably just be the beginning and having to adapt to the early morning and they being able to sound happy happy at 5am. 

my favorite part of this job, well over all radio is so much fun. My favorite part was being that voice for people when they first wake up, being that person that wants their engagement etc. Its a lot of fun because sometimes people actually have no idea who you are behind the microphone!

Lots of nice people I met at lower levels, and they don't stick around. Big turn around rate. Structurally the company is in arrested development. No pension, no special "benefits" other than booze at parties. They avoided an HR for 7 years from founding, only getting one when necessary to go public on the Stock Exchange. Managers are picked at random and lack maturity, fairness, and expertise. "Fake it 'til they make it" types who listen only to higher-ups. The CEO is a real oddball, loves doing press but remembers almost no one working there. Lastly, it pays peanuts. But I made a few friends.

I was hired on as a Brand Ambassador for New Country 93.5. I was lead to believe I would be working at concerts across the GTA, attending shows to capture content and represent the radio station. However, in reality I was being sent to food festivals and non-musical events. Overall I was pretty disappointed with the work, I felt more like a vendor than a brand ambassador. I'd recommend this job for students and those who are desperate only. Disappointed with the management as well and lack of consistent communication. Also for the amount of work and responsibility we were being underpaid. Avoid this job, there are better opportunities to work in the music industry. 

I've worked for Stingray (was Newcap) for 10+ years.  The different divisions of Stingray are treated differently.  It's been harder since multiple layoffs, but the employees left are almost all wonderful.  A lot can be asked of you at points, lower level workers can feel alienated from corporate management, and there aren't always enough bodies on hand to complete a task in an ideal manner.  However, the local teams are pretty excellent.  I feel supported by my immediate team and have the freedom to execute my tasks as I like.  Not for everyone, but works for me.  

What is the best part of working at the company?
The ability to work my ‘own’ hours, I was able to go to appointments with more ease if I needed.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The pressure to make sales. They say they don’t want you to be a pushy car salesman but that’s what they essentially want it to come down to. Even if a customer doesn’t want to buy any radio ads at that time

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
My direct manager was toxic, but upper management was ok.

I open my inbox and on days where there is work I find a message from the subtitling team coordinator detailing the length, type of video, and deadline for the assignement. I can either accept or refuse the contracts. I mostly always accept them because they are fun to do (music videos/concerts/documentaries). I work from home. It's important to be very focussed while doing these, because of the fact that it is being done for the deaf and hard of hearing. Their enjoyement of music counts too!

this place.... they don't really do anything besides buy up content like music videos and pump it through stores or people's tv's. it's not a "music company" any more than best buy is a "music company". there are clear favorites here and lots of favoritism not based on skill but more like who's friends with who. a lot of kids working here (early 20s), for dirt wage, not knowing any better. they certainly woo visitors but the long run is grim for this glorified start-up.

They are not perfect, but working at Stingray has lots of perks.
I learned a lot in the time that I was there, you can have English classes paid by the company, Yoga also free and breakfast and snacks as well.
I reported to different managers, 2 out of 3 were good.
In terms of career advancement it really depends on who you know and not what you do.

Overall, stingray is a good company. My department is fun, my managers are understanding. Salary is very lacklustre, especially starting. It is an industry wide issue but disappointing nonetheless. I often feel that I can complete all my work in much less time than I am required to be at work, but that is common with many desk jobs.
