Success Tutorial School (STS) recruits teachers who are passionate in teaching.  The teaching position at STS offers teaching experience to those who are already OCT or teacher-to-be. As a current English Teacher who teaches Grade 5-12 English Language, I find it meaningful working at the school. The curriculum is well-developed, which covers grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and English Literature i.e. the work of William Shakespeare. Students are engaged in both individual and  collaborative work, from which they finish the assigned work in class while learning from their peers. We give constructive feedback to students so they can improve and do better.  Colleagues working in STS are all passionate, inspirational and motivative. I always get support and guidance from the principal, education coordinator, and other teachers. Overall, it's a friendly working environment and I enjoyed teaching at STS.

A typical day working at STS as a math teacher starts outside of the classroom with marking homework and planning lessons. When the class starts, my role as a teacher began with administration then proctoring a weekly quiz. Following the quiz, the rest of the two hours is spent teaching the lesson with a 10 minute break in between. During the break, I was responsible for marking the quizzes and updating the student record cards. I learned time management while working here, as I found myself pressed for time while balancing two different lessons in a split class and only having a short amount of time to mark the quizzes and update the cards. The workplace culture is overall positive, with frequent support from supervisors and the front desk. The hardest part of the job was the preparation. Teachers are responsible for creating their own lesson plans with the homework to base it on.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the impact I had on my students. Through the program, many students ended up showing improvement in their ability to understand mathematics.

I started at Success Tutorial School in 1999 as a student because I liked their teaching style. They had relatively small class sizes and a consistent educator to teach the lessons. I became a teacher in 2009 after seeing how competitive they are in the tutoring business. They adapt to changes in the Ontario Curriculum and provide relevant course material already prepared for you to teach. Solutions are given to you so all you need to do is mark! The administrative team is supportive and quick to respond when you need to deal with student issues. Class times and days are flexible based on your schedule so you can always pick up more classes. During my tenure, I also worked as a supervisor and saw how immersed the owners are in this business. They constantly follow up and devise of ways for student, parent, and teacher satisfaction. It's a great start for those who are becoming teachers or those who are already in the profession. There's flexibility for you to implement your own classroom management and activities, as long as you are able to cover the content provided by the school first. 

Management was terrible and support for the teaching staff was lacking.
1. Preparing lessons and grading homework often required extra hours beyond the scheduled work time, which were not compensated. When I inquired about sick leave, I was advised to avoid getting sick, highlighting a lack of support for employee wellbeing.
2. The policies regarding classroom management were problematic. For example, while noise levels from one room can travel to another, tutors are not allowed to close classroom doors, which can disrupt the learning environment.
3. During the hiring process, I was informed that teaching materials would be provided. In reality, only homework was supplied, and I found myself needing to create my own materials for effective teaching.
4. Grading student homework was a weekly task that involved reviewing numerous pages without an answer key even for assignments with clear answers.

The staff and supervisors are incredibly supportive, creating a positive and welcoming work environment. They are always approachable and willing to provide guidance, which makes teaching at STS both enjoyable and fulfilling.

One of the best aspects of working here is the opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience. The supervisor shares useful teaching strategies, which have helped me improve my instructional skills and classroom management. The structured curriculum and small class sizes also allow for more personalized student support, making the teaching process smooth and effective.

Overall, STS is a great place for educators who want to develop their teaching skills in a supportive and professional environment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for meaningful teaching experience.

STS is a great place to build teaching and classroom management skills and strategies for new teachers. Not only do you get to build strong relationships with your students in a smaller classroom setting, but you also get to see the students succeed and improve over time. The management and staff are friendly and understanding, and are always open to offering support by email or on-site. There is a lot of marking, but it helps you develop strategies to become more efficient. When starting out, it can be difficult to balance delivering lessons and marking, but overtime, classes run much more smoothly. Overall, STS is a valuable and supportive environment for new teachers to grow professionally and gain confidence in both instruction and classroom management!

I have had great pleasure of working at Success Tutorial School (STS) for the past 10 years. It has been one of the most rewarding experience of my career and the foundation that shaped me into the educator I am today.
The Chief-Coordiantor has been exceptional, which creates a motivating and nurturing atmosphere where everyone thrives. She is open to new ideas, ensuring that the teaching methods and materials stay current and aligned with Ontario's curriculum. As a French teacher, I had the pleasure of working alongside a dedicated and professional group of educators who are committed to student success.
I look forward to seeing the school continue to grow and inspire future generations of learners.

I have had a very positive experience working at STS. Management is supportive and understanding, which creates a comfortable and encouraging work environment.

The workload is reasonable and well-managed, so the job does not feel overwhelming or overly stressful. Especially at the beginning, when I was still learning and adjusting to the role, I often reached out to colleagues with questions. They were always patient, willing to help, and never made me feel like a burden. Instead, they kindly guided me and reminded me when needed. Expectations are clear, and tasks are organized in a way that allows work to be done efficiently.

Overall, the team culture is supportive and collaborative, and it is a pleasant place to work.
