A very supportive management structure, thourally enjoyed working with other managers and supportive directors.The departmental structure has changed and roles have changed reflecting organizational growth.
My challange was working with 50% of available staff, attempting to keep budget within its alloted lines, recruiting and maintaining staffing ratios. I also enjoyed responding to patients and families concerns, overcoming the barriers and building lasting relationships within the community.
The most enjoyable part of the job was working under a very supportive director, working with other managers, craeting greatest nursing teams on the units and the most missunderstood part about Surry Memorial Hospital, that all staff and departments were exceptionally caring and supportive people.

A typical work day for me, was working in the family birthing unit. Not only did you get to clean all the rooms of people with the cutest brand new babies, the nurses, care-aids and even fellow housekeepers were really great to work with. I learned everything from how to clean things properly, sanitize, proper way to use PPE gear, to learning a little about sicknesses and illnesses as well. My management was pretty great, Was pretty good when I needed extra time off for family visiting, or moving. The hardest part was moving away. I would have to say the most enjoyable part was seeing patients get better, and just knowing that what you were doing was a huge help to everyone who was apart of the hospital.

Usually day shifts are very busy, mostly scheduled C-sections are in the morning. At nights, it can be very busy too depending on the patients condition but usually not as busy as the day shift.

I've been very lucky with my co-workers they've been very supportive and helpful to me since I'm new in the unit.

I can say the hardest part of the job is that whenever there are lots of C-section because you have to move so quickly but efficiently.

The enjoyable part of the job is after you finish the shift and you know you did your best to do your job and nothing went wrong and you don't have to worry about anything about work when you get home.

I work in the Emergency Department. My day can be very fast paced and erratic.
Anyhow, working in such conditions has taught me well how to work in a fast paced environment. Working in a hospital setting has also taught me how to individualize my time with each patient in a very kind and focused matter.
Working at Surrey Memorial hospital is a very kind but busy atmosphere. I feel very comfortable and happy working here.
The hardest part of working in a hospital sometimes can be seeing patients suffer in pain or seeing their loved ones in sickness.
However, the most enjoyable part of the job is getting to work closely with the public and being able to bring a smile on peoples faces.

I am happy to work with this fantastic team and grateful for opportunities to grow. The team really supports each other and you got your back covered during a chaotic and stressful moments. I learned so much and it is fulfilling to work  with the team and kiddos.

The hardest part for me is actually seeing some unfortunate cases. I am yet to be able to detach myself from a unsuccessful resuscitation or witness the impact on the family who had newly diagnosed/life-changing illness. It does take a certain type of personality to work here.

The only thing I complain is for the upper management. No code 10 for casual. No active solution to match up the increasing patient volume.

The only people valued are those who fit into a certain group.  If you are willing to sell your soul to get ahead you will.  If you are an honest, hard worker you will get nowhere and will constantly be getting pushed to do more so others can surf the net and chat all day. When you stop being a doormat they will find a way to make your life  at work unbearable.  It was not always this way but New Wave Management strategies are such that they hire unqualified people at a lower rate who do nothing but pass the buck to those who can do the job while they sit in on video chats all day.

 very fast paced and tiring. No reward or anything for hardwork. People often backstab you but nice in person (usually the hardly working people). You are just a number and easily replaceable. If you are looking for a permanent job, this isn’t for you as it is a seniors game (3000 hours minimum or line/benefits in order to compete for a permanent line or get a schedule). Not to mention, they hire people with 15,000+ hours from different departments that have no experience and they are awarded the permanent line that are posted within an hour (really impossible to get a line). Furthermore, lack of management support (needs a deticated/ stand-alone manager)

As I am a new volunteer at Surrey Memorial, I find the staff and other volunteers very friendly and easy to approach with any questions I have. On a daily, I am learning new things about the hospital and recognizing regular patients as well. The hardest part of volunteering is when you see patients or guests that are in a vulnerable state because they are sick/ ave loved ones in the hospital that they are worried about. My preceptorship at Surrey Memorial Hospital was my most memorable clinical experience to date. I got to take charge and initiative and truly be a full scope Practical Nurse. I took on a full patient load, usually 4-5 patients, and provided care including medication administration and teaching, pain management, wound care, ostomy care, cather insertion and care, tube feeding, documentation, clinical policies and procedures, working with the interdisciplinary team to collaborate on patient care, and advocating for my patient.

Corporate culture is horrifying.  They treat people like garbage -- do not work here.  They go on about a so called respectful workplace, but it is only top-down (no one respects the "little" people like the clerks, housekeepers, porters, cafeteria staff, etc.).  If you're not a doctor or a nurse, you are nothing and don't bother complaining - for all the money you pay in union dues, the HEU is powerless and does nothing for you (they don't even respect confidentiality - will tell management everything you've told them in confidence)!  Don't do it!
