Swim Clo Aquatics and Fitness

My role within Swim Fins is an office assistant, personal assistant and customer service representative, all rolled up into one! My role as an office assistant is mostly related to the running of the business. I spend a lot of my day registering and scheduling kids into our classes, responding to client queries, processing equipment orders and keeping accurate inventory of merchandise at the pools. I am also the office’s ‘tech guru’ so I’m always on-call if anything goes wrong with technology, coming up with ways to help us work more efficiently.

As a personal assistant, my job is to make Clo, our super busy owner’s life easier. I book appointments, put in orders and research trips away or potential business ideas. Occasionally, I help out with Clo’s son, assisting him with schoolwork in the mornings. All the while, I’m keeping Clo in the loop, working as a two-woman team on managing her personal life!
 
My day consists of arriving at the office and checking my checklists to see what is in store for the day. Our tasks are organized in terms of priority, so it is easy to plan your days out. Depending on the season, most of my work could be business-related as classes fill up. At other times, I could have loads of variety, which is what I love about the job! I never spend my days watching the clock, time just flies by!
 
The office environment is super positive and supportive. Everyone tries their best to always accommodate each other’s needs and help out when they can. Clo genuinely cares about your growth as a person and an employee, frequently checking in with everyone. Although our days get busy, we always find the time to have a chat and a laugh! This small, supportive team makes it very easy to come into work every day! 

My job is to ensure the everyday operations of the swim school run smoothly here at Swim Fins! The Director of Operations is mainly organisational as I communicate with coaches and the other admin staff members, relaying relevant information and delegating tasks. I am in constant contact with our owner Clo as we work together to keep the business running, dealing with any unforeseen situations along the way. Our aim is to make sure everything is good to go before it even happens and we have a prepared solution for almost any situation in case things do not go to plan. 

Being a small business means that we are constantly learning what works well and what we should change or improve. This is why it is very important for me to document all processes we have in place as we go, so we can look back and repeat things that work and change things that do not. 

The great thing about my job is that no 2 days are the same. Sometimes I have a plan in my head of what I would like to get done in a day, but then have to adapt when an emergency crops up that needs urgent attention. You must be flexible when working in the world of business! 

Pro: Ideas I bring to the table are seriously considered and listened to as we try to expand the swim school.
Con: There are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything you want to do! 

My advice for someone joining the Swim Fins team would be not to take things too seriously. We are a fun-loving team with a ‘work-hard play-hard’ attitude. The office is casual and comfortable so always be upfront and honest with your co-workers as they are always there to help!

I work as the owner of the company, Clo’s,  personal assistant. My job is to ensure her busy working day runs as smoothly as possible. We usually do this as a team as I am in frequent contact with her, updating her on tasks she has given me throughout the week, ensuring that she is able to go from A to B seamlessly. As her assistant, I have to be able to adapt to her needs and ever changing schedule. There is rarely a fixed structure to my day so flexibility is very important!

The second half of my role is to carry out tasks and administrative duties for our growing business. I’m involved in scheduling classes, documenting procedures and bringing new business ideas and improvements to life! The great thing about working for a small business is that everyone’s ideas are always brought to the table and chatted through, with the team. 

Our work environment is busy but always friendly and good humoured. We always find the time to catch up with each other and have a laugh! We focus on learning together without dwelling on past mistakes. We’re casual, comfortable and ready for anything that could crop up in a given day! My advice to someone joining our team is; don’t take yourself too seriously. Laugh and learn from your mistakes and always be willing to improve your way of working. 


I learned a lot about small business management, social media management and working in a small team during my year and half-ish working with Swim Clo. I had ample opportunity to learn new skills, further develop existing ones, and there was always something to do, whether around the office or outside of it. The owner is a very fair and personable boss who takes their employee needs very seriously. She'll praise you often, but is also stern when necessary, using it as a valuable teaching opportunity. She takes care of her team - offering opportunities to work from home when needed, giving you food/drinks especially if you forgot your lunch, and continuing to support her staff during the covid pandemic. The Swim Clo team is awesome to work with, and you'll make some amazing life-long friends!

Swim Clo is amazing to work for! I've learned so much and brought my skills up to their expectations. I can't wait to come to work every day and see what tasks are waiting for me. 

The office is comfortable, there isn't a dress code, great hours, I listen to music all day long, and most importantly I feel accomplished in what I'm doing. We have reachable deadlines and have a clear understanding of what every person in the company is working towards. Our company is driven by fantastic leaders who strive for the best!

I've worked for this company for over 3 years and counting. I love being a part of a business that always strives to offer an excellent service! It is awesome being busy at work and not watching the clock. The team at Swim Clo aim to continuously grow and develop to do the best in the most efficient and effective ways. I'm on my grade 12 high school swim team as well as a volunteer at my local rec centre but who knew you could get paid to do this as well as make a difference in kids lives? 

The classes are small which leads to more practice time for them. We play games as well so it doesn't feel like a chore to learn to swim. The kids love it! 

If you have a passion for teaching or swimming, try this out. Swim Clo has been wonderful to work for and I plan on staying as long as I can!

My customer service and admin background has really helped me in this role. You have to be pretty organized, flexible, and able to multitask as we work really hard here. 

I love the fun projects I get to work on with our team. It's a super collaborative environment at Swim Clo. No two days look alike and it's always fun to come to work. 


I worked with Swim Clo when I was in high school and played/coached multiple sports and still had time for myself. I also was given the opportunity to return after taking a hiatus for university. 

As a first job, I could not have asked for a better job, this job gave me a positive impression of the working community in general. Everyone was welcoming since day one, it made getting used to working a job a lot easier. The locations and environments are very safe.
