In my personal experience, this was one of the worst companies I have worked for. I worked as an Accounts Payable Coordinator, and the workplace culture felt extremely toxic due to office politics, micromanagement, favoritism, and unfair treatment of employees.

The management style felt overly controlling, and there was constant micromanagement that created an unhealthy and stressful work environment. New employees and younger team members did not seem to receive meaningful opportunities to grow or develop professionally, and at times it felt like experience, ideas, and career progression were not genuinely encouraged.

The workplace culture often felt political, with bullying behavior and inconsistent treatment that made employees feel unsupported. Vacation scheduling appeared to depend heavily on management preference rather than fairness or employee needs, which created frustration and a sense of unfairness.

There was also pressure to work overtime, while concerns around compensation and work-life balance were frustrating. The level of stress in the environment felt excessive, and I observed colleagues becoming overwhelmed and emotionally drained over time, which raised concerns about employee wellbeing.

Overall, my experience was of a highly stressful, political, and unsupportive workplace that made it difficult to feel respected, motivated, or valued as an employee.

Local management awesome but they along with anyone under them are disposable!!! Upper management ie: Regional Hiring managers make promises reel you in and then deny making promises but yet admit the promises in email correspondence but still deny you what they promise. They use your skills and expect you to fulfill all of your promises but they don't have to ???? Basically my advice is if you want to bust your honey only to be treated like garbage by upper management that isn't even present then by all means go work for AFL. What kind of management doesn't even acknowledge a letter of resignation and the only reason I know mine was received by "upper management " is because I requested a read receipt, shows true colours of those in the position of power. Don't work for this company unless you want to work for $12.25 an hour !!!! Karma will come around and the ones that think they are untouchable will realize (hopefully) that you can only treat people like they are disposable for so long until Karma reminds you that YOU are disposable to!!! 
One final statement..... Thanks P.A. (ABFD office) your word is worth nothing, I can look at myself in the mirror and know that I fulfilled my end of the contract even though YOU didn't.

You are only a ‘number’ at AFL, when management thinks removing you will help their budget you are out. Poor communication at this company. No matter your position you are expendable. Management does not look at the big picture only the quick fix . During this surreal situation that is happening in out word right now, Covid 19, office staff were sent home but warehouse and home install technicians are left to face it on their own. Coming in close contact with hundreds of people every day from all walks of life. Not good management. Without these people, there are no bonus’s for management and they are substantial  yet these are the people who do not receive a yearly bonus on top of pathetic raises. When decisions are made that effect the daily routine of these essential employees, some are consulted, to make it seem like direct management is considering the impact to staff but In the end, final decisions are made by upper management without even a sliver of the suggestions made by staff showing.

I joined AFL during pandemic, prior to AFL, I’ve supported a broad range of organizations from Tech start-up to Crown Corporations, from Healthcare to Ship building manufacturer, I must say that I never seen leadership team like AFL working so hard building a strong, cohesive and trusted culture through caring, enabling and supporting their employees, I’m so grateful that I made the right decision to follow the leader who focus on building trust. 

Like any large/global company, there can be frustrations about management and the organizational system - getting anything to change is like trying to climb a tree with no hands.  But despite this all too common issue, AFL is a great place to work.  Even if things might not change easily, management and HR do care about their employees, and do their best to accommodate and work towards making things better.  They understand that employees are still people, and have lives outside of the job.  So long as you show your dedication to your work, and strive to accomplish tasks to the best of your ability, they are willing to be flexible and work with you to create a good work/life balance.

I will caveat this, however, to say this is from the perspective of an office worker, and I can't speak to the experience of field workers.  

After working for these guys for around 4.5 years I can say they were one of the worst company I've ever worked for. 

They do not treat their employees well, as a matter of fact, you're just a number for them. Typical American company that's only after the bottom line no matter how they get there.

They would let their clients steal money from us employees and no matter how we tried to let them know about it, upper management never listened to anyone but their precious bottom line.

The problem is 100% coming from upper management. Junior management could be the best but with upper management completely ignoring all of anyone's requests for better treatment.

I had to leave this poisonous work environment with hopes that I could find the one decent job where I can stay for the rest of my career. Definitly not these guys.

I started working for AFL a little while ago and found that they have changed soo much in the past year or two for the lower mainland. 

They have new management everywhere, new intense training, and huge advancement opportunities! Its a peace work job which I find awesome, because the more you work the more you make. There is always more jobs you can take if you want, so you could technically work 7 days a week if you want.

I can though the one thing which is lacking is the benefits. They state it being all great when you sign up, but the truth is its behind the times. I don't think they have upgraded their plan for the past 10+ years! It need a refresh. But saying that, it seems like everything is getting an overhaul right now.

Definitely exciting times to work for AFL!

They provide an long training period in which they give little to no training or support.  Only four weeks of ride along experience with experienced techs who are doing security install work,  meanwhile you have not been hired to do security. the good news is they have a TAC Program? it designed to assist you in the field when getting started, however, they never answer the phone, leaving you no choice but to call a manager, which always seem irritated that you bothered them they never do not offer assistance either. thus, leaving you unaided in a Customers home looking incompetent. It's non-union so they basically treat you like garbage.  Probably my worst job ever.

Training is terrible, Management is horrfic, Human resources doesn't pay wages. This company is absolutely mismanaged from the top down. They do things that are border line illegal to compensate their employees. 

Generally a good group of workers, however there are many who are cut throat and wont think twice to throw you under the bus if it gets them ahead of makes them more money. AFL has incentivized a culture of hostility and unhealthy competition between workers. 

This could just be a regional thing however I would go as far as putting much of the blame on the managers in Western Canada. 

Hostile workplace.

This company needs a UNION. 

Maybe then and only then will they treat their employees like people and not just dollar bills.
