Anglophone East School District

I worked my way up to supervisor, dealing with Facilities Management, School Administration, Public, Co-Workers. I was in charge of the school facilities, all building systems, building safety and compliance with both School and Fire Marshall regulation.

My Leadership role was that of cleaning staff supervisor. In charge of facilities, employees and grounds. Responsible to maintain production, stock of supplies, equipment and general public safety. For a time I served as Union Local vice President which duties included Union and Labour Management monthly meetings. 

Was also in charge of School District Gardening and Maintenance Crew. Running District van, hauling equipment trailer with 2-3 lawn tractors, weed wackers, fuel, tools and safety equipment. I was in charge of a crew of 3-4 people. Operated under extreme conditions, confined public areas. Operations consisted of district wide school maintenance of 30 + schools. 

Coordinating summer cleaning operations in summer to ready schools for fall was a challenge. Hot internal temperatures, with a limited time line, dealing with employee shortages as all employees took vacation during summer cleaning, while getting the school finished was both difficult and challenging, but a great team-building opportunity.

Out of the box thinking, problem solving, organisational skills and inter personal skills as a supervisor were crucial. As difficult as the job could be, I excelled at it and managed to build a great team where we met all standards and surpassed them as well.

The staff Is always helpful, team players, always willing to help when needed and the resource team are great to talk to always 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with the clients are sometimes stressful but there are tools provided that help is always around the corner

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
We are a working team, or I was before retiring and moving out west, we are providing a learning environment where we are all treated equally.  No matter of peoples race, religion, or politics. 
We are at work to do a job, and do it well

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work, laugh, be pleasant and enjoy the job your paid to do with pride and empathy towards your  coworkers and clients.  You don't know what their home life is like, so alway smile and be kind you may be the only smile they have receive that day.

Children and Professional .

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not enough enough EA staff , lots of children are struggling, if they don’t have a behaviour they are fallen through the cracks .

Most part is fantastic, you get what you put in .

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start at 7:50 try to be the best person I can be today , make children feel safe and loved .

The Anglophone East District test for the Payroll role was about 2hours 30minutes long (Paper and computer test). It was not difficult but it was quite a lot.

I passed the Test and thereafter I was sent an email to complete the predictive index cognitive assessment.

 After this, I was meant to meet with the director of HR and some other people (panel interview), but this did not happen as I got an email a couple of days after the assessment that I was an outstanding candidate but the organization has decided to go another route based on their needs.

We see a lot of news about supply teacher and teacher shortages but the school district takes months to decide on candidates for hiring. Very frustrating as some people cannot wait 3-4  months to hear back for a job. When hired, there was no contract given or any discussion of payroll etc. Some schools and staff are amazing and all are trying their best to deal with overcrowding, rapid growth and school district challenges. My frustration is higher than school  level and is with district employees at the offices

Great people to work with and driver training was great

Terrible drivers that pass stopped bused

Excellent people to work for and great training 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Much the same but gave fun driving each day

Working with children is a big highlight for me.  I have had the pleasure of doing so since 1992, fourteen of these as a custodian and the past 8 as a school bus driver.  My employer has invested a lot of training in me over the years and I have benefited from this.  My co-workers have given me a lot of tips and encouragement to make this job the most enjoyable one I have ever had.

I had a very positive experience working here. The role allowed me to support students with diverse needs and build meaningful connections with them. I appreciated the supportive and collaborative environment among staff. Each day was a great opportunity to learn and adapt, as I worked in different classrooms and supported a variety of students.

I am very pleased with my 33-year career with AESD. The district leadership team has a clear vision in moving the district forward and has been supportive of me in my roles.

Anglophone East is a great place to work okay. Great managers to work with great people to work with hours are good pay is great... you're in a union so it helps for job security
