Management takes advantage of workers from other countries. Preferential treatment was given to a certain individuals. During busy season or during holidays when it was busy, workload demands were obviously increased, but you were expected to work at an unhealthy pace. Poor work-life balance with poor pay and to what end? Employees were fired with no explanation or feedback about what they did wrong. You were expected to work extra because “there is no one else available to work.” The resort itself is beautiful. Don’t work here. It will seem like a very supportive environment at first but you may be blindsided. I don’t believe the management company cares about the bones of what keeps the resort running (ie, the housekeepers, house people and guest service workers). It’s the bottom dollar they care about. If they invested a little more in their employees then they wouldn’t have such a hard time retaining them or recruiting them. That is my honest opinion based on my observations when I worked there and knowing others who have worked there. 

Kitchen, Restaurant and spa, seem to be the best departments to work at. Working at Black Rock Oceanfront Resort is good if you are looking for a  temporary/summer job, so you can explore Tofino and Ucluelet,  going surfing etc.
 If you are looking for a long term job, this isn't the place. Main managers have an old school mentality, micromanagement is their way. One day they ask you how you are  and the next day they don't even respond when you say good morning/afternoon! Most of them act like they are the only ones important in the company, and they call themselves leaders,  but their actions say the opposite too loud that it is difficultt to even feel a bit of respect for them.  It is a different story when the owners of the hotel are in the property, the managers act like the nicest people in the world!
There are a lot of foreign workers because local people don't want to work here. Be ready to pay over $700 a month in a "subsidized" shared room, sharing the washroom and kitchen with 8+ people. 

I hear many mixed reviews about any job . In my opinion , the state of positive perspective is needed anywhere , a good attitude and strong knowledge of interpersonal skills is needed. The time I had at the Black Rock was wonderful , management was kind in my employment . I made very great relationships and very memorable staff events which I enjoyed so much . Some people in the world don’t have jobs or even get to travel anywhere to work so which speaks to the Black Rock and my own personal experience . The opportunity I had to come work here really helped me in my own journey , if your social and love to be in the outdoors and admire the positive and good things in life around you then I would go ahead and try the black rock if I was someone who doesn’t know about ucluelet (which was me too before) cheers . Blackrock Oceanfront Resort has represented a place for stability and growth within my career path in the years I have worked here. Not only is there room to grow but I have received the teachings and support needed to achieve my goals in hospitality. Coming to work I know and can trust the team I work with will get the job done.  I feel a great sense of teamwork, pride and fun on a day to day basis. Many of my co workers have been here for many years as well and the  feel of a  family atmosphere at work is evident. When you care about the people you work with,  you care about the job that you do.  Your contribution at the resort in whatever department your work with will be rewarded and supported. Not to mention killer benefits, living wage and many staff activities throughout the year. Karaoke Christmas party!

The 3 years I've worked there I've met a lot of great people. Typical day at work was to go through my check list whilst doing laundry for Kitchen and Restaurant, wasn't too bad.
Management wasn't an issue for me. Workplace culture was decent as you not only meet the HSKP staff but other departments. 
Things I've learned: Operate the Fire places, Patio door issues, clean and inspect rooms, and how to juggle numerous front desk requests.
Hardest part of the job was to juggle numerous front desk requests while trying to complete your daily checklist at the end of the night during summer.
The most enjoyable part of my job was to assist and work with my fellow HSKP staff.

I wouldn't recommend any one to work here. Super understaffed and poor management. Nobody has hospitality experience working there. My manager would never go and talk to guests if they asked to speak to a manager. I would have to go back and forth between guests and manager to have a conversation for her.  I got overpayed about 2,000 dollars while working for reservations that I had to pay back in increments and you have to fight with the managers if your paycheck was wrong. Be prepared for drama with other employees.

Over the last year Management has worked hard to build a strong team. They value their employees and are always ready to listen and take suggestions from staff on ways to improve their job and to create a positive work environment every day.
The work is demanding but if you have a good work ethic you will be recognized and rewarded regularly for your efforts. Likewise, if you have a poor work ethic, it will not go unnoticed.

Ucluelet is a beautiful place to live and Black Rock is a wonderful place to visit. Find anywhere else to work. Even with the new change of Management, this place is a revolving door of staff. As new staff you will be treated like you are expendable and already out the door. Between the toxic work environment and poor work/life balance, it’s hard to find anything nice to say about working here. Use your own judgement about applying. 

Beautiful place to work, but it is a rotating door. Because of that, employees aren't treated with any special attention - managers are too used to everyone leaving eventually. Often times, we were way understaffed because there simply weren't enough people on staff in the first place. Made for unhappy customers.

Productive and fun workplace. The turnover is very low and the quality of life is the best you could find in a remote location. 

The company demonstrates an appreciation for a job well done regularly. There are regular reviews and rewards to each department and the moral of the entire staff is extremely high.

This organization should be among the top 100 companies in the world to work for.
