The atmosphere is toxic, to put it kindly. It’s like being adopted by a family of narcissists. The majority of the staff are amazing and IF you can find your place among them you’ll love them. The problem is that “the seniors” know the systematic manipulation that management engages in so they are very slow to trust. The work expectations are unreasonable, and you will never be given the resources or support to do your job properly BUT your performance will be judged heavily despite that. Even if you do your job perfectly, you’ll still be subject to the owners tantrums. The S*^t List is a very really thing that any staff member can tell you about. There’s no logic behind why you’re put on it, but it will take FOREVER to come off of it and it will involve things like purposely being scheduled for shifts outside of your availability or on days you booked off, laughingly being given the worst shifts on the schedule, being scheduled in places that aren’t your department/position, or just having your shifts taken away. Management will mock you (both covertly and openly), disclose your personal information and even make some up when it suits their purpose and gossip/backbiting is encouraged. There’s absolutely no concern for anyone’s safety and don’t even get me started on the systemic misogyny. SYS. TEM. IC. They also market themselves on the ideas of charity and community but openly engage in racist/classist behaviours while allowing open drug use by both staff and customers. It’s an interesting balance of values. 

My experience at Blackjacks Roadhouse was unfortunately very disappointing. The work environment is extremely toxic, largely due to the management style. There’s a pattern of systematic manipulation from the top down — management (L) often talks behind employees’ backs and encourages a cliquey, gossip-driven culture.

If you're someone who values professionalism, respect, and the ability to work independently, this is not the place for you. Independent thinking is discouraged, and there's very little room to grow or even breathe without constant micromanagement or behind-the-scenes undermining. The favoritism is blatant, and constructive feedback is rare unless it’s laced with personal criticism.

I wouldn’t recommend this workplace to anyone looking for a healthy, supportive, or respectful team environment.

The owner has taken a back seat and passed the management onto his children that have literally no experience and clearly don't have a clue. The next in charge lives on site and if you need any manager help at night you wont get it sober.

And THIS is just for the start;

There is no mentoring or coaching, gossiping is encouraged and management does not lead by example. Place is extremely 'clicky' and your week will change based upon the manager (owners daughter) current mood. She will constantly change your schedule and will take your shifts if its going to be busy (good tips). When you are spoken to inappropriately by a customer, or cornered in a back shower room hallway, and or touched inappropriately by the transient clientele don't expect any support.

I did not feel safe working here in the evenings or late nights

Really disappointed in the "Family Business" type establishment that they try to present. This is a cut throat business that looks out for the owners and owners alone! Management (family) really encourages chatty/talk behind your back catty behaviors.
This company is very involved in local charities and is beneficial for the community but remember that all of the charity work is a right off, that being said the owner is very intelligent in business and is onsite daily doing day to day operations which is commendable however as an employee you are a number and simply used to benefit the bottom line.
Customer base is very blue collar, the perfect customer!
If you work here my advise to you is keep your mouth shut, show up and do your job, the turnover rate is very high! and if people like you the manager will have it out for you!

Do not work here. The most toxic work environment I’ve ever been a part of. If you want a job where anywhere from the management, cash ladies, kitchen staff, women on the floor to the customers are talking trash about you, then this is the place for you. There is no professionalism at all. Management is god awful. They let the customers treat you however they want and literally do not care cause you’re making them money. You will feel like a piece of meat and like you’ve taken a step back into the 50s for the degrading treatment you have to endure daily.  I could go on and on, but do yourself and just don’t. It’s trash.

This establishment fosters a gossipy, clickily & unfriendly culture. Horrible managers & staff that have no interest in promoting a fun friendly atmosphere for their employees. 
They schedule you for a closing shift & then back in the AM with not much time in between. 
They don't allow you to take your tips home at the end of your shift, they're held back,  added to your pay cheque &  then taxed. This I have never seen before, totally a cheesy Liberal  move by management. Its like they're trying to win kudos from the government. Too bad this all wasn't indicated up front....don't waste your time, go work ANYWHERE else!!

working at blackjacks can be fun, for the sake of some of the employees. but mainly consists of regular customers that verbally sexually harass you while management sits and drinking coffee with them and ignores it. 
crazy hours that give you no time for a social life and sometimes limited hours until youre back to work after a 8+ hours shift. 
false promises of working in the bar, will string you along and have you work back to back positions without reward of bar shifts.
favoritism in management

There's a group of them in the back of house that talk about everything in a different language from English leaving you with no idea what's going on or what to do. Very little time to train anyone, toss you in and say good luck. People had very negative things to say about these people and yet the company keeps them around. They would lose there cool when a new hire asks questions on what to do or is going a little slower. 0 outta 10 experience. 

Run! This place is full of false promises and bad ethics. They treat this company as if you’re lucky to work at a truck stop. The quality of food is about 2/5 and the cleanliness is about a 0 in the kitchen, just check the health and safety reviews. Managers also like to gossip about their employees. The female owner like to micro manage everything you do, then take shifts on the bar from her employees. I wasn’t here long I just ran from it.

I wouldn't recommend anyone working here you can work very hard and get very little apprication. Careless athosphre favourites friends are enabled was not a clean environment either
