The company takes a lot of short cuts when it comes to the products. Working just over 3 years, I can tell the difference in quality of the products. Cheaply made, fall apart easily, many things come in broken or missing pieces.
You work hard because you have to in fear of being written up for not getting everything done in a day. As a manger, not only do you have to look after the staff and all the mundane paperwork, but you are also expected to make the most sales every week. You want to rely on the other staff members, but you are afraid that something will go wrong that you will then have to spend a day fixing it (while again, having to make your sales goals).
Even when you have worked your hardest, and have worked there for a couple years, there is no chance of a raise or better benefits. The excuse is "the company has no money to give out".
It may be worth noting the company went bankrupt once, and just recently escaped receivership. However I can see them making the same mistakes, emphasizing the wrong things and making it harder for the store staff to meet the crazy new goals. They should be rewarding stores for making their goals instead of just an email saying "good job".

A typical day a work I am either a opener or a closer. I spend the first hour cleaning filling the tills with float for the day, or the last hour if closing. Additionally in the last hour I'd be taking the deposit to the bank. During shift i am assisting customers with orders either being placed or picked up. Loading cars with furniture or advising customers on what would suit homes best. I've learned the importance of making sure a customer understands the full process therefore if something is delayed they can understand why. Management is very friendly, sometimes things may be passed on to me as a key holder if they are sick or need extra help during a busy period. The hardest part of the job is when information is not passed along to all workers, therefore having to deal with customers when you aren't fully aware of the situation. The most enjoyable would be the people, providing customer service and seeing happy customers leaving the store.

Pro: 
- Great people (family feeling).
- Easy work - especially great for people-persons. 
- Very hands-on.
- Aside from holidays, stores open at 10:00. 

Con: 
- Not enough hours. When I was hired I was told I would receive about 15 hours starting and come back-to-school season (1 month later) between 25-30. When I quit, was getting 4 hours a week...
- The shifts are 4 hours long. 
- shifts aren’t fixed - they change every week and management has a hard time keeping up with scheduling conflicts. 
- minimum wage salary and no commission.
- SO much store maintenance. Some days all I did was dust/clean.
- No career advancement.
- The “bonuses “suck - you didn’t win/receive money or gift cards, you won “bombay bucks” which obviously could only be spent at Bombay....

Overall there was no progression. I thought the company was stuck running on old ways and that here was no room to grow.

They tend to discourage employee communication and are too strict on conversations in the office. The culture is stifling and there is not room for growth or movement as upper management tend to run the office as more of a dictatorship and less diplomatic. There is no flexibility in work days and work/life balance does not exist, its more of an inconvenience rather than balance.

My direct manager was okay, however never truly stood behind her team unless there was praise. That made the job non trustworthy and not enjoyable.

There was no true feedback system in place for positive changes or negative experiences, their mindset was to fire rather than inspire.

The only good part of this job was the friendships built amongst co workers.

I was full time morning shift so would open along with an assistant manager. I would check the previous days orders to ensure that stock ordered was not stock on hand. Would go over daily pick-log and ensure proper items went to each customer. Was resposnisble for assisting customers who came to pick and load up orders from stock room. Helped weekly delivery truck unload arrival of stock and assigned pre-pays to customers and properly stored and verified all stock coming in and going out. It was fast paced and required vigilant attention to detail which I found enjoyably challenging. I found great statisfaction at the end of each shift knowing that I and my team were able to accomplish smooth sailing out of seeming chaos.

I worked there for two days helping with their yearly inventory so I don't really know what a typical day at work is like. But what I typically did was help count their inventory and organize their products. I learned a lot about counting inventory and what it details and also I learned how to work in a stock room. Management was excellent, as my sister was the one who hired me for the two days. I didn't really get to know the other works too well, I mainly just hung around my sister but they seemed cool. The hardest part of the job was working until 1am and then having to wake up the next morning at 6am, so it did take a lot of me. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with my sister and working in a really relaxed environment.

If i could give Bombay no stars I would. This company doesn't care for their employees at all. Stock and receiving get paid minimum wage, while expected to go above and beyond. Always under staffed but still continue to cut peoples hours. Management is not professional at all, will get you introuble for things they taught you to do! The worst part is probably the costumers, some of the most verbally abusive people i've ever had to encounter. People think because they have money the can walk all over you and treat you like trash and all management says is "deal with it". I'd advise anyone to stay away from Bombay and look for something different job wise.

Management was great with working with me on hour and they were very accommodating not only to myself, but to every other member of staff. 

Some of the store policies were difficult to work with when it came to accommodating the customer's needs. 

There was little chance of advancing in the business and I thought the rewards for your hard work were very minimal. 

My experience was fun, but I think they was entirely dependant on the fact we had a great team. 

As a cashier, the system was neatly organized and easy to use.

Typical day was customer service, customer service, customer service. Restocking shelves and giving tasks to the sales associates (CSR's). Closing duties, including closing tills and doing bank deposit.

How to be patient with irate customers.

Store management was awesome and made a great team leader.

Co-workers were a pleasure to work with.

Hardest part of my job was sometimes trying to get some employees to stay focused and get their task done.

Most enjoyable part was the people I worked with.

I had only worked for this company a few months.  I was hired for one location as asst Manager.  After only 1 1\2 weeks in the position the manager of the store made homophobic remarks to me.  I was then transferred to another location.  There people took your sales, you slaved like a dog for min. pay, hostile environment.   They were going to write me up for not taking a lunch break as I was serving customers.  I had enough with the b.s. and told them to shove the job.  No matter how desperate you are, don't work for this company their morals and values are horrible...  Keep your dignity
