This is a review based on my experience at the downtown office specifically. Management is extremely supportive and friendly, yet they get lost in their own tasks and are unaware of the fact that people within their team promote a very toxic environment, making it painful for coworkers to perform the job, particularly new ones. The organization prides itself on promoting values that reflect the organization, yet, these individuals, who happen to be there longer, behave one way in front of management, and another one behind their backs. They talk dismissively to people who seek their support on the phone from other schools. They say hello and goodbye to people they consider of interest, but refuse to acknowledge you in the elevator or hallway. When asked to be trained, they go over complex, long and important details refusing to go slower or wait for you to take notes. The job itself is very interesting and rewarding, including benefits, too bad the work culture needs a lot of work, particularly if they want to attract younger employees.

Working with the school board was a very rewarding experience, knowing that you were making a positive impact in student's lives... however senior administration was overwhelming toxic and political.

You would receive regular and required training on respectful workplaces, ethical behavior, supportive work sites, welcoming diversity, etc. but it was all just empty words not backed up by actions from the administration.; and it only got worse since Covid. It became disturbingly common to hear derogatory language directed at employees, students, and families - sadly trying to address this with administration usually resulted in no action or retaliatory actions against the employee reporting the issue.

Pretty toxic over last couple of years before I left.

It was the first school district that I worked for. I would have continued my career there had I not moved out of the area. 

A typical started with me preparing learning materials for the day. When the bell rang I went and retrieved my students from the line-up outside. We did our morning ritual, prayer, national anthem, agenda, attendance. After this was complete we worked on our lessons. Our days were full of learning as well as fun.

The pay is very poor. As an education assistant there's no room for advancement. The schools and principles I have worked with have been fantastic though. Wonderful co workers. But this doesn't matter when you struggle to pay bills. I'd only recommend working at CSSD as an EA if you have a partner that makes much more money, or if you're young and looking for an introduction into education. I'm 27 and it just isn't good enough. Tons of politics in the highschools too. Quite frustrating.

during winter season beacause iam moving to one place to another..

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
working with the people have high value...dedicated supervisors and Manager and also H.R office, other staff.

of course every friday..lastday of the week..

When I worked the two years at Our Lady of Lourdes School I felt it had an amazing team environment. It was a behavior/last chance  school for students to get behavior modification techniques to enable them to return to the mainstream school system. I worked within the three autistic classrooms and found the job both challenging and rewarding. I also worked as a substitute TA for a couple of years and worked in all grades with special needs students.

I’ve really enjoyed my time at CCSD the past couple years. I’m not Catholic but it’s actually been neat to see how the kids respond to the overarching lessons of love and community that are embedded in the school district’s teachings. Everyone I’ve worked with or talked to in the district has been quite warm and welcoming and always helpful. It’s  one of the first jobs that I’ve been excited to come to each day and I do truly feel that employees are well taken care of. 

I like the collaborative culture of the organization. All individuals have something to learn from each other. I like the respect and love for all human beings. The hardest part is that you do not know if you have done enough to help the next person. They always say, "we are all in this together".
I learned that the principal and vice principal are hands on. They lead by example! Noone was told what to do.

I Work at Holy Child SW, great place to work. Great group of people, great everything except for the pay.
Great place to work, great principal/vice principal and co-workers. I was always treated with respect and kindness. The only downside is the pay.

The Calgary Catholic school district has the lowest salaries for support staff in Alberta, and we have not had an increase in almost 10 years.  It is extremely frustrating because that is probably the only complaint the majority of support staff employees with this district have.  It is not a liveable wage for anyone who is in a single income household.
