How this company received one of the "Best Managed Companies" award is beyond me. While this is a ripe opportunity for learning experiences; be careful. Yes I gained valuable knowledge in the field of student experience and housing; but I also gained much more experience in what to NEVER accept from an employer. This includes confidential personal information being disclosed in a gossip type manner (by a very high ranking person), intimidation from a manager, being disciplined because they didn't like my partner and having no tangible behaviour based evidence of decreased work ethic or attitude, unfair hiring practices, and evident wage gaps (new employees with less experience making more than many people who have been there long term and males making more). In addition to this, I have had my own passion and watched many coworkers have their love and passion for a job be crushed. 
Yes! There are some amazing people you will meet in this job ranging from coworkers, to student staff to students. They are what makes the jobs with CLC worth it. BUT. There are some key players who overshadow all that good and you will find yourself needing out. NEEDING OUT. RUNNING OUT. If you are not a male and/OR not coined as a favourite, you will have little to no opportunity for advancement. 
If you are looking for your first foot in the door, it can be excellent on the job experience. You will see so much, learn so much and gain some excellent professional development opportunities. Use conferences to network, you will need this. 
 Of the many properties that CLC manages, I would only recommend two, at most, all due to upper management. You will work long hours which, in student housing, is expected. However, it is rare you will ever get that time back. There are unrealistic workload expectations and general life expectations put on you. Ex. being called into an incident from 1am-4:30am and then being spoken to about not being in the office for an 8:30am weekly update meeting later that morning.

Overall, if you are a young professional looking for your first job out of school in student life, this can be a great start. Use this experience and the networking opportunities to help you move into a role at a post secondary institution that will develop your skills and appreciate all you do.

I've worked here for a few years, I will say the people are very friendly to work with, but very disorganized.
Communication is a big issue, there is often no clear information about important things. 
There also isn't much in the way of Staff appreciation, especially for the front desk. They had a staff appreciation party and didn't invite anyone from the front desk to go.
You have a break in theory but, in practice it just doesn't happen. It's required that if someone needs you at the front desk you have to go and help them even though you're on break. 
I sincerely hope this changes in the future and that they bring back a break person.It would definitely improve employee morale and prevent some of the high turnover. 
Students, parents and hotel guests will treat you awful, with few exceptions.
Many of them do not care you are a person and will want you to bend over backwards for them with little to no thanks. 
I will say that the managers will have your back if you're being abused, but it is still very stressful to deal with. 
It is a step up from doing retail or fast food.
If you need customer service experience this is a pretty decent place to get it but, I don't recommend working here long term.  I really hope that they get their act together and start treating their front desk staff alot better. 
Otherwise they're going to keep having the high turnover that  they do. 

Not the worst place I've worked by far, but I often feel like I'm doing the work of multiple people here and for close to minimum wage. Residence Service Representatives at my location have lots of extra duties thrown onto them that aren't mentioned in the job description, such as washing and folding all of the building's laundry and mopping floors.

There are also problems with management. I specified during my interview (which lasted 2 hours...) that I was unable to work overnight shifts and was told that it wouldn't be a problem, only to have multiple overnight shifts put on my schedule and be told that all employees must be able to work them.

However, aside from these issues, it's not a terrible place to work. On slow days, it's a very relaxed job and you have lots of freedom to basically do whatever you want, as long as your job duties are completed by the end of your shift. But on a busy day, you may struggle to get everything done in time.

The workplace culture has become increasingly challenging and unsustainable. Leadership is often disconnected from the realities of day-to-day responsibilities, which makes it difficult to align with clear direction or receive meaningful support. HR appears out of touch with staff concerns, and while interruptions are constant, there are no effective systems in place to manage them. This environment makes it nearly impossible to adequately train and support student staff when employees themselves are not provided with the resources or guidance needed.

While I’ve tried to remain committed, the reality is that I’ve been actively looking for a healthier, more supportive work environment. My intention is to transition once I find a role that better aligns with my values and provides the resources necessary to succeed.

A typical day at work during student season would be answering emails and live chats. Helping students with any questions to do with residence or whatever I knew for on campus services. Listening to student issues and going over their accounts to ensure they are making payments on time. Giving any advice pertaining to residence or school, and providing them with services like our on residence mental health services. 
A typical day when it is hotel season is very fast paced. From the start of the shift until the end it was checking hotel guests in and out, taking payments, inputting new reservations or cancellations. Attending to any requests or ensuring their stay was the best it could be. This could mean if they had a complaint about their hotel room, we would either fix the problem in the room or ensure a new room is ready for them with a gift card.

The job position stated the importance of school during the job. Yet, they didn't follow through. I still remember this event- I received a text from my supervisor asking me when I was available. I said after class. And she told me to come in 5 minutes after my class finished. She knows I don't have a car to drive. So how am I suppose to get there on time? Unreasonable? Definitely. There is so much more to touch on but that's one of the several events I will never forget. 
In short:
-Supervisor was very unorganized
-Tasks were not clearly stated
-Unprofessional management team
-Work times were not posted until the morning of
Pros:
-Getting to know your students
-Job training in Ottawa (completely different atmosphere then the actual job). Professional and knowledgable.
-Co-workers were enjoyable to work with

The Horizon Residence was a fun place to work, I found it was really great experience because it was Campus Living Centre's first project in Alberta and they were just starting up. I got to help deal with all the hiccups associated with a new building and found it to be great experience. 

Typically I would respond to emails, enter data in spreadsheets, manage customer relationships and go into the community to promote the residence. 

It was a small work team and there was only 3 employees working closely together. Management was excellent, but the development company we worked under was unorganized and made things difficult. 

The hardest part of the job was dealing with unsatisfied customers on issues that were out of my control. The most enjoyable part of the job was working closely with the team and getting to know the tenants.

I went in to the job with a high expectation. My first real experience was a conference that really pumped everybody up and got everybody excited, however our supervisors made us feel like we were children who couldn't do anything right. The primary focus of the job was to be involved with our communities and make sure that they knew we were a person they could trust with any personal problems (i.e: drug abuse, bullying, assaults, etc.). What the most paid time came from accounted for being "rez police" (breaking up parties, giving warnings, doing Incident Reports, etc). The best part of the job was talking and getting involved with students. The hardest part of the job was when to say no to unsafe or unpaid work. The biggest thing I learned was that I can't solve everyone's problems, I can only help them solve their own problems.

This is an alright company to start off, you get to connect with people and build meaningful connections. However, for the work you are doing, the pay is way below what it should be. You are not just front desk, you are expected to intervene in emergency situations until an RA or Manager gets there...for minimum wage? No thanks. You may or may not get a good manager. Some managers do not manage, they're unorganized and unprofessional and put a lot of pressure on you in situations. I never felt like they had my back. Some managers are amazing. You are expected to learn as you go, which is extremely stressful given some of the situations I was asked to deal with.

Toxic work Environment employees gossip about you behind your back. Yet they say they are this perfect person. Make fun of you in front of your face. Upper managment is even worse doesn't give your schedule 2 days before the next week starts. LOW pay how do you expect us to pay full rent when you give us minumn wage and having a part time job like might as well not pay us at that point as we are giving most not all of our pay cheque back to the company. Company policy barres you from talking about your pay to other coworkers. Company is sketchy To many sub companies that are "partnered " with campus living centers that aren't listed on their website. They also manage apartment buildings that are not campuses. THE whole summer hotel business is terribly ran. There was only like 3 managers i genuaily liked and listened to you
