As an apprentice technician at Maclin Ford, I regret to say that my experience has been far from what I expected. While I joined the dealership with enthusiasm to learn and grow in my career, I have found a stark lack of support from management and most importantly, the shop Foreman. A foreman plays a crucial role in shaping the learning experience for apprentices, and unfortunately, the absence of effective leadership has hindered my ability to grow and succeed in my role. The shop foreman takes on multiple roles, but in doing so, is unable to effectively mentor apprentices or perform essential foreman-related duties. This lack of focused leadership hinders the learning experience for new technicians but also negatively impacts the entire team which often leads to decreased morale and productivity.

Throughout my time here, I have not received the mentorship or guidance I had hoped for. The environment feels stagnant, with little emphasis on professional development or opportunities for skill enhancement. This lack of support has made it challenging to succeed and truly learn in my role.

It is disappointing to witness such potential for growth being overlooked. I believe that a stronger focus on training and mentorship could greatly benefit not only the apprentices but the team as a whole. Unfortunately, the current situation puts a damper on the overall learning experience.

I hope this feedback will encourage improvements for future technicians who seek to advance their careers in a more supportive environment.


To be honest I remember the majority of the time I spent here quite fondly, all but the exception of 1 particular management from Asian decent, with a sure thing opinion on his ability, yet doesn't deliver when the time comes(to kerp it confidential, let just call him Al. Instead, Al carries a good for nothing vendetta, should you fail to sell, forcing Al to make an attempt in the final moment to quote, "save the deal". Which of course, Al won't! However, in true arrogant fashion, will take none of the credit for the failure, dispite his time and time again statements on how he can close any deal you need help with. Al says it's easy & will do for anyone whos struggling to close an interested buyer. This vendetta will carry over in other Methods to validity his statement of your failing to draw attention from his, and suggest this if an opportunity is going to be passed to you, he'll interject and attempt to convince the source that you are unable to make good on the opportunity to meet with you and you're someone who is not capable of success. On 3 occasions i was asked by fellow sales people if i got the sure deal the asked to be passrs to me, but was intercepted and given to a different person in order to discredit me, and validify his criticisms. So when i was transfered to his "Sales Team" as per his request I decided to go with a different company and move on rather than have him continue his work to damage my earnings and reputation any more with his childish vendetta, Grow up Al.

Employees are milked of all sanity.
Managers scream at employees with their doors open. Heaven forbid you clock in on time and take a second to ready for the day, but they don’t want to pay you to show up 5-10 minutes early without signing off an overtime consent form. 
Employees are promised to advance through the company, yet promises are never fulfilled by managers. 
Accounting staff will berate anyone who causes discrepancies in the cash drawer, even for a nickel. 
Harassment isn’t taken seriously, as its the managers doing the harassing 99% of the time. 

Also, every customer claims to know Art because of the radio ads and will cry and complain if they don’t get their way. 
Also, tons of customers are from Fort McMurray and whine constantly about shuttle drivers or lack of loaner cars. 

Staff barely have any benefits of working with this dealer. Referrals for anyone buying a vehicle are laughable. Benefits are garbage.

Reading the other reviews for this place, I found myself agreeing with the common theme of terrible management. This place is a minefield, being as you can walk through unharmed and get where you need, if you're lucky, but chances are something's going to go off and you'll be done. The place is disorganized to say the least, there is such a revolving door of employees in every department/job that nobody knows what to do or how to communicate properly. There is no set system in place, everything is changing every few months and it's a constant cycle of people trying to keep their own jobs in an environment where severance pay is the most reliable paycheck, and for most, the highest. This creates an unstable work environment, to put it lightly, of everyone trying to blame everyone else for everything else when nobody knows how to do anything in the first place. 

So if you think you can handle that then you can most likely make some money. Most people can't. But good luck.

A typical day at work would consist of providing high customer service on the phone and in person, booking service appointments for guests, answering questions and inquiries, ordering parts (including radio, amplifier and navigation units), redirecting phone calls to the appropriate individual or department, organizing and keeping the office sufficiently stocked with supplies, and general administrative duties. The managers are very understanding, reliable and honest individuals who care for their employees, which is one reason that makes the job enjoyable. Co-workers are respectful and positive. However, the hardest part of the job is the stress caused by the high volume of demanding customers and the high volume of calls during busy season (Spring & Fall).

Avoid this place at all costs, if you are looking for a career in car sales this is not the place for you. There's a reason why this is the worst store in calgary.
They talk a big game about how this magical "process" they have makes your job so easy but you dont get to learn anything about selling cars or how the numbers work. Just make phone calls and get the customer in.  When payday comes your commission doesn't make sense but you are talked down to about how you should appreciate making anything in this market.
The smart ones get out early. The hopeful ones stay and have the life ducked out of them.
When you walk in for your interview and get that cold deathly feeling take it as a sign and run like heck.

While working there, was never trained on a single process or system. I understand it is a self starting job but when the bare minimum is not put in place for you to do that job it is unreasonable. On top of that the entire management team is unhelpful and will not address any of your questions or concerns, they’re basically just show puppets. Was never taught anything about company policy or even something as simple as what shifts I was supposed to be showing up for? The entire dealership is disorganized and I would strongly recommend taking your business and yourself anywhere else for employment. Oh and one more thing, it is required by law that they pay you minimum wage even if you’re not selling cars, but they will skirt around that.

Starting out everything will be fine, overtime management will start complaining and you will realize how the dealership operates. They play favorites. You will get constantly blamed and criticized issues outside your control while helping other departments and not having enough time to get everything done. There were many days when I personally moved the same vehicle 4x in one day because some of the salesman do not care and lack knowledge on properly parking a car. Overall management was alright, but there were two managers that were amazing and made the job worth it for me everyday. 

I never understood why the turnover rate was so high until recently and I understand why there is such a high turnover

* Lots of work - don't have any down time.
* Lots of customer pay work - more than warranty
* Flat rate shop with loads of potential
* Good base hourly pay, but you need to spend too much in shop tools to get your hours

The general atmosphere in the shop is very good.  The shop is kept clean, and tidy.  There is a good variety of talent to help you out when needed.  

The one thing that sets this shop apart from others, is the need to shell out $1,000+ for shop tools on pretty much day one.  They have limited shop tooling to go around a lot of technicians, so it would be prudent to get your own - if you can afford it.

This is a flat rate shop with service advisors that can sell work at a very good success rate.  However, the kinds of jobs that you get will depend on a lot.....

My coworkers we're great. I got several commendations for my work from upper management, techs, and my supervisors. My direct supervisor was fantastic, one the best people i ever had the pleasure of working with.

I never saw a raise, despite the minimum wage increasing 50 cents. I made a whopping 16 dollars an hour for 9 hour shifts with unpaid lunches doing heavy, physical work in 30 degree humid summer heat that left me exhausted at the end of each shift. It certainly wasn't just me who felt the pay pinch. In the 3 months i worked there, i saw 4 fully licensed techs resign for work at better paying jobs. The turnover rate was abysmal.

Would highly recommend the car porter job. They get paid 15$ an hour to sit around doing nothing for a third of their shifts.
