I have been working with the company for several years and had actually changed my course of job searches in order to continue to grow with the company.
I began work in the entry level door-to-door sales position several years ago while I was still in college and worked a couple days a week around my classes. I was skeptical and nervous (I used to be pretty shy) at first because I had never had an outdoor job or a sales job but I was open to the opportunity because every other job I had before was pretty miserable. I had also read a couple things online that were not very kind but I figured I would check it out for myself.
After working for a few weeks I found it difficult to get away from the competitive nature of the job as I grew up as an athlete in several sports. Once exams were done I pretty much started working every day and learned more about myself than anything. I learned how far I was willing to push myself to achieve goals or to beat personal bests or to beat other members of the team. It was very hard work but I found that the harder I worked, the bigger the rewards.
I never won a lot of daily bonuses, but they did happen. I worked every day and earned about $200 per day having had zero experience in lawn care or sales before I started. It took me about a week of working to start making that consistently but I also had days where I earned as much as $700 in a day. I also had days that I earned almost nothing but it did have more to do with me giving up  on my day.
The hours are long, but you choose your schedule. The pay is commission (which is scary), but it gives you an opportunity to earn more than a job that would cap your earnings hourly. If you are want a job that you can sit around or slack off or be lazy and take a lot of breaks this will not be the job for you. But the choice is always yours as to when you take your breaks, or have lunch, or whatever. YOU ARE YOUR OWN BOSS. You don't have someone breathing down your neck, pointing fingers, but you do have management assistance, and of course there are guidelines that are set by the company that are expected to be followed.
I also found that different people stuck around for different reasons. Some people weren't very good at the job but still learned the life skills and liked being in an environment where being negative and miserable is frowned upon and being happy and competitive is encouraged. Experienced workers were encouraging and helpful to those who displayed the willingness to learn.
Some people that worked there really had a hard time not being negative and usually didn't last very long and they don't fit in.
Now I am a manager with the company and have been for several years. The company gave me quick opportunity for advancement based on work ethic (not years in or seniority), opportunities to travel, full benefits, RRSP matching program, competitive salaries, and so on.
I have had my ups and downs with the company but the downs usually end up being lessons learned and I have more ups as time goes on. Now, there are more positions available which are not all door-to-door positions but most do start in the door-to-door positions and transfer to the hourly positions if that suits them better. The services provided by the company are beneficial and essential for every homeowner, which makes it easy to get behind and is a reason that the company has grown the way it has. My advice would be that if you consider yourself hard-working and competitive then at least check it out for yourself and make your own decision. If you want a free ride then don't look for it here. There are no promises of riches or getting rich quick but if you dedicate yourself you will earn more here then you will "flipping burgers" and learn more too.

Again, if you are looking for flexible spring/summer employment or an opportunity  to earn some cash without a heavy commitment or expense to start then check it out. The company is different than a normal job but don't let previous misconceptions to make your decision for you, go to a hiring session and learn the truth for yourself.

Not for the physically unfit. This business is not a scam, but it is certainly a joke when compared to other, more presentable, companies. 

Firstly, they present the job like a middle school track-and-field event. The managers and supervisors cheer you on and try to motivate you, by appealing to your potential, promises of (meaningless) awards and payment, but when you're left on your route by yourself, the motivation power is lost and you're left with a 250 lbs machine to pull around in the hot sun or freezing rain. This is not professional. No other company would let their novice employees go out in the field on their own unless they are EXPERIENCED with the work. What if they hurt themselves? What if they collapse from heat exhaustion?  What if the employee has a dead phone or no phone at all? Who will be a first respondent? This is why a PARTNER that can respond in 30 seconds is better than a supervisor that circles the area every 30 minutes. 

As a INDIVIDUAL CONTRACTOR of CPS, you are a sales representative first and labourer second. The managers expect you to sell AS WELL AS work hard all day, every day. However, what sense does it make for employees to work themselves constantly AND be able to sell at the same time? The customer will not assume just because you work hard they will get a good deal, because they'll be too distracted by the smell of your sweat. A respectable company would have an establishment where customers can COME TO THE COMPANY when interested in the service and arrange a day instead of being APPROACHED BY door-to-door salespeople. Like I said, not for the physically unfit. This job is for you if you have physical endurance, a keen ability to sell and commitment to the time needed for this job (during work and off-hours).

However, it was not for me. I have the potential to work, but I do not agree with their management, recruitment, pep-rallies and presentation of the job as a sport rather than, let's say, A JOB. On the shuttle to work, an audiobook of the employee handbook (read by Ben himself) was playing. I asked if we could listen to radio music, but the driver said it was mandatory for me to listen to the recording in order to excel in the job. This is one of the many hints (especially the employee handbook, that shows an "ideal" schedule of a 7-day work week, diet and workout program [wtf??]) that show the employees are taught to obsess over the company, and this does not inspire professionalism. Also, their morning motivation meetings and recruitment one-on-thirty job interviews (no, not one-on-one... one-on-thirty) are akin to lottery ads: they put so much emphasis on the benefits like money and physical fitness while neglecting the losses, dynamics of the job and advice on selling. The meetings should offer lessons, not tips. 

Only take up their job offer if you posses the qualities that guarantee you'll do great on the first day. They'll try to reassure you that you'll get used to it, but this is a waste of time and effort while you could be looking for a job that you know you'll excel at. If you're entry-level and you're built to be a cashier, THEN BE A CASHIER. Don't go chasing the dreams they sell you.

I worked for these guys for about three months during the lawn care season. Learning more about how to perform a rejuvenation on a lawn and also how to sell one, I had a few days with a handful of sales. There was one somewhat decent day where I earned about $500 gross but I only took home around $130 after deductions by the company. Factoring in that the company has to pay for the products you used on the lawn, the gas for the machine and whatever else it's understandable that some would be taken off. However since the employee is the one who hustles all day for the sales, makes the sales, and then actually does the job.. that seems a little unfair to me. They are great motivators but hustling to put a good chunk into someone else's pocket made all their team spirit a little off putting. They present it like more people actually need this service and ask questions about your approach if you are having trouble making a sale. A good amount of sales is about approach but at the end of the day lots of people can't afford to or don't care to put money into their lawn. Chances are if they do care about it, they already have someone who they know and trust to take care of it. Some days you will have a few "prebooked" appointments for people who have actually hired the company already and expect to have you knock on their door and do their lawn but mostly the money you make is cold sales. One morning the route manager said he had one "prebooked full rejuvenation" for whoever could guess which number he was thinking. A full rejuvenation is a dethatching, raking, bagging, aeration and a "spring product blast" or distribution of fertilizer, lime and seed. Always at least an hour or two of work. I guessed the right number and when I got to the prebook I looked at the description in my binder of what the customer wanted done, just to be sure and found it was just a product blast that they had ordered. So he flat out lied to us there. He knows exactly what a full rejuvenation is. Anyway, I actually enjoyed the physical labor of the job and would have maybe stayed for a while longer with the company if there was at least a minimum hourly pay. But all their speeches about how the company has grown made me think it has grown through ripping off their employees. The customer gets a good deal though, I would buy lawn care from them if I didn't know how it is for the staff. This is a fun workout for somebody who knows the game to come back for a few days here and there and see how many sales they can make but this is not a great long term job because there is no stability. It's not the type that should be completely commission. They have plenty of money and should at least offer minimum wage for the people who actually hustle sun up to sun down.

I worked with the company in many locations for a few years and recently found a full-time job in my field of study (civil engineering) so I won't be able to return this year. I wanted to make a review here because it was such a great experience for me. This is not a normal work environment and it is actually what I found awesome about it. I had a great time, developed people skills, leadership skills, and overall just had a good time competing every day I worked.

Some of the reviews here are just slander and lies. Ridiculous and sickening really. I'm not sure what would lead someone to write some of this stuff but if it were true then all CPS staff would be in jail by now. Reports of withholding pay, and being a "scam", and slave labor and any other nonsense is just ridiculous. Other real parts of the business being spun in a negative light such as not receiving 100% of the commission despite supposedly having done all the work. Again, ridiculous. It's a business with expenses. That would be like saying the guy who puts the fries in the fryer at a fast food place deserves to take 100% of the money for it because he's doing all the work to cook the fries. The commission is fair considering the luxuries that are provided by the company to actually make this as easy as possible. 

If you have been a student in any college or university in Ontario then you will have seen the company at almost every Career Fair put on by your school, in addition to booths, and other school sponsored events promoting jobs they feel are acceptable for students. If any of these claims that the company is a "scam" were true then why would YOUR school want to show you this opportunity. It doesn't make any sense.

The management teams are probably the hardest working people I have ever met and usually positive, motivating, and energetic. It's not like any other workplace and really helped me develop the skills I needed to have the guts to get the job I really wanted rather than settling for a mediocre opportunity.

If you have any doubts then just go to the hiring where you can make your own choice. They definitely do not sugar coat the job and make it clear that it is hard work. Just get the information you need. Don't be dumb, if you consider yourself hard-working, positive, and don't mind having a job that is a bit of a workout then you should at least give yourself a chance to do this at least for a few days early in the season while you are still in classes. That way if you find out that it really isn't for you then your not stuck with no time to find a new job. But try this one because it could be the best decision you ever made. You have nothing to lose.

Canadian Property Stars is a company where the general manager cares about one thing and one thing only, his income. The machinery is ancient, the facilities are awful, the hours are long and the managers are miserable. This is an unhappy job that (the Hamilton area, at least) is run by a version of The Wolf of Wallstreet with far less intelligence and a lot of anger and foolhardiness. 
The typical day at CPS is taking the shuttle to work, and making it to the facility at 7:50am. They let you in the building at 8, get organized by 8:30 and then give supposedly motivational speeches at you until 9:30 or so. This is all unpaid. The driving, the waiting, the getting squawked at by the GM is all your time, with no payment whatsoever. 
Once that miserable opening is concluded, you get your assigned areas, hop in the vans and drive. Again, the driving is unpaid. So if you are an hour away from where you're selling, that's two hours of the time you have to actually make money. But you get driven over and dropped off with a machine and off you go.
Now the selling and aerating/drive way sealing is actually good. Most people are alright, even if they shut you down, and the actual labor is fine. It also feels great to make a sale. You do you own paperwork and it's all simple. This is the best part of the day.
However, once it's dark out, you get piled up in the van and drive back to base. From there, there is another pep talk, you wait in slow lines to be paid out in cash, and that process is anywhere in the neighbourhood of 2 hours. Then you get back in the shuttle and go home. The average day is from 7:45-10:45 and CPS encourages you to run all day, and not take breaks. They actually said that. 

The turnover of CPS is incredibly high, and it's easy to see why. The managers range from sullen to outright hostile, the main boss is a buffoon who thinks he's hot stuff because he was a good salesman fifteen years ago, and the company reputation is as poor as the drifters and unemployable people they hire. Avoid this company, as they have nothing to offer you and even less to offer their customers, who are simply the cash vending machines in a scheme to having poorly trained employees steal whatever they can in the guise of being professionals. I would sooner hire racoons to tar my driveway than hire the children that are trusted to work for this company, which is a shame because some of my co-workers had potential, but CPS squanders what they are capable of by uncaringly running a sham business that will hopefully be in the ground before much longer.

When I first started and signed up for this job, I was told I was going to be paid 17$/hour. I was really excited as I was hoping to save up for my classes. I was proven wrong when I went to the first training/sign up day and was told it was based off a 28% commission or 18% if you worked with a partner. I didn't let this get my hopes down. 

I practiced for about 5 minutes on my first day on what to say to a customer and how to make a sale, then was driven to North delta and dropped off with a cart with a carbon fibre brush and a filtration tank. It was about 34 degrees outside with no clouds at the time. I painfully went door to door, pushing the 120lb cart along with me that had broken wheels so it constantly shifted to the side especially on hills. I soon began to lose my hopes after each door I knocked on, many people claiming that they wash their windows themselves, that my prices were too steep although I lowered them far more than what they were listed as (ex: 2 storey house = 250 +tax, I said 85-100) still got rejected. I went through 2 different routes and still got no sales. I finally called my manager who said I was "working hard and was going to get me to clean some houses" so he finally picked me up and took me to a house who had paid for power washing their driveway, and cleaning their gutters and Windows. 

They didn't train me how to power wash but I knew from previous experiences as a kid so I worked in the sun for about and hour and a bit power washing the persons driveway, only to be scolded twice by different managers that I shouldn't/should have washed the sidewalk and the ramp of the driveway. One claimed the guy didn't pay for it and the other claimed that I should clean it clearly not having the knowledge that the guy didn't pay for it. I was supposed to end my shift at 8:00pm but finally ended up leaving at around 10:40pm and virtually walked away with 20$ from a job worth a couple of hundred dollars. 

I would not recommend working here at all. The public tends to turn down a lot of sales and you earn nothing compared to the managers who sit around and do nothing all day. Some people are extremely rude, and the company lies to attract new workers. The 17$/hour was merely a dream.

Off the bat what you've probably heard from many is that this job is not for everyone. They even say that in the interview process, they don't hide that it's a tough job.... yes i put commission as a pro and keep reading to see why.

It's not like you're walking in blind folded, I knew exactly what a day would be like: meet up at the shuttle, get to the warehouse for 8, have a big team meeting, get my shirt, get sorted into a team and off we go! The training on the machines should be a bit better but it's pretty easy once you do it a few times. Ask questions! I was outside from 11am-7:30pm. It goes by pretty quickly to be honest.

I've done sales before but actually stopped because it was too stressful. This job though, i believe in the service, we are NOT SCAMMING people. We offer a service that many people love to do for their lawns, but would be more expensive and time consuming if the owner did it themselves. Takes 15min or so per lawn depending on size. If you have a peak attitude, thirst for money and  want an amazing workout then this job is perfect. 

All i have to say to bad reviews is that if you believe a guy that wrote 'allowed to smoke weed' as a pro....then is he really a reliable worker? yeah didn't think so lol! I did 11 lawns on my first day i wanted to keep going but it was getting dark, made great money. If you have a smile on your face and sell yourself first as a student paying for school, or hoping to get fit and have abs by the end of the summer (makes them laugh every time) they won't see you as a annoying sales person from a company, they will see you as a normal person having fun doing this job for something greater.

Commission based does suck sometimes, but with this job if you are determined and get the hang of it you can be bringing home 150$+ a day (like i did on my FIRST day fyi) compared to a base salary where you go home with the same 80$ at the end of each day.

My hours are also very flexible, you work the days that YOU want to.

First of all, this company used to be called Spring Masters. They've changed their name a bunch of times due to bad press, and that should be a red flag to you right out of the gate. Secondly, your pay will be between $0 and $150 a day, the latter only if you are very good and very lucky, and you will almost always make less than what would amount to minimum wage.

Not only is the commission kind of ridiculous considering you're doing all the selling and all the work yourself, and they're doing little more than offering you some supplies to work with, but you will often have to work an hour or two with no possibility of pay just putting everything away at the end of the day. A lot of neighbourhoods will be hit by companies that can undersell you because they don't have to pay egregious fees to their head office, and a lot of people know they can do the work themselves with pretty minimalistic tools.

I won't say this job is all bad. It was kind of fun being outside all day, but ultimately it's just not worth it. You will never earn in proportion to your labour and hours. There will be days where you work 10 long hours for maybe $20, or even for nothing, and the days where you break past $100 will be exceptionally rare, and it's kind of offensive that this company is so bold-facedly lying by saying otherwise. When you're thinking about applying for this job, ask yourself one question: how would you react if someone knocked on your door at 10 am and asked you if you want your lawn aerated? Either you wouldn't be home or you'd try to politely have them leave as soon as possible. No one likes being bothered for a service they're not looking for, and you're going to have quite a time convincing people it's worth their money, especially when the tools for doing it themselves aren't as expensive as a single day's labour on your end.

Honestly, just skip this job posting. You will never be so desperate that working here is a good idea.

When I started working for the company I was very shy and very unsocial. It was probably best to say that I was a bag of complete awkwardness who couldn't get through a whole sentence without stuttering and/or mumbling. But as I began to see more about the company, I was startled to see how amazing I was doing. Although the pay wasn't that great (commission based, and I was matched with very bad partners almost constantly) I had to mostly learn everything on my own (don't get me wrong, it sucked, but in the end it was worth it) My typical day at work would be waking up early and getting home late. The hours weren't so great, but the flexibility of when I wanted to come in was completely up to me. There was no scheduling or anything. I'd wake up one day and think "I want to make some money today" or "My jesus lord, my limbs are so sore I think I'm going to roll over and die" The whole getting out of bed part was a bother to me but the minute I got to work, I was wide awake and ready. We had unpaid meetings, motivational speeches, but I found it really pushed me that extra steps. It built my confidence so I could walk up to a door without thinking how I was going to go about it. I have EXTREMELY helpful managers. It was like this huge family that helped one another. Unfortunately, the Co-Workers I personally worked with weren't that great (not all of them, just a selective few), but it was always the ones I never had the chance to work with that never failed to amaze me. They're just amazing people, I'm so proud to be around them. Which is why I came back. I want to get better and better, and I know that this job will help me do that. Plus, Greg Ross and his new game of elite managers are just fantastic.

Canadian Property Stars offers an amazing opportunity to make very decent money working full or part time. As a student studying Engineering at the U of C, I am still going back to this job for a second season because it was so incredibly fun and rewarding. 

No other employer would ever let me take weeks off at a time with absolutely no hassle. Working at CPS I am able to book single days on week days, or work full time if I prefer. I could even work two days in the whole season and they would be happy to have me. At CPS I can work exactly how often I want to, on what days I want to. The staff is super energetic and friendly, and eager to help me do my best every day. I can always cancel a shift even 24 hours before if something comes up.

With regards to the actual work, I've never had so much excitement as closing a sale by myself for hundreds of dollars. I've never been in better shape, nor felt as good about my accomplishments. I meet so many people doing this job, and there are endless stories from every day of work.

 This is very much a skill based job, and it is commission only. But don't let that scare you. I didn't like the sound of it either, but after working a few days, I found myself bringing home an average $250 per day. Yes, I worked all day and they didn't pay me for riding in the vans, but at the end of the week I found myself with more money than I've ever had. It added up to being paid double minimum wage for as many hours for doing a job that is very exciting and fast paced.

If you ever want to know what it feels like to bring $1000-2000 cash to the bank for a week, come work a few days and see if CPS is right for you too.
