When I first joined Cask, I didn’t come from a sales background, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure if selling was for me. But from day one, the onboarding experience was the most robust training I’ve had in any role—or even in a university course. It wasn’t just about learning how to sell; it was about understanding the industry, the customers, and how to add real value. I’ve developed skills that go beyond work and genuinely help me navigate life better.

Every day is different, but the core of my role is working with craft beverage makers to help them scale their business. Whether it’s answering questions, providing insights, or problem-solving, my day is spent guiding people toward the right solutions for their needs. The tools and resources I have at my disposal are incredible. Leadership at Cask is involved and supportive. There’s a high standard, but it’s never about micromanaging—it’s about equipping people with the right tools and guidance to be successful.

The workplace culture was a huge (and welcome) surprise for me. Especially in an industry like food and beverage manufacturing, I wasn’t expecting to be surrounded by such a driven, humble, and service-oriented team. People here genuinely want to learn, grow, and help others do the same. Without a doubt the best part of my role is the people. The customers I work with are inspiring entrepreneurs who are building incredible businesses. That’s what makes this job fulfilling.


I would agree that working at Cask is fast-paced and exciting, but you need to add that the environment is one of those look over your shoulders and watch what you say. There is a fear that has developed and is part of the culture now.

The ownership and management/leadership team on the surface seem to say that they want to help you build a future in the company, but if you are not 100% like them and do the same things they do or like the same things they like;  you are an outsider and you can count the days until you are let go.  I was more than "willing to go all in" and went above and beyond for the company including working long hours to get the job done. However I was not treated like family and was discouraged from thinking differently or asking questions. As soon as I did the tables were turned and my days were numbered. It began with closed door meetings where I was excluded and then ignored requests from management on a meeting to discuss work environment issues.

I wish it was a different situation, but the majority of people who work here will just agree to whatever management says due to the fear of being let go.  It really is too bad as the opportunity for this company to be truly great and leave a lasting legacy could be destroyed but one person at the top. Some of the people are great, but are slowly being weeded out.

I will say that I learned a lot about an industry I was unaware of and the people in the industry are wonderful.

I always wanted this to be more and had hopes that it would get better, but hopes don't make it a reality. Just go in with your eyes open that the glamor on the surface isn't always what it seems.



Working at Cask is fast-paced and exciting, and the packaged beverage industry as a whole is on the up and up -  "A rising tide lifts all ships!"

 Is the company perfect? Of course not. No company is. But the ownership and management/leadership team is extremely committed to building a future for any individual at the company who is willing to go all in for Cask. The philosophy is simple, if you treat it like a job you'll be treated like an employee. If you treat it like an opportunity to advance yourself and your career while helping to build the company, you will be treated like family. What does this mean in practice? It means those "above" you or with more experience will invest in training you, make your goals their goals, and do everything they can to give you an opportunity to advance your career.

With a growing industry comes many opportunities for growth. For a while the company seemed like it wasn't clear who they wanted to be in the market and so every opportunity felt like mission critical. This typically comes with new management. The company is now in a much steadier place, with a clear path to success. The only thing holding this company back will be not having enough people on board who are willing to go all in on both themselves and Cask. If you're someone who values working at a company where your impact is felt, seen and rewarded, and are looking for an opportunity to challenge yourself, this is the place. 

Rewards go to those who are best at maneuvering, backstabbing and manipulating.

Knowledge, proficiency, dedication and commitment are exploited to the fullest and then discarded. Seniority is ignored.

When I started working at Cask, there were ~10 employees, in total. In the 7 years I was there, I saw 50-60 employees come and go.

When control of the family-owned company went from father to son, all employees who were hired under previous management were dismissed over roughly a one year period.

The company went from a chaotic 'Wild West' scenario with almost no management, planning or structure, to fully corporate, top-heavy, micro-management with ever-increasing expectations and workload.

Cask went from a 'Ma and Pa' company who was loyal to employees and accountable to customers on a 'grassroots' level, to a shameless corporate organization powered by smoke, mirrors and fluff.

A typical day for me is, I start real early before anyone else arrives. Get coffee going in the lunch room, start my computer to see what e mails have come in during the night. Message a colleaque in Ireland to see how his day is going. I am in the Support Dept so e mails and calls are on going as we are World Wide. 
When I started at Cask I was working on the floor building Canning Machines. An opening came up in the Support Dept, I applied for it. Using my knowledge from previous work history and what I have gained here enables me to troubleshoot various problems that the client may be having wither they are in Calgary or in Korea. We are focused on what we do, while at the same time having some fun also. I also get to work from home 2 days of the week.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Genuine family feel. If there are comments or concerns, there's a big emphasis on being avaliable so there is always someone to chat with about possible solutions or work arounds. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is a big emphasis on quality. There is self quality control checks. And then a lead will complete a quality control check. Whole it's completely understandable people make mistakes. It's highly encouraged to keep a notebook and triple check everything

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great. I've never experienced a work atmosphere like it before. Nor will I ever experience one after 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Show up to work. Meet with your team. Decide your project for the day or goal. Talk about any possible updates and get to work

The saying people don’t quit their job they quit their manager should be a warning for this place. Your coworkers will be there with you through it all and they are likely the best part about Cask. This company has a reputation for letting people go without cause when you become an inconvenience to them, they preach family and job security but it is far from that. Management has very little understanding of the job you will do, you will be micromanaged and told to do more than your job requires because they lack the funds to pay people properly for their skills and time. Do not expect any sort of raise or praise for hard work no matter how many years if training or education you possess.  Do expect to be let go when you are wanting to advance within the company or if you disagree with the corporate politics.

Cask invented "micro-canning" in 1999 way before craft beer was cool. The company has grown from <5 employees to now  50, trending with the explosive growth of craft breweries (and more recently other craft beverages - cold brew coffee, kombucha, cider, wine, the list goes on!) for the last two decades or so.

Of course with growth comes growing pains, but the excitement of helping craft beverage entrepreneurs be successful in a very sustainable way (cans are infinitely recyclable!) makes each day something to look forward too.

Honestly, the 'family values' seem great, but it is a joke due to management.  Management wants to create a competitive environment where the employee is expendable. They want the outside view to look different when it is a fact that they want to use you for everything you are worth for a couple of years and spit you out.  I don't think a more two faced environment has ever been seen. Be prepared to think things are all good and get let go the next day. This kind of environment has employees looking behind their backs and stressed about their jobs. There are some good people here, but the Leadership has taken a strong downward spiral. Sad really as this is a short term winning strategy and the customers are already feeling the change. 

No two days are alike. Cask has the small-family business feel for a medium sized business with a global outreach. Our customers are fearless entrepreneurs that help us drive our decisions and inform a lot about our culture. 

Our company has been through tremendous amount of growth that's taught our team lots about leadership, resilience and a lean mindset. Doing more, with less. 

Throughout my career, there have been lots of opportunities to learn new skills, grow my talents and take on new opportunities in different roles. It's helped provide the opportunities to transform my life and do it alongside like minded individuals
