When management says they are there to support the field in safety, equipment, replacement parts, a second opinion, making the job easier, adding extra hands/eyes, review of job, covering for emergencies, and any kind of help you can think of, they do it. They did it. The management team I worked under was the best and well led group I've seen in my life. No lies. Working for platinum was amazing. The say something supportive or make promises and they follow through. Unbelievably positive experience. 

Upper management completely out of touch with industry. Same story as anywhere else, head office makes unilateral changes to justify their bloated salaries, regardless of impact on front line workers, they focus only on numbers and not on customer service or taking care of employees. Most management are hired because of corporate compatibility rather than industry experience. There is no formal training. Vehicles and equipment are rarely serviced, maintenance is up to the workers. Prepare to be frustrated beyond belief most days. Some staff members are really great, some of who smile at their co-workers and trash talk them behind their back. This should be a last resort.

Sporadic overtime, no communication, old equipment, lack of proper tools, no training, too many snakes in the pit!

I worked for them for approx 5 years off and on. They keep the good workers so that they have an easier time bidding on jobs; and so that they can produce good product therefore future contracts or jobs. Great employees who make work fun and are very intelligent. Negative aspect would be that mostly buddies get the foreman positions. The biggest downfall for me would be that when I injured myself at work, they got rid of me even though I had been such a great employee in the past (I broke no safety rules and was blind sided with compartment syndrome). This is a permanent injury and they knew it. I was left to fend for myself. There are other negative facts about this company but I won't get into details.

Attend morning tool box talks in the field with different crews each day. Work with field advisors and solve any issues as needed. Attend meetings, complete reports as required, conduct investigations as required. Work closely  with field level supervision and management group to ensure client compliance along with Federal and provincial requirements. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was simply working with people.

Chemco also operated a civil group which I had little experience in and I was able to gain an amazing amount of knowledge when I was transferred to the civil group.

The hardest part was the learning curve with the civil group, but I was able to gain a vast knowledge with some extra research after hours.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Best electrical company I've ever worked for. Great management and they treat you like a real person.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very strict on safety, which is good. But there are a lot of company policies and practices to follow. But at the end of the day, they have a great safe environment to work in.

Great relationship with management and employees. Feels like a real team environment and they always invest in their employees.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?

As a starter telecommunications technician for chemco on the telus falcon project, sometimes work can be tedius and repetative. Duties like shoveling, filling holes, and moving wheelbarrels full of material. There is however lots to learn, and everyone is willing to teach you. There is so much room to grow, you can move on to pulling the fiber through the conduit, or splicing and testing fiber connections. They offer an apprenticeship to become a journeyman telecom tech, and with that they allow you to grow and be successfull.

Hours are somewhat long, mon to fri and sat is overtime 7:30am to 6pm. Although you are home every night.

Working at Chemco at shell scotford was like being in high school all over again, except instead whiny teenagers you have whiny 50 year old men. Projects would constantly have material missing and be so poorly planned that we would spend days sitting in the truck waiting for another trade to do their job. Alot of the older guys where openly racist and sexist, they also did not know how to do their job properly. As a 2nd year apprentice i should not have to puppy dog grown  men with 10- 20 years of experience in this industry. Chemco is not a good place to learn the trade and i recemmond any other place in the 424.

The foreman is very friendly. The working environment is very good and the work intensity is not high.  It's a pleasure to work

The working environment is very clean, the culture is also very good, everyone is friendly, and as a newbie, everyone is willing to help me

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
night shift day have 2 over time day

This was one of the first camp jobs that I worked on and the only problem that I ran into was that if you slipped up once with security they would write you up and you could lose your job. So I guess it was out of the company's hands but it made the atmosphere tense all the time, and it felt like everyone was out to get someone. The hardest part of the job was to get along with all the other workers that were from out of province. The most enjoyable aspect of the job was that i was able to work 80ft a.w.p and work at heights it was fun running such an a.w.p.

My job entails making sure the Quality Control field labour is organized and armed with the information they need to make electrical inspections in an oil and gas plant under construction. From organizing the work to be inspected, ensuring my crew has the information needed, reviewing the paperwork before it is submitted, and walking the client through the inspection process, my job is a challenge every day.  It is extremely fast-paced and there are multiple deadlines to hit every day.
