Many reviews state things like abusive managers and one has to wonder if it's just sour grapes but this is truly a toxic atmosphere where the management expects people who get injured on duty to return and continue to get injured. Sometimes kids are 19 and in mixed martial arts or don't understand the rules of society and you are not allowed to defend yourself. Weapons, aggression violence can all be expected as part of the job. That's not even the bad news, the management has contempt for their staff beyond a few, and they will turn on you for the slightest misstep.  Your Supervisor (coordinator) is not permitted to give a professional reference letter. The program director who likely never even met you gives the exact same form letter that just lists duties and the dates you worked. He doesn't often return phone calls and in the vulnerable sectors, many future employers will read these letters as "Code" for being a poor employee, even if you have a stellar track record. It's easy to get trapped in this job, and there are no guidelines against territorial staff members abusing each other.  You can get great kids one week, then extremely dangerous and threatening ones the next.  Management has NO regard for your safety at all beyond token lip service. Think long and hard because if something better comes along you cannot get a glowing review even if it's deserved.   Some coordinators are nice and some are worse than the parents who get their kids taken away from them.  Emotional and psychological abuse are hallmarks of this company and they are supposed to be a protection agency. 

Bad news in innumerable ways.

Blatant favoritism, employees sleeping on the job, being forced to work 20 hours in a row when they have no one to work, forced overtime, breaks and lunch often missed, and a micro managing supervisory team are almost a daily occurrence.  The work shifts change every 2 months so you cannot sign up for any extra-curricular activities in your personal life. Staff turnover extremely high and very unprofessional managers often making negative comments about present and past employees. It feels like you are back in high school with all of the gossip and backstabbing. It is by far the worst place where I have ever worked.  You are not considered to be a government employee which means one higher level manager with a super ego runs the agency...if she doesn't like you, you are toast. Many employees were walked off the job when they showed up to work a shift in front of everyone..no professionalism or etiquette.

Some staff and kids are nice, others mean & petty
Multicultural.new immigrants can work here too🖒
Management does not value their staff, by their words and actions. 
Some micromanage, others bully & intimidate 
 Head man in charge of all shelters, makes it clear, "you don't like working here, there's the door, there will always be someone else who will take your job"
Long hours. 
Has Union. 
Union female president has been known to have favorites. She will side with management instead of helping workers, or tell you to see another rep,  if she doesn't like you.
 If she likes you, she will fight on your behalf and is very nice

The supervisors are the hardest working people I have ever met. There are high standards, but the stakes are high. Excellent training and a chance to work closely with team members. You will meet people from all walks of life. If you like children and adolescents and their parents, and like to write, it is a great job. Be prepared to work hard!

After working for several years as an excellent employee, you are not recognized for this.  Very negative environment and the executive director is inappropriate in the workplace. She makes emotional decisions and is reactionary.  Lots of bullying In the workplace and inability to have appropriate conversations.

I have nothing but nice things to say about ANCR.  Work life balance is good, the work is incredibly interesting and challenging, I enjoy meeting families and the staff and supervisors are great.

Child Welfare can be challenging work, but it is meaningful, and it makes a difference every day. The leadership focuses on excellence, diversity, and making a difference for families. There are lots of young, creative people here. It is a good place to work.

Very stressful depending on staff working with you and the degree of clients life issues   Many clients have severe mental health issues and lack of family supports

Overall, was very good.   It definately gave me the opportunity to learn about all aspects of child welfare in Manitoba.

It is a challenging workplace with many aspects to the job. It will work well for someone who likes to work with people and have flexible hours,
