This position had a high level of confidentiality required in working with upper management and in an environment of unionized staff. Responsible as Assistant to the Administrator and 5-7 Managers needs. 

Constant management meetings required recording of minutes daily, processing and distribution to appropriate members. 

Developed a new filing system as required by the Government changing from paper to an electronic system.   Took 1 yr to develop and a lot of care to assure all documentation from all management had been captured for future reference.

Liaison for staff and HR when they had questions or problems requiring confidentiality.

Received calls of complaint from clients wanting higher level review of their case capturing all of their information without partiality and placement with proper management for followup.  This required diplomacy as well as accuracy of recording the information.

Before retiring stepped down into Social Housing doing clerical recording of clients information into the computer program which deemed eligibility.   Also helped develop policies and procedures for this new division for management.

Left to retire and took on part time work.  There were no part time opportunities in the Social Services.

Grown men, some with 20 - 25 years signority behaving like children.
If you are a mild, flexible person, be prepared to be taken advantage of by almost everyone.
If you are a hard working, punctual, polite, reliable person ( who speaks up & won't be pushed around ) be prepared to be the target of jelousy, envy, petty acusations, back-stabbing, and endless confrontations leading to a stressfull and toxic work environment.
Definite favoritism, croneism along with an antiquated, petty management style makes the Beeton #2 location the worst of all the yards.
Midhurst is possibly the best of all the yards.

 

If you want to  work at the County do not become an Ontario Works caseworker, they pick and and choose who they want to advance, otherwise zero growth opportunities. Contrary to their recruitment ads, they lack diversity, with no visible minority in senior management.  Their management believes they are above everyone else, they always to prove they are in charge. Don't even ask about your co-workers, they are as cold as the winters up in Barrie.  Union is the worst in Ontario, they are all looking for managerial positions, so they wont fight for you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing, there was not one good thing about the county of simcoe

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything, the Customer yelling at your for having to pay when they leave.  Coworkers talking about you to everyone, including supervisors talking about you to your coworkers. And having to watch every move.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Highly toxic, Supervisors and Managers do not help, they support the toxic environment.  The union reps also talk to everyone about everything that is to be kept confidential 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get the site ready for customers and it doesn't stop until 430 when it closes

There were red flags of a toxic work environment before accepting the position. There is a perpetual toxic workplace environment that is supported by upper management so much so that once I was screamed at by a department Director in which I reported to their superior and was told not to go to HR. They mislead you, are not innovative and upper management does not prioritize employees mental health, despite HR policies. If they dont like you they will make your life difficult and make false claims to terminate you. Your colleagues can be great but the people the some of the department management should not be managing staff.

Made many friends, great people to work with. 
Management were very easy to work with.

A typical day at work would be busy communicating with all the Administrators at the Homes for Seniors and keeping all Seniors monies paid and put into the correct spot for them. Dealing with the families of these Seniors. Trying to work out something for the Seniors that just didn't have any family and their expenses. 
Hardest part of the job was saying no to a Senior. 
The most enjoyable part was hearing the relief of a Senior when we solved their issues. 

Again, every day was a learning.

Working with the residents and fixing things they needed repaired. Taking pride in your job

Running back and forth to different sites. Having to use your own car

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was good. But you were on your own

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work, clean, drive, clean, drive, clean hope you don't have to go back to another site for something else or sacrifice cleaning the next day to do repairs

Long hours that were not compensated, promised to be mentored and instead  thrown in the deep end and left to drown. Work place culture is toxic; no positive feedback or encouragement. Management not willing to move forward and desire employees that will not question things or have new ideas. If they do not like you for what ever the reason they will find a way to force you out the door instead of firing you. They encourage their management to use bullying and intimidating tactics to get what they want. High turn over of leadership in certain sectors.

I love this job ! the management and my team are compared to non. I have the ability to share my knowledge and that knowledge is respected and used in all situations. The support given by my supervising nurses is like non I have ever had in my 18 years of working as a PSW. The training I receive is above all that I have ever gotten in all my years in health care. Our job focus is behaviors in LTC, but the training we receive is broad training for all aspects of the residents that we deal with. This is truly my dream job and I am so grateful to have been chosen to join the team.

It’s not a terrible job but some coworkers are arrogant, back stabbing, and condescending. Poor management/site supervisors” (4 of them) are highly overpaid and don’t care about employee conflicts or site problems. If you get hired here it will be an entry level position with 40 people higher than you on the solid waste management seniority list and you will have absolutely no job security. I do not recommend working here.
