My experience at Cox & Palmer was extremely disappointing. From day one, the environment was tense and unwelcoming. The workplace culture is toxic, with cliques, backstabbing, and a general lack of support among coworkers. Instead of fostering teamwork and professionalism, management seems to encourage competition and gossip.

Upper management was unapproachable and unsupportive. Concerns about workload, treatment by colleagues, or toxic behavior were ignored or brushed off. There was little to no recognition for hard work, and morale was consistently low across departments.

If you’re looking for a healthy work-life balance, a respectful atmosphere, or any kind of career growth, this is not the place. I would not recommend Cox & Palmer to anyone seeking a positive or professional work environment.

To start, I had zero job training and was thrown into my role as a LA which was then used against me several times when things were not done how they wanted. Staff are very cliquey - there is a clear hierarchy and if you are not a lawyer your opinion does not matter. Management has clear favorites, HR bullies staff and doesn't take issues seriously. There is not nearly enough staff or resources so everyone is overworked and stressed, with no support leading to everyone being overwhelmed and on edge. Anything you say can and will be used against you - do not have an opinion. Also, new hires make significantly more than long term staff.

A typical day at work shows a very disproportionate work load amongst staff. Top heavy firm. Many lawyers and few staff. Staff are overloaded with multiple lawyers. I learned that you never judge a book by it's cover. Stunning offices with better views but the culture of fear is pervasive and real due to frequent and inexplicable firings and lay offs.  The hardest part of the job is that there is no real training - just video modules to work through in your first week. It's difficult to figure out how to succeed here. You really need prior experience or helpful co-workers to hope to succeed here. The most enjoyable part of the job is that some of the staff are truly lovely people. 

The only thing that matters to this firm is billable hours, full stop. Staff and associates are treated as disposable, and most of the partnership is clued out as to what it’s like. Diversity and inclusion is given lots of lip service but no action. Retention is a huge issue. Compensation is underwhelming for what people have to put up with. It could be a great place to work if they practiced what they preach. Run. Don’t look back.

This firm is an absolute S*** show. Management is poorly run and that is putting it very nicely. Benefits are SUPERB and that is the only nice thing I have to say. I ran into some HR issues while working there and was met with a shoulder shrug and instead of helping me, I was demoted. Support staff is completely disposable, despite being the backbone of any successful law firm. Staff morale only exists if you are in management or are a lawyer.

There are some really great people but cons out weigh the pros. 
It can be a very toxic work environment, not accepting to change and very belitting to others beneath them. Lack of communication between management to staff leads to a lot of frustration. Lots of gossip and bad mouthing others behind back. 
Given how successful the firm and how hard the staff work the pay is not enough. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very friendly and helpful staff. Perks like paid health care and paid pto. Great summer, holiday and other parties. Sets the bar high when it comes to employers. Supportive management.

Work load sometimes busier, but nothing crazy.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Positive, friendly and inclusive

Expectations are extremely high, management is poor. The lawyers are not respectful to assistants or paralegals. Staff morale is extremely low - negative attitudes everywhere and the pay is mediocre. Good work and good employees are not rewarded. Not the place I thought it would be! 



I have been working the last year at C&P and really enjoy it. It's a busy pace but with such a large group, there's always someone to help out when you have questions. They make me feel the work I do matter, and I feel fortunate to have obtain this position and hope that I'll be here for the long haul. C&P feels like a big family and respects each and everyone.
