Eau Claire Distillery Ltd

The management is terrible all around and is like a high school clique. They are very unprofessional and if you're not a manager, you have no hope for raises or advancement and they won't even listen to your opinion. Very underpaid for the amount of work they expect to get done, as they won't hire enough people for the job, or provide the right tools as they're too cheap to buy any. They are also very disorganized, don't listen or pay attention to their employees and won't be around to help if you need it. The head distiller is very rude and does not actually do any training or help out in any way at all. If you do work here don't work too hard, as they will take advantage of you and you still won't ever move up. It can be a very fun place to work however, since most of the other employees are great to work with and help each other out.

There is a lot of dysfunction within this company. Here are the Coles Notes:

- No investment in the onboarding of new employees.
- No company culture.
- Toxic work environment.
- Austere office space with no windows.
- Disorganized hierarchy.
- Unapproachable management team.
- Inaccurate job posting (I ended up being pushed into a position that I was not hired for).
- No value for creativity or the creative process.
- Internal disorganization.
- Averse to positive changes. 
- My manager would often allow me to take the fall for her mistakes, showing a lack of responsibility in the face of confrontation.

Finally, during my first few weeks there, I was told multiple times that the pandemic was a great excuse for them to get rid of unsavoury employees. If you're looking for job security, this is not the place for you as they are willing to fire people at the drop of a hat.

A typical day at work consists of doing multiple jobs, even if they don't belong to you. 

Managers take credit for other coworkers achievements and usually hide in offices together talking about other employees.
If they don't like you, they will quiet fire you or jump through labour board loopholes to terminate you. 
They often promise wage increase and job advancement.

The head management all act like a high school group. If they don't like you, they want you gone. It doesn't matter how hard you work or how good you manage your job responsibilities.  If you know how to paint your nails pretty and pink and put make up on while in office and gossip all day, you should have no issues. 

Don't ever get hurt on the job, they will not keep track of injury incidents and if you happen to need paid time off due to an injury. They will look for ways to terminate you. 

Just an all around awful place. 

I will start with the positives. Everyone (minus management) was amazing and nice. Tips were plentiful. A very chill environment. Negatives were that due to the small company, we were "expected" to work 40+ work hours a week (was never previously discussed though). Most days I worked overtime w/o extra pay.
The kitchen had ZERO ventilation and we had multiple kitchen staff throw up due to the heat, yet management did absolutely nothing about it. Odd dress code so that nobody could wear shorts (not even servers) during 30c+ heatwave. Drinks were never provided for the heat. 
Wouldn't properly manage schedules, had to text to call in sick. 
They hide their staff turnover rate in the seasonal hiring. 

Although the people were great, they put sales in front of the health and safety of staff.


DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
The cancerous manager for the taste room is tremendously under qualified to be there. Way too much  on her plate and she can't organize her time properly and takes it out on her staff. A severe lack of communication keeps you in the dark about many things.
Tip out got worse and worse every 2 weeks, when and if you get them [NEVER ON TIME, with a "so what" attitude when asked about it]. They also take money from the tip pool for staff "events" but don't do anythlng except say they want to do something. 
Again, don't waste your time, effort and especially gas at this place, it'll end up costing you too much to work there
If they cut the cancer out, they might be ok. 
It is a shame as they have great products tho

I had quite a few job titles from brand ambassador to product line and delivery. As an ambassador I would travel to different liquor store events to showcase the quality and achievement of the renowned local distillery and engage with new and existing customers, local business owners and industry experts.

It was fine. Good people. The work varied. Felt taken advantage of and not that I made a difference 
Lofty dreams that never came to fruition. 
More focused on the human machine than the humans. 
Not much else to say other than that

Fast times around 12:00 to 5:00pm.
Lots of opportunity.
I learned bartending skills and mixology was the most fun.
Setting up for events.
Working on the bottling line was also fun.
Hardest part is the seasonal availability.

pretty awful place to work, lack of management skills from a team of managers that only seem to maintain their positions due to friendships. Minimal job security, constant lay offs and turn around. Hire and Fire mentality.

Great summer job. Pay was competitive, scheduling was fair, great co-workers, and there is the opportunity to work off-site at tasting events around Calgary (which is great).
