Was excited to get hired on, but soon found out how terrible of a place this is too work. Office politics is out of control here....if a rumor isn't started by 11 then start one policy is in effect and is completely unprofessional. Management is seniority based and is clueless,  they walk around with chest pumped out like they are something special. I 
wouldn't hire them to stock shelves at the dollar store. They have a old guys club mentality and bully anyone that is different. They express the importance of team work but everyone back stabs and throws each other under the bus, instead of fixing a problem they brush it under the rug. No accountability for anything. Time theft and material theft is also out of control, employees take 1+ hour coffee breaks 1+ hour lunches and if you try to be honest and take shorter you get bullied or rumors spread about you. Also hours are 7-3:30 but people leave when ever they want after lunch it seems...the joke was "got to go to the suppliers"
Also they pay a vehicle allowance for employees which is quite generous, for trades to transport tools and materials people abuse that as well by car pooling and not carrying tools or supplies. It is such a mess. As a tax payer it really bothers me to know that our money is being spent this way. They also don't like smart, knowledgeable trades they seem to like the lazy, unorganized, unskilled but best brownnosers  in the game. Oh and if you get a job here in the maintenance building be prepared to gain weight and become lazy.

I work independently running the mailroom and loading dock sorting incoming interoffice mail from over 200 locations in the city. I process all incoming and outgoing postal mail. Make deliveries to 30+ departments in a 4 story building. I accept, log in and distribute various items ranging from envelopes to dangerous goods.I also lift heavy boxes and such on daily basis.

I enjoy this position as I can freely move about the building interacting with co-workers. It also allows me to lend a helping hand to others when needed. 

Although the job is generally repetitive in nature, the workload itself can vary day to day and same goes with the difficulty depending on the nature of the deliveries. 

At times work policies and procedures change, so must my work habits and I am quick to adapt to all changes. 

I am allowed to make decisions regarding critical deliveries and finding solutions to various problems that arise.

The most difficult aspect of my job is not being able to complete my work as I am required to do 2 other positions along with my own. At times this can become very stressful.

Children and music are two of my biggest passions in life, and I was fortunate to indulge both of these in my career with Edmonton Public Schools.  The most enjoyable aspect of my job was relationships--with my colleagues, parents of my students, and of course, the children themselves.  My principal was responsive, flexible and understanding, and my fellow teachers and I supported each other daily, in lunchroom conversations where we shared our personal and professional woes and triumphs.  The hardest part of my job was trying to provide meaningful learning experiences for 'regular' students as well as those with behavioural challenges, learning disabilities, and special needs, in the inclusive classroom.  I learned tremendously every year, about child development, modes of learning, how to be stern with the group and gentle with the individual, about trauma, kindness, acceptance, and relationships.  Teaching is not the sort of occupation a person can leave behind, when it's time to go home for supper!  My work with Edmonton Public Schools has truly shaped my identity, and has played a major role in forming the person that I am today.

A typical day for the position of a developer would involve programming tasks of varying nature based on the requirements from a client or another department.  Management works on a hierarchy of individuals ranging from the junior to the seniors, followed by supervisor and eventually up to department lead.

During my time as a programmer I learned how to use Oracle applications and used PL/SQL extensively, although other employees would have different tasks such as being a DBA or coding in ColdFusion.  Everyone here has a good positive vibe and are always friendly to each other.  

However, workflow is somewhat slow given the small tasks that I am given, and the result of me leaving employement at this location, as my contract is expiring and am not being renewed due to a lack of workflow.  No other contractors in programming at this location are staying either for the same reason.

A typical day would be to hope to get a call for an assignment, then drive over the school and assume my role. It has been wonderful thus far and I have gotten exposed to many different roles and tasks. Most schools I go to, there are people willing to share their knowledge with me and I take that to the next school. 

I would say the reality is that supply people do get picked last in terms of being able to actually apply on permanent positions. Also, while visiting some schools, it is clear that not all persons understand that supply people learn as they go and can sometimes be mean. I think it would be fair if supply people were able to take the necessary training before going on assignment then looking incompetent. I hope I get to continue working with EPSB and make a career out of this.

Go to different schools under Edmonton Public Schools is fun. Sometimes I can go to one schools in the morning, and go to a different school in the afternoon, hurrying on the road, eating quickly. Having chances to know a lot of schools, including its buildings, layout, staff, principals, of course, and the students.
When I reach the school, I usually have the lesson plan prepared by the regular teacher ready for me on his/her table. I will try do my best to realize the plan. I will try best to keep the class in good order, explain the assignments to students, encourage students to complete assignments. I sub for teachers in nearly all subjects and feel proud that I have good knowledge in doing this work.

At Metro Continuing education I learnt how to deal with people from all walks of life. This college was primarily used for the ESL programs and general interest courses. It was also for adult students wanted to upgrade their skills. 

My coworkers were wonderful people, I worked with approximately 20 diverse women. The hardest part of my job was to keep ahead of the work required, I was responsible for preparing most of the course material for upcoming classes so it was imperative to be organized. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was that I found it rewarding and challenging, It was a fantastic job. I left this job as I moved to BC for family reasons.

It may be for an hour a day, but there is so much activity in the small, bright minds of the kids. Sure I have to have eyes in the back of my head, but I get paid for it.
What I learned from working for this long with this school, is more confidence in my abilities as an individual. 
Management is very cool, kind, patient, and obviously loves her job, because it was so easy to transition to that type of work.
Co-workers are kind and communicative women, which is much needed in this work environment.
Hardest part of the job is managing the tougher crowd. They don't all make the best decisions, but we work to smooth it over.
Most enjoyable part is the kids and how vibrant they truly are. The bright smiles, kindnesses, and so smart.

I worked as a student helper/caterer for multiple years and learned a ton of useful skills with my time there. I typically helped a baker doing an assortment of pastry and deserts. I learned to use a sheeter/roller, stand-up and counter mixers as well as convection ovens and industrial grills/stoves. The management was always a pleasure to work under and was very adaptable to my needs as a student. They always made me feel welcome and always took the time to teach. The hardest part of the job was getting there early enough(7am) to help with buns which was my favorite part because I enjoy learning and manipulating dough and yeast products.

Productive job if you enjoy kids. No day is the same. Nice to have the same days off as your own kids. The hardest part of the job is saying good-bye in June. The most enjoyable part is those lightbulb moments. when a child understands a concept and his face just beams. It lights up my world. A typical day at work will depend on your student situation. If you are responsible for a special needs child, Your day will look way different then if you are in a gr. 8 classroom. work place culture can prove to be difficult if cliques are allowed to build. Agreat leader principal can nip that in the bud quite easily.
