Little to no formal training. 
People having outbursts almost regularly. 
People using unprofessional and borderline antagonistic speech almost constantly. 
Drivers and dispatchers constantly crawling up your back and half the time you can't blame them. 
People being snide, rude, bigoted, and hurtful almost constantly and because that's "how they are", it's accepted. 
There's waves of massive turnover fairly regularly. If you choose to stay, for some reason, though, the job security is nice, as a result. 
Nearly everywhere in the industry pays better and you don't get vision care as part of your benefits and if you require something to make your work easier because of physical problems, expect resistance. 
People don't grasp anything out of their scope so if you need help with anything on your desk and people who normally work it aren't available or are being uncooperative, good luck. 

This isn't even getting into personal feelings regarding this place.

Farrow is a well established privately owned Canadian broker with an incredible company culture. The leadership team is flexible and aware of the safety concerns surrounding the pandemic and the impact it has had on individuals over the last couple of years, supporting both their clients and staff needs during these difficult times.

Typical work day involves assisting importers with their goods across Canadian borders. General role activities include data entry, supporting clients and drivers with issues over email/phone support and reviewing entry data to remain in compliance with Government regulations. Staff (including team leaders and managers) are supportive, engaged with their team members and are constantly looking to improve themselves and their colleagues.

Company culture is fantastic and managers approach situations openly and thoughtfully. Farrow does offer training and advancement within the organization upon completion of industry courses and invests back into its employees.

Customs, Freight Forwarding and Logistics are a complex and quintessential part of the modern world. It is however a challenging industry with a lot of government regulations that can be difficult to navigate. With that being said, Farrow is a flat organisation in terms of reporting structure. So there is a high level of engagement from both the operational managers and executive team in troubleshooting and supporting team members through challenging situations. 

If you want to grow in this industry Farrow has incredible training and growth paths for staff whether they wish to remain in Operations, go into Sales or support client relationships. There is opportunity throughout. The company culture is also fantastic!

Best place if you are looking to be OVERWORKED, UNDERPAID, and not appreciated whatsoever.  No room for advancement.  Can't open windows for fresh air, would get nosebleeds, as did others.  Some employees would take very long lunches, even sleep at their desk and got away with it.  Almost everyone I worked with here were literally searching job banks on the job to get out!  My pathetic raise (pennies) came months late.  I learned enough to get a similar job with a fantastic company that pays their employees what they are worth and treat us well.  Farrow has a revolving door.  With such intensive training, one might think they would want to hold on to great employees instead of constantly training new ones.  Do yourself a favour and don't waste your time.  They must know the organization that chooses "best managed company" of the year because they certainly are NOT!

Absolutely not a family environment.  Managers provide very little leadership and absolutely show favoritism.  Half the time they were not aware of what went on during the other shifts.  If you are not in the "favorite" category, do not hold any hopes of any advancement.  Pay is an absolute disgrace (and the owners should be embarrased) for the level of responsibilty put on you and were always understaffed so do expect to be yelled at on the phone everyday by upser Drivers.  Annual raises were an insult at 10 to 15 cents/hour and usually took a month or more to show on your paycheck.  The hard workers were expected to always do more to pick up the slack for the slackers, who always got away with it.
There were benefits but were what I call "barely there" benefits.
They liked to prorate vacation time, so even after a year you still might not have a full 2 weeks depending on when you started.

Farrow downtown Edmonton has  a culture marred by family favoritism and double standards, which undermines fair treatment and employee morale. Leadership is inconsistent, lacking essential skills to guide the team effectively, which leaves employees feeling unsupported and often confused by unclear decisions. Communication gaps across departments exacerbate the issues, with critical updates frequently delayed or missed, leading to inefficiencies. Staff retention is notably low, as many employees feel unmotivated by the biased culture and lack of growth opportunities, resulting in a constant cycle of hiring to fill vacancies. Overall, these factors create a disappointing work environment that struggles to retain talent and inspire productivity.

Endless system issues.
High turnover - constantly working with new and inexperienced staff leads to a lot of messes to be cleaned up.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In general it's great! People are friendly and help each other openly. Lots of diversity and most people are happy to be there and  get to work.

It was more chill the first few years I worked there. It has been getting less pleasant since the Kuehne Nagel take over.

A lot of emailing. Occasional phone calls.

If you want to work for a company that loves lazy people but under appreciates hard workers, this is the place for you!
I have seen people fall asleep on the job for hours, people taking longer breaks and lunches, people swearing constantly... you name it.
If you are a hard worker don’t expect to get raises or move up in the company. They will find ways to bring you down as time goes on.
You May start and think it’s a great place to work but once you work there a bit and see how people act in the office, you will wish you never started here. The sad thing is HR has no clue what goes on at the windsor office because everything is so secretive, if only they knew how lazy half the staff really is. 
Benefits are good for the most part, no vision tho

This company and especially the KW office is a nightmare. The office is filled with emotional vampires, favouritism, bulling and lack of management. There have been several complaints of harassment and bulling. Nothing has been done by management or HR. If you are a hard worker you will be punished and over worked while others are free to do nothing. Management is terrible. They are disorganised, lack leadership skills and simply don't care.

The company itself if crumbling. The owners only care about how much money they are making. They are constantly showing off there expensive cars and boats. One of the owners actually built an expensive garage on company property. 

This company and any jobs they post should be avoided.

It’s been a pleasure working at Farrow. I’ve had the opportunity to work in multiple positions, under a variety of leaders and develop a unique skill set that will be useful throughout my career. I started in brokerage, but have also worked in other areas. When I’m ready for the next step in my career, my past managers have supported me, and mentored me to get to that next level.
Family owned business that makes you feel included. The company is small enough for you to get the proper attention you deserve, but large enough to find growth opportunities if you’re willing to work hard, be engaged, and show you’re a leader. Overall, a solid company, a great family and hoping to continue my career here.
